ORAS UU SharkNado: A UU Balance RMT

Hey, guys, I'm Cactrune and this is my latest RMT. This time, the focal point is Mega Sharpedo, which I decided to build a team around after seeing a bunch of people talking about its merits in the UU Viability Ranking Thread. The team uses wallbreakers to beat stall and walls to survive offense, and they work in tandem to weaken the opposing team enough to where Sharpedo can come in and clean up. Sometimes, the situation is a lot more complicated than that, but I feel as though I've created an interesting team that works fairly well. So far, I've peaked at about 1520, but I feel like I could go farther if I tinkered with the movesets a bit more.

The Team:

Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Destiny Bond
- Crunch
- Protect

I had never actually tried using Sharpedo in any serious capacity until I made this team, and so far it hasn't disappointed. Its primary role here is being fast enough to steamroll offensive teams while also being strong enough to crush weakened walls. The icing on the cake is its bulk, which allows it to survive even Super-Effective hits and KO in return. Destiny Bond seems like an unorthodox move on Sharpedo, but I tried Ice Fang and found it kind of underwhelming, because it can't even KO most of the Grass-types that it targets without a fair amount of prior damage. I instead opt to remove those Grass mons earlier and surprise stuff late-game with DBond. If I see something that I know that I can't OHKO and I still have 2-3 mons left (like Sash Zam), I just Destiny Bond. it's pretty great.

Cresselia @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonlight
- Psychic
- Ice Beam
- Thunder Wave

Cresselia is a rising star in UU, and for good reason; it's bulky set is incredible for taking on most of UU's top threats, and it can paralyze many more on the switch. Ice Beam is on this set primarily for 2HKOing most variants of Salamence while they fail to OHKO Cress with anything. Cresselia also takes on most Fighting-types (bar Megahorn Heracross) thanks to its incredible bulk, which helps Sharpedo in the long run. I've thought about making Cresselia a Calm Mind variant, which would give me another late-game sweeper, but the defensive set is more effective on my team.

Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 228 Def / 24 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Aromatherapy
- Protect
- Moonblast

Florges provides resistances to Dark-types and Bug-types, giving it incredible synergy with Cresselia. However, its primary role here is keeping the team healthy while walling some of the metagame in the process. Like Cresselia, it's capable of using its incredible bulk to live a huge number of hits, making it a valuable asset to the team.

Heracross @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn
- Facade
- Close Combat
- Knock Off

Heracross was added to this team to handle Steel-types and bulky Waters, both of which trouble Sharpedo. I could run a Choice Band set here, but I haven't really tried Toxic Orb before and the ability to use Facade to nail Fairies is very handy. I could also make this a Swords Dance Heracross by removing Megahorn so that I could have another win condition, which is something that I might do later on.

Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Defog
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

Though it shares two major weaknesses with Sharpedo, Empoleon works incredibly well with Cresselia and Florges, and it can both set hazards and remove them. Basically, it was added to this team to have a more dedicated special wall and overall utility mon. It can also serve as a great answer to some very dangerous sweepers, notably CroCune and CurseLax.

Hydreigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 56 Atk / 200 SpA / 252 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Superpower
- Iron Tail/Roost

For lack of a better idea, I decided to put a special wallbreaker on the team, primarily because my main attackers were physical. I ended up picking LO Hydreigon, because its ability to hit on both sides of the spectrum and force a lot of switches makes it very hard to handle. It can also be an emergency counter to stuff like Lucario and Absol, who think that they can switch in on a Dark Pulse to nab a boost. Another thing is that I'm not sure whether or not to run Iron Tail or Roost. The latter seems like the better option because Iron Tail is really mediocre anyway, but I don't have many answers to Fairies regardless.

So far, I think this is the RMT that I'm most proud of. It's got a really solid defensive core that I enjoy playing with, and it showcases some of UU's biggest threats at the same time. I've gotten a lot of success with it, but I want your input so that I can build a better team and keep getting better at competitive battling in general. Thanks for reading this.

Have you tried Zen Headbutt over Destiny Bond on Mega Sharpedo. Zen Headbutt helps with your Fighting Weakness because Zen Headbutt will OHKOs Infernape and I'll get you calcs when I'm on a computer next.

I don't really need Zen Headbutt, because ideally, by the time Sharpedo gets on the field, Florges and Cresselia will have already handled the opponent's fighters. It's kind of pointless to run Zen Headbutt when I already have two very strong answers to Fighters.
