ORAS LC My first LittleCup Team... Please Rate!

Hello Guys!

And welcome to my second RMT at Smogon. This time I built a LC Team, and it is my first try, so there may be many weaknesses that I have not yet discovered. For that, I am posting it, so please rate and improve!

dratini.gif

Dratini @ Life Orb
Ability: Shed Skin
Level: 5
EVs: 244 Atk / 36 SpD / 196 Spe
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 HP
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Extreme Speed
- Iron Tail

First of all, Dratini, which this Team is built around. We have a solid Dragon Dancer with life orb, extremespeed for priority and to let it revengekill andand iron tail for fairy coverage. The EVs are maxing the attack and speed stat. 0 HP IVs for minimum LO recoil.

dwebble.gif

Dwebble @ Berry Juice
Ability: Sturdy
Level: 5
EVs: 36 Atk / 236 Def / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Knock Off
- Counter

Next, Dwebble as a hazard support with spikes and rocks. It is quite fast, so thanks to sturdy and berry juice it can often set up three layers of hazerds or more. Knock Off is its only attacking move to hit ghosts and knock off items to make it easier for Dratini to sweep. Counter is for KOing threats like Pawniard and Mienfoo.

larvesta.gif

Larvesta @ Eviolite
Ability: Flame Body
Level: 5
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 76 HP / 236 Atk / 156 Def / 36 Spe
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Flare Blitz
- Morning Sun
- Will-O-Wisp

Larvesta is an allround pokemon and it is awesome! It can act as a tank with WoW and morning sun as well as flare blitz everything for a solid damage even if resisted. U-Turn is of course for momentum and as a second STAB.

pumpkaboo-super.gif

Pumpkaboo-Super @ Eviolite
Ability: Frisk
Level: 5
EVs: 204 HP / 196 Def / 76 SpD / 28 Spe
Careful Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Synthesis
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak

Pumpkaboo is for spinblocking since Dwebble goes down while setting hazards up most of the time and cannot set them up again. It also counters Chinchou and brings WoW-Support. Bullet Seed is to ignore Subs and against ShellSmash-Tirtouga. Shadow Sneak brings STAB and Priority.

kabuto.gif

Kabuto @ Eviolite
Ability: Battle Armor
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 116 Atk / 36 Def / 76 SpD / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Rock Slide
- Aqua Jet

Kabuto is the spinner who is crucial for keeping Larvesta alive. Knock Off supports sweeps from either Dratini or Aron, while Aqua Jet gives a nice priority. Rock Slide is a secondary STAB move also capable of making the target flinch.

aron.gif

Aron @ Berry Juice
Ability: Rock Head
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 116 SpD / 116 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rock Polish
- Head Smash
- Iron Head
- Earthquake

Aron is a setup sweeper with Rock Polish which doubles its speed. Head Smash is its primary STAB move that has no recoil thanks to Rock Head. Iron Head is the Secondary STAB and against Fairies. EQ is for Pseudo-EdgeQuake Coverage. Aron is my main counter for fairies such as Spritzee.

Hello there, that's a pretty cool team you've built. However, it's dangerously close to being locked as it lacks 3 lines of description, so I'd write a tad more.

Anyway, certain pokemon, such as Chinchou and Spritzee are rather troublesome to your team. To fix this I have some suggestions.

First, I'll suggest Counter over Knock Off on Dwebble as otherwise, Timburr can simply set up on you from turn 1 and sweep your team. Counter in general helps you versus Fighting types and can also be used vs Pawniard for the ability to KO turn 1 as well. Not really too much to say here.

Dwebble @ Berry Juice
Ability: Sturdy
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Rock Blast
- Counter

Next, adding Foongus over Dratini helps your team deal with Timburr while also adding status, a check to Stone Edge Mienfoo, Spritzee and helps force switches. Dratini provided a fair check to Fletchling, but you were still weak to Fletchling with it. Foongus at least has a chance to survive and beat it from full and with Eviolite. Dual Status also has fair more utility for your team than anything Dratini could do, save revenging Fletchling after 2 Rocks switchins. Plus Regen makes this mushroom stick around for far longer than anyone would like.

Foongus @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 5
EVs: 124 HP / 156 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
- Stun Spore
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb

Scarf Gastly is a nice idea, as it lures in Abra who hopes to revenge kill as well as heavily damages Fairy types and weakens other checks to your sweeper. However, Dazzling Gleam should become Hidden Power Fighting or Hidden Power Ground. Fighting coverage is used to nail Ferroseed and Pawniard namely, while Ground coverage messes up Stunky. Sub is also an option in this slot, but Tricking on a Sucker Punch forces you to switch out anyway, and is useless on Scarf Gastly anyway.

Shiny: Yes
EVs: 200 SpA / 80 SpD / 200 Spe
Timid Nature

- Hidden Power [Fighting] / Hidden Power [Ground]
- Trick

Lastly, I'm going to suggest Kabuto over Staryu. Not only does this maintain the FGW core, it adds an offensive Fletchling Check as well as some priority of your own. However, sadly Kabuto doesn't have the longevity of Staryu but it does keep up momentum better than Staryu does. Play safely with it, and you'll see how this rewards your team.

Hi there, jurassicscream!

This is a good team you have here for a first try, but there are a few weaknesses it has that I'd like to patch up for you. Most importantly, the team is weak to Drilbur, Chinchou, and Fletchling. Additionally, it is risky to try and keep your Spikes down for Scraggy by using Scarf Gastly as a spinblocker, due to its extreme frailty, and Scraggy is unable to sweep past Spritzee otherwise unless it somehow attains a lot of free boosts (expecting to get them from Moxie isn't a sound idea if the opponent has Spritzee in the first place, and Cottonee can Encore the setup). I'll go on with my suggestions and explain as I go. :)

Archen @ Berry Juice
Level: 5
Ability: Defeatist
EVs: 76 HP / 180 Atk / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Slide
- Acrobatics
- Earthquake
- U-turn / Knock Off / Roost

My first suggestion is replacing Dratini with Archen. In the Little Cup metagame at large, Dratini is honestly quite lackluster despite its wide movepool and access to setup and strong +2 priority in Extreme Speed, due to its meager stats, lack of recovery, and the prominence of defensive Fairy-types such as Spritzee and Snubbull. By exchanging it with Archen, the team gains a backbone against Fletchling and a pool of coverage that hits many important threats for hard super effective damage. EdgeQuake coverage combined with Acrobatics (which becomes stronger after consuming Berry Juice) makes it a serious threat, though it must still be handled with care. The fourth moveslot depends on what you want; U-turn helps keep up momentum when forcing switches against the likes of Fletchling, Knock Off helps Scraggy sweep more easily by softening up opposing teams, and Roost is there if you want Archen to stick around longer or pull itself out of Defeatist range after Berry Juice has already been used. No matter what you choose, this is a change for the better.

Pumpkaboo-Super @ Eviolite
Level: 5
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 204 HP / 36 Def / 236 SpD / 28 Spe
Careful Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Synthesis
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak

My second suggestion is replacing Gastly with Pumpkaboo-Super. While this will cause your team to lose some offensive power, what you gain in the ability to reliably beat all the common users of Rapid Spin and prevent them from removing your hazards more than makes up for that. This thing switches into Drilbur and Staryu without a sweat, and it also soft-checks Chinchou for the team and has its own recovery in Synthesis. Will-O-Wisp additionally cripples physical attackers like Mienfoo, which will want to stay in to Knock Off Pumpkaboo's Eviolite. Bullet Seed takes care of Shell Smashers and comes particularly in handy against Tirtouga.

scraggy.gif

Scraggy @ Eviolite
Ability: Moxie -> Shed Skin
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 156 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpD / 212 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Knock Off
- Drain Punch
- Poison Jab

I recommend giving Scraggy Shed Skin over Moxie, simply because a stray burn or paralysis status can completely halt its sweep otherwise, and Thunder Wave and Scald are everywhere. Moxie boosts require successful KOs,Additionally, while I like your spread and that Jolly nature allows more bulk to be added, you might consider Adamant with 36 HP / 236 Atk / 212 Spe for more raw power when it's time to sweep. You still outspeed everything in the unboosted tier after Dragon Dance, and the boost in power while running 18 Attack is noticeable, especially after boosts and is important in the case of Poison Jab when used against Spritzee.

Just be sure that Spritzee's Eviolite is removed by Knock Off before you try to take it down, and use Pumpkaboo to the fullest so that your Spikes remain intact, assuring Scraggy's success. Personally, I'd keep Staryu as your spinner so that it can switch into Drilbur and other common hazard setters while also being able to heal off damage with Recover.

This concludes my rate! I wish you luck and success with your team! :)

Edit: I also missed that you wanted to build around Dratini and I was eager to replace it because of how outclassed it is, but if you want to use that as your main sweeper, you could simply try out my other changes but swap out Scraggy for Archen instead of Dratini. :)

Not to be rude guys, but the guy said he was trying to build the team around Dratini, so I don't think replacing it with other things is the way to go. Your rates are decent though besides that.

Somewhere within my head, I messed up what your team was based upon and got it was based around Scraggy. I really messed up here, and I'm sorry. But, I can still suggest some changes that make a Dratini centric team rather decent.

The first of these is a change to Dratini's moveset; a Dragon Dance sweeper set makes much more sense in the context of your team, especially considering your hazard stack ideals. DD + Life Orb makes it hit incredibly hard, with Extreme Speed being able to donk Fletchling for good damage at +1. Outrage in unfortunately its best STAB, but of course this hits hard. Fire Blast over Iron Tail is due to how team support can deal with Fairy types, and it doesn't muscle pass Snubbull anyhow. You may still like Iron Tail though, as Steel types are more or less dealt with.

Level: 5
EVs: 244 Atk / 36 SpD / 196 Spe
Adamant Nature

- Extreme Speed
- Fire Blast

Next I still stand by my suggestion of Counter Dwebble. But because of the choice of Dwebble, you will want a better spin blocker. Gastly should be switch for Pumpkaboo-Super because of this. Pumpkaboo adds aid Staryu's efforts in checking ground types, such as Drilbur, as well as adding burn support and a hard counter to Chinchou. Frisk is also a generally useful ability, as it helps with scouting out items on random pokemon, and is especially useful versus Chinchou especially, as you can scout its item, and in turn move sets. Priority is also of course awesome.
710.png

Pumpkaboo-Super @ Eviolite
Ability: Frisk
Level: 5
EVs: 204 HP / 196 Def / 76 SpD / 28 Spe
Careful Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Synthesis
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak

Now, I my final suggestion is running Rock Polish Aron over Scraggy. While Scraggy can lure in and weaken Fairy types for Dratini, it open up you team to Fletchling weaknesses and, of course, Fairy weaknesses. This is a weird suggestion though, I know, but it is a great switchin to Spritzee and Fletchling and can weaken or outright sweep teams for Dratini. A base 150 STAB is always wanted on teams, especially considering it has no downsides on Aron besides its accuracy. Head Smash + Iron Head + earthquake is great coverage too.

Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 116 SpD / 116 Spe

- Iron Head
- Earthquake
Again, sorry about my original rate; I did make a rather large mistake. Still,

Cheers!

Wow, thanks for all of your support, I didn't expect such fast answers :)
Don't be sorry for wanting to replace Dratini, I assume you are experienced with the LC tier and Dratini isn't that great, so your first thought was to replace it and that i could not possibly build my team around it^^
However, i would like to keep it, but I will incur your suggestions, namely Counter over Knock off on Dwebble, as well as Pumpkaboo over Gastly and Aron over Scraggy.
However, I don't like the idea of not having a scarfer and having two setup mons. Maybe this isn't a big issue, but it lets me doubt. What do you think? I will maintain on my first Dratini set until i get some more opinions by you guys.
Thanks again for rating!

Btw, can somebody please tell me the code for implementing the pokemon sprites? :)

Certainly. :)

A Choice Scarf user isn't mandatory for a good Little Cup team. I hardly use them myself.

Here is an alphabetized index for the XY sprites. You can add them here by copying a specific image from there and pasting into the post, or you can copy the web address for one and embed it here with the Media button in the post editor.

Hey there jurassicscream and welcome to LC, we hope that you stick around and enjoy the meta :). Anyways, I must say that you did a decent job building this team around a Pokémon that is considered weak and even unviable by some people which is Dratini and keep in mind that even if you're building your team around any mon that may seem weak that mon will be able to function really well if it has the right team support and this applies to Dratini and this team too so you better stick to it and just change its teammates to help it do its job well.

First of all I must say that I agree with some of Fiend Hound's suggestions (the second ones) and especially the ones about Dragon Dance Dratini over your current mixed set which is overall better and lets Dratini work as a good late game sweeper/cleaner, you can use Axew over Dratini for this if you want given how Axew has a better Attack stat but Dratini also has Extremespeed which can be really useful in various situations, you might also consider Iron Tail over Fire Blast but you have enough answers for Ferroseed and Fairy-types (well not yet but I'll talk about those later) so this last move will be just about flavor.

Also I agree on using Counter on Dwebble however I must say that it must be used over Rock Blast because Knock Off is a move that will be appreciated more on it cuz it helps you removing some items such as Eviolites which will help Dratini late-game sweep/clean, also consider using an EV spread of 236 Def / 236 Spe and a Jolly nature over you current spread, this lets it live a bunch of attacks such as always living a Knock Off+Drain Punch from offensive Mienfoo and hit it back with Counter, it also has other uses that are kinda trivial tbh and I've proven my point enough.

I agree also on the Pumpkaboo-Super over Gastly since Pumpkaboo is a better spinblocker than Gastly and lets you check if not counter Drilbur and other pisky Water-types which are annoying for this team.

Also, consider using Kabuto over Staryu as a spinner which was stated by Fiend in his first rate and idk why he didn't suggest it again.. Well Kabuto lets you spin away hazards while also dealing with the problematic-for-this-team Fletchling and also has Aqua Jet which can be useful in various situations as well as providing Knock Off support to the team, however it doesn't have Staryu's nice typing, recovery, or speed but I guarantee this team will benefit more from using Kabuto over Staryu, you can copy Fiend's set but I recommend Jolly over Adamant.

Lastly I will be suggesting Scarf Pawniard over Scraggy, this lets you deal with Fairy-types, have Knock Off support, Pursuit trap the problematic Gastly and Abra, and gives you the scarfer that you want, and it's also a nice Fletchling check, you can use Stunky over Pawniard as Stunky does all of that bar checking Fletchling however I think you want a scarfer so you'll want to stick with Pawniard, here is my suggested set:
pawniard.gif

Pawniard @ Choice Scarf
Level: 5
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpD / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Brick Break
- Pursuit
Anyways that's all I have to say, nice team and I hope I helped! n_n

Also, this is the link for shiny sprites and this is a link for sprites from all gens and you can also pick if you want a shiny or not :)

Hi Yagura, and thanks for your rate, I appreciate it.
So far, Rock Blast on Dwebble did its job and there was no situation where I wanted to use Knock Off. Either way, I will replace it since I assume that I will encounter these situations in the future.
In addition, I will change Dratinis set to the Dragon Dancer with Iron Tail, just because I want to take advantage of the attack boost and I do not want my sweep to be stopped by fairies. Of course I now have to get rid of Ferroseed and other Steel types first.
I will replace Staryu with Kabuto as well, since you explained your point quite well and I understand that it will most likely be better.
For the last slot, I would like to keep Aron for the beginning, even though it hasn't put so much work in recently. However I am still open for suggestions over Aron. Is Pawniard one of these? And what are its advantages compared to Aron?

Thanks again for rating and for the links as well! :)

I'm glad I could help! About the Aron suggestion it was so that you can have a truly dedicated Fletchling counter than can force it out and take the opportunity to clean during late game, however if you use Kabuto over Staryu you'll have another counter for it which isn't much needed, so I went with Scarf Pawniard to be able to trap the problematic Abra and Gastly which can be a pain to deal with for your team and you also wanted a scarfer so yea (you can still use Stunky over it if you don't need a scarfer anymore), however you can still use Aron and have some nice results, just make sure you set up with it in the right timing, good luck :]
