Hey there! Check out my dog and his team, and tell me what i can improve with! This time I decided to do a team-building process to show you how I came to the team i did - then I'll explain it!
This team hasnt actually been doing the best, but it has some really good days, please help me figure out what I could do with it to make it better!
The team at a glance:
I started off with just my man Arcanine here. I wanted to build a team around him, considering it is my favourite pokemon. I liked the way he has decent stats all-around, and how he can run a mixed or special or physical set - Which is what I went for. I'd never built a team around him , so I wanted to try.
==========================================================
So - time to create my core. Arcanine is weak to Fire, Rock, and Ground. So, who else but Tangrowth? This thing makes a great physical wall, and with access to Knock Off, and Leech Seed, its just perfect. It doesn't resist Rock - But considering most powerful common rock moves are physical (Stone Edge, Rock Slide), thats not too much of a problem.
==========================================================
So, time for a special wall, and hey- a spinner would be great. I had to go with Tentacruel. 2 Of its 3 weaknesses are covered by Tangrowth. It covers 3 of the 4 weaknesses on my Tangrowth, so they cover each-others weaknesses well and work pretty well together as the defensive core of my team.
==========================================================
I noticed here 2 things - I didn't have a special sweeper, and I didn't have a mega. Now, though a mega isn't necessary, I feel like a team isn't complete without one, so I ended up going with Ampharos. I liked its design, and like some of the other pokemon on this team, I'd never used it before. It makes for a pretty bulky special sweeper, and all of its weaknesses are covered on this team! It also creates a reliable switch it for flying types that might come up against Tangrowth.
==========================================================
So, can you see what I see? A psychic weakness on Tentacruel that isn't covered. Well - What better than an immunity. Yes, its another Rock weakness, but I already have my defensive core to wall rocks. All of his weaknesses are covered somewhere on the team. So... he was just perfect! (Also he provides great coverage for the team).
==========================================================
And heres the final team. I had some trouble picking it but I ended up with Hippowdon. He's good because he provides a solid counter for rock. Also, EQ is always good to have on a team - so he works well with that, and basically provides great coverage for the team.
Time to go through the team:
Otto (Arcanine) @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Flare Blitz
- Wild Charge
- Extreme Speed
So, like I said, I chose Arcanine because he's just such a beast of a pokemon, and I hate that people dont use him enough, (Though he is used a fair bit in UU). His job is to come in, pack an unexpected punch even on pokemon that resist his flare blitz, then extreme speed them right out to finish them off. I wouldn't call him a sweeper, but not a revenge killer either... He's just... doing his own thing. He's got Life Orb to add to the punch that he packs, Intimidate to cripple physical sweepers. He's EVs are obvious, so is his nature. I pack the usual set on Otto - Close Combat for power and those rock types, Flare Blitz for unbelievable power and STAB, Wild Charge to take out Normal types, and Extreme speed for good power and amazing priority (+2)
ShallNotPass! (Ampharos-Mega) @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static -> Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Power Gem
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Dragon Pulse
YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!! Yup, heres Gandalf the Mega-Ampharos, but I just had to give him that name to make him more... intimidating. I chose him because I'd never used him and he looks like an amazing special sweeper who can live a few crazy hits. His job is to come in, and lets just say do some work. He's got an EV set to create a special attacker who can live a few hits which makes up for his terrible speed. Most of Ampharos's moves are for coverage, with HP Grass to cover ground types really well, which I didnt have originally, but after running into some annoying Hippowdons I put on here.
Repunnzel (Tangrowth) @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk
Relaxed Nature
- Protect
- Leech Seed
- Knock Off
- Toxic
Tangrowth covers my attackers really well. Thats really the only reason I chose him, when a threatening physical attacker comes out, his job is to come in, wall them, set up the leech seed, toxic, and knock off whatever item they have, then just wall them out. He's got Regenerator because thats just an amazing ability, Relaxed because he's not out-speeding anything anyway. He's got the Leech Seed and Toxic for the deadly duo that cause him to make him the most annoying pokemon on earth. Knock Off to get rid of annoying items that can cost me the game, and Protect for pure stalling power!
James Bond (Tentacruel) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Ice Beam
James Bond, my special wall, hazard setter and spinner, and all-round pokemon if you ask me. (You cant tell right now but Im doing a scottish accent like Sean Connery). So yeah, basically that sums him up, what he does and all. He covers Tangrowths weaknesses really well, thats the other reason I chose him, but the main reason was just because he fits the team really well. So, his set is pretty standard, Toxic Spikes to set up on teams that are hyper offence so I can wall them, Rapid Spin to get rid of hazards on my team, Scald for STAB and to try and cripple physical attackers, and Ice Beam for coverage against its weaknesses.
Big Daddy (Honchkrow) @ BrightPowder
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Night Slash
- Drill Peck
- Steel Wing
- Roost
Honchkrow is the pokemon I use for revenge killing. He doesn't fit the role too well but it works amazingly with Moxie. His weaknesses are covered by the team and he provides great coverage with an immunity to Psychic which is needed. He's got the BrightPowder because I once played a showdown game and someone had a BrightPowder Honchkrow and I kid you not, I missed around 5 times in a row on it, and since then its actually worked amazingly in my favour. He's got Moxie to make it a viable sweeper, and Im still debating this but as of now he's invested in HP and Atk. I considered speed but he's so slow anyway, I really thought its a waste, what do you think? He's got Night Slash as its pretty much the most powerful physical dark move in the game. Drill Peck for good coverage over my core and a great STAB move, Steel Wing for fairies and Roost for recovery if he doesn't get KO'd (Lol)
Tooth-Brush (Hippowdon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Thunder Fang
- Stone Edge
This is the pokemon I have the most doubts over. Better replacements for him would be appreciated, but I cant find anything better honestly. He hasn't been working very well on the team, simply because I've been encountering a lot of counters for it that I just dont have covered. Anyway, I chose Hippowdon because it covers rock types that i dont honestly have covered any other safe way. He comes in and basically tries to take care of any pokemon that i'm scared of; mainly because it can take a hit and place a bigger one back. Yes it has sand force which is completely useless, but honestly I'd rather have a useless ability rather than one that will just hurt my team. Its EV set is built around what I said earlier. It has earthquake because I need an EQ user and hell! Its Earthquake! Ice Fang to deal with Grass types, Thunder Fang for Waters, Stone edge for Ices.
One of the BIG things I notice: My team is cripplingly slow. I need a counter for this when you reply.
Please rate my team! Thanks for getting through all of this BTW (If you did) xD
