ORAS OU 1st Team

Hi everyone. Incredibly new to Smogon and would just like you guys to look through my team. Its a bunch of Pokemon I've always wanted to use so I stuck them together. I've had a few matches on Showdown and they seem to work ok. One note though: This is a team I want to breed on Pokemon Y.

chesnaught.gif

EcoTank (Chesnaught) (M) @ Leftovers

Ability: Bulletproof

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe

Impish Nature

- Super Fang

- Spikes

- Seed Bomb

- Drain Punch

First off I wanted to use Chesnaught. It's a strong wall with drain punch, allowing it to hopefully set up a few spikes. Seed bomb is just for STAB. I'm a huge advocate of Super Fang as it means my other Pokemon can rip into Pokemon setting up their defenses.

gardevoir-mega.gif

Empress (Gardevoir) (F) @ Gardevoirite

Ability: Synchronize

EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD

Modest Nature

- Will-O-Wisp

- Shadow Ball

- Hyper Voice

- Psyshock

Mega Gardevoir is an awesome special attacker. I opted for Will-O-Wisp over Calm Mind as it helps against physical Pokemon that put dents in it. I use Shadow Ball over Focus Blast as it seems to do the same job and is decent against Mega-Metagross. Last two moves are self-explanatory. Absolutely HATES Gengar.

scizor.gif

RedMech.Mk.I (Scizor) (M) @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Technician

EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe

Adamant Nature

- Bullet Punch

- U-turn

- Superpower

- Knock Off

Scizor carries a standard Smogon set. He's great at picking off weakened pokemon and just being relatively annoying with knock Off. If up against a special attacker with a fire move I U-Turn to Goodra. Superpower for steel types and Bullet Punch for STAB.

goodra.gif

Mud Cake (Goodra) (M) @ Assault Vest

Ability: Gooey

EVs: 240 HP / 252 SpA / 16 Spe

Modest Nature

- Dragon Pulse

- Sludge Bomb

- Fire Blast

- Thunderbolt

Goodra's special defense is ridiculous. He's great at taking on the majority of fairy types except Azumarill (that's why I have Scizor). Sludge Bomb for fairies. Fire Blast for steel types. Thunderbolt for Talonflame or Starmie or just to do damage. Dragon Pulse for STAB.

garchomp.gif

Ol' Chompy (Garchomp) (M) @ Rocky Helmet

Ability: Rough Skin

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature

- Stealth Rock

- Dragon Claw

- Earthquake

- Swords Dance

I was unsure about using Garchomp (I'm not a fan of too overly used Pokemon). I needed a good physical attacker which could lend some support and it fitted the bill. Stealth Rock just to add to spikes. Other moves are just standard on Garchomp. I'm probably just inexperienced but he seems to die before he is truly useful.

sableye.gif

Miner's Curse (Sableye) (M) @ Leftovers

Ability: Prankster

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

Impish Nature

- Taunt

- Will-O-Wisp

- Recover

- Knock Off

Was originally a Shadow Tag Gothitelle which failed me numerous times. This is also a standard Smogon set. It always seems to get checked by other taunt users (whimsicott and Thundurus). Will-O-Wisp is fabulous for taking out physical threats. Recover, Knock Off and Taunt just to be a nuisance.

So there you have it; my first team.
I understand it's not the best, but I enjoy using it. I look forward to your criticism.

Hey, welcome to Smogon! I understand that this is your first team and as such I won't critique it too hard. To be honest, this looks more competitively viable then my very first team did haha. I'll just offer a couple of suggestions that might help it perform a bit better. One thing I really like about it is that you have Superpower on Scizor, which lures in Heatran and gets rid of it, giving Mega Gardevior a much easier time of doing it's job. However I think that Choice Scarf might not be the optimal set here. I would suggest trying out a fast Swords Dance set, which would give you a chance at a late game sweep. That set would look something like this:

Scizor @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Bug Bite

Another thing I like is that you have Rocky Helmet Garchomp, which is actually one of the most popular mons in the metagame right now. However, to me it seems like your set is trying to do too much; wear things down with recoil damage, set up stealth rocks, as well as try to Swords Dance and sweep. My suggestion would be to try out a defensive set with Dragon Tail. This set is great here for a couple of reasons. It can come in on physical attackers like Mega Lopunny (which seems to do a lot of damage to your team) and wear them down with Rough Skin and Rocky Helmet. The other thing this set can do for your team is phaze things around with Dragon Tail. Since you have Spikes on your team this will be incredibly effective at wearing down the opposing team quickly and easily. That set would look something like this:

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Tail
- Stealth Rock

I hope this helped! Good luck with the team and keep at it, we're all beginners at some point. :)

Thanks for the advice! They are great suggestions and I think I'll implement them onto my team.

Hey fren, welcome! Try beefing up your rmt with sprites that can be found here

http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/xy/sprites/animados/darmanitan.gif < input mon

http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/rubi-omega-zafiro-alfa/sprites/animados/salamence-mega.gif < for megas

(Input them by clicking in the little mountain thing when editing ((which is found on the bottom of ur post)) and inputting the url)

These sprites make your rmt looks tons better! :]

(I'm not a fan of to overly used Pokemon).
Too* (ask darkrai how much of a nit picker I am, it's really scary :/)

Scizor @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Bug Bite

Make it 4 SpD > 4 Hp (I'm fucking terrible nit picker, help)

Now I can get to the team :D!:

Firstly, I would implement darkrai147 's changes (tagging u cuz ur a (BAN ME PLEASE) Cept ://///). This will help ur team tremendously.

652.gif
- Chesnaught:

Tbh super fang isn't that good :/. I would run Leech Seed > Super Fang in order for a steady recovery that also supplement for the rest of your team, via switching. In order to maximize this recovery, I suggest running Spiky Shield > Drain Punch so 1) you can scout choice users and act accordingly 2) combined with leech seed and spiky shield damage, opponent loses around a quarter of their health when used correctly. This will make Chesnaught a bulky mon that forces many switches while wearing down the opp and getting up spikes in the process.

Chesnaught @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD / 4 Atk
Impish Nature
- Spiky Shield
- Leech Seed
- Seed Bomb
- Spikes

Also, your team has a giant weakness to both fairy type attacks (I.e. Calm Mind Magic Guard Clefable) and Talonflame (SDs freely on Chesnaught and just wins). In order to patch this up I would run SpD Heatran > Goodra

485.png
- This mon helps patch up the aforementioned problems and also helps as it absorbs fire type attacks aimed at scizor and ice type attacks aimed at garchomp, becoming a great core with these mons.
#FieryMemes (Heatran) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 Hp / 68 Spe / 192 SpD
Calm Nature
- Taunt
- Stone Edge
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power

Gl with getting into mons fren n-n

Hi there Slurmz,

Firstly, I have fixed my spelling mistake.
Secondly, will try to put in sprites soon.
Thirdly, thanks for the advice! I'll try it out on showdown soon.
With Chesnaught (is that a Shofu reference?) however, I use drain punch for a sense of safety (It saved me when I was pitted against an Ice Punch Conckeldurr). I can't see to much use in having Spiky Shield considering most of the choice band users I can think of tend to resist Grass. Leech Seed on the other hand is something I will gladly switch Super Fang out for.
Then with Heatran. I will definitely try it out on showdown but I must ask if you know of any non-legendary mons that fill the same role. This is just on the basis that I'm going to breed this team on Y and would love not having to look for a Heatran with the correct nature.
Thanks!

Hi MCtoxic,

I'm kind of new to this rating thing as well, but I know some stuff about pokemon. This team looks interesting on paper, a lot of sets are relatively original and could surprise a lot of opponents. The hazard stacking capabilities will come in handy for your teams sweepers (Gardevoir , Scizor). However I do have some suggestions on how to make this team work even better without changing a whole lot.

First of all I agree with darkrai147 in changing Garchomp into a defensive 'mon which would benefit your team more, 'cause it can come in into steel types which counter your Mega-Gardevoir.

Secondly , I would suggest changing shadow ball back into focus blast because I personally wouldn't let gardevoir stay in against bullet punch users, steel walls or bisharp . Dark types , like t-tar and bisharp, can be countered pretty easily with this move so it would give you more of an edge against those pokes. Maybe if you want to keep the element of suprise and predict an opponent's switch into scizor or ferro you might want to go with HP fire. Does 65-80% to ferro and ohko scizor.
I also really like calm mind on gardevoir , but I don't think you are going to need that because it comes in late game to sweep anyways. Will-O is very good for sucker punching bisharps.

Empress (Gardevoir) (F) @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Focus blast - Will-o Wisp - Hyper Voice - Psyshock

Thirdly , I do not like a choice scarf on Scizor cause he doesn't really benefit from the speed anyways. Therefore, I am suggesting a choice band + max hp to life more hits and get a slow u-turn off which can give your team more initiative. Also max HP deals with azumaril and it can also serve as a mandatory mega metagross switch in. It can tank a meteor mash + hammer arm, and deal about 50% with CB u-turn, allowing you to go out into chomp.
Going Green (Scizor) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit

Last of all, I would suggest an eviolite chansey instead of Goodra cause it can sponge lot's of attacks but that is up to you.

Sorry for the long read!
Juridisch advies

Im going to completely disagree with nomination for a couple reasons.

1) This will completely throw off any momentum you have gained with switches and backs you up when they have something such as a guts conk, which give thems a free switch in on Chaney and do loads of damage (sableye and garde arent counters, garde takes like 60 from guts knock off and well sableye gives conk guts...)

2) this switch makes your team MORE suspectible to talonflame, which can SD up and sweep your team, albeit if garchomp is weakened but even then gar cant KO it and while it does force it out, it justs let tflame come back in and try to sweep again

E: it wasn't a shofu reference ;-;
E2: pls add an importable at the end

Hi everyone.

Juridisch advies, thanks for your suggestions! I will try out focus blast on Gardevoir soon. Shadow ball practically served the same purpose I guess. I thought it would be useful if ever I came up against another Mega-Gardevoir but hyper voice seems to do enough damage.
With Scizor on the other hand; I think I'll keep him with a Life Orb. I've had quite a bit of success with him.

With most of Pokemon though, I guess I enjoy having some little niche that goes against the standard set (Take Chesnaught with Super Fang for example).
Slurmz; i will try out Heatran soon. If you ever come across any non-legendary Pokemon that fills the same role, please let me know.
Also, I have to ask how do I add an importable list and how do I tag people?

Many thanks everyone!

In the Teambuilder on Pokemon Showdown, there is an Import/Export button where you can copy the importable version of your team. To make it hidden like several people in this thread have, you use the hide tag. To tag people simply put an @ before their username.
