Normally when I play on pokemon showdown I just like to make fun, silly teams to try and see if I can actually win with them. However, once in a while I like to try and make a team that I can actually win with and ladder a decent amount. I am not the best team builder by any means so any suggestions would be helpful!
So at first I wanted to use a pokemon that I actually don't see used a whole lot and would still be fun to use. So my first pokemon ended up Mega Slowbro. I honestly don't see it a whole lot at all and I had never used it before so I thought I'd give it a go.
Slowbro @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Slack Off
- Ice Beam
- Psyshock
- Scald
I didn't want to use the common calm-mind sweeper set because I've never been a fan of boosting with pokemon (although I have done it before and it works remarkably well in some cases, I just never could do it effectively). I went with the defensive slowbro to tank most physical attacks. I went with Slack Off for good recovery, Ice Beam for dragon pokes like Dragonite and Lati@s, Scald as a standard water attack and chance to burn, and Psyshock for coverage and potential switch ins.
The next pokemon is one of my favourite pokemon which I really wanted to use on this team. I've always loved Breloom ever since I first used him/her in RBS! I like its typing and I personally think it is underrated in the OU tier.
Breloom @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Rock Tomb
I had a tough time choosing what type of set to run on Breloom. I wanted to use Poison Heal/Swords Dance/Facade or a Stall Breloom but I eventually chose Sash Breloom because its the set I know the best and is fairly simple. Just a standard Breloom set with Spore for putting foes to sleep, Bullet Seed for that Technician boosted, multi-hit, grass move. Mach punch for priority and STAB, and lastly Rock Tomb for threats like Talonflame and Zard-y.
So having my first two pokes set it was time to start building a team around them. Looking at my team so far I decided to go with the Water-Grass-Fire Core.
Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
I chose Heatran to finish my core out, but I wanted to catch my opponets off guard a little. Although ScarfTran is used in the OU Meta, I hardly see it and its a good way to trick people into losing a poke because they thought it was the standard set. Earth Power, Flash Cannon, and Fire Blast are all fairly hard hitting moves and give pretty good coverage. At the moment I have HP Ice but I am unsure if I will keep it or switch it with some other move. Suggestions Welcome!
These next two pokemon I kind of chose simultaneously. I already had a FWG core but I had also heard of a Steel-Fairy-Dragon Core and thought if I could fit them both in this team it would work pretty well. For that reason I chose Specially Defensive Clefable and Bulky Garchomp.
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Aromatherapy
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
Clefable is pretty good, not gonna lie. Its not my favourite pokemon but I've used it in the past and it is such a versatile poke! Again I went with a fairly standard set. The main reason I kept Sash Breloom was because I knew Id be running Aromatherapy on Clefable to keep Slowbro heatlhy and it would be counter-active if Breloom had Poison heal. Clafable is a great wish passer and gets quite a bit of use as a pivot for my team.
Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 76 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Toxic
To finish my SFD core Garchomp was a pretty good choice because it is a good stealth rocker and give my electric immunity which is helpful for Mega Slowbro. I think this is a standard bulky Garchomp with Rocky Helmet. Earthquake for damages and Dragon Tail to phases pokes out, also Toxis to wear down some tanks that might switch in.
This last pokemon I've had a really tough time choosing what it should be. I realize I need a some way to get rid of hazards but after testing a little I realized my team doesn't have a whole lot of damage, I tend to switch a lot and felt like I needed a little bit more bulk. So I sacraficed hazard remover for Tyranitar.
Tyranitar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Thunder Punch
This last pokemon is honestly up for any suggestions. I really need help finishing this team. For right now though I have AV T-Tar. I love to pursuit trap pokemon which is why I have pursuit. Stone edge and Crunch for stab. And lastly I chose Thunder Punch as a means to possibly weaken a few water pokemon switch ins like Keldeo. So far T-Tar has been working out pretty good but I sometimes still have trouble winning. (It may just be my battling skills but hopefully with your guys help I can ladder pretty high with this team!)
Sorry no replays :(
