Hello Everyone,
I am new to the Smogon forums but have been battling pretty competitively for a while now. That being said, this team has been a work in progress for a while now, as Sceptile is one of my favorite Pokemon and I really like his mega form. It's been a tough run trying to make this team, and it's changed quite a lot but this build has been pretty consistent, and I wanted to get you guys' opinions. Here it is.
Smaug (Sceptile-Mega) @ Sceptilite
Ability: Lightning Rod
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Earthquake
- Energy Ball
- Focus Blast
Typical Mega Sceptile set, Dragon pulse and Energy Ball for hard hitting STAB. I debated on using Focus Blast instead of EQ, but I like that EQ can hit fire types hard and can potentially prevent me from having to switch out, especially late game. HP Fire is for Ferrothorn and other grass or steel types obviously. Timid nature as opposed to Modest because I want to be able to outspeed most things, and if I don't think I can OHKO or safely 2HKO, I'll switch out.
edit: Changed HP Fire to Focus Blast due to suggestion.
Darmanitan @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Rock Slide
- U-turn
- Superpower
Typical Darmantian set, choice scarf to outspend other fire types, max attack and speed EVs to ensure max speed and hitting hard. U-turn so he can potentially lead and switch out while still hitting hard, and a Jolly nature just to further ensure that he outspeeds. I went with max speed over max power, such as using a choice band and an adamant nature because he has a base 140 atk, and I felt like that coupled with max EV investment can OHKO most things I would send him out against and he does. I may change to choice band because he is jolly, but I'm just really nervous about him being outspend but another scarf users and being OHKO or 2HKO before he can do much damage to the other team.
Honchkrow @ Life Orb
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Superpower
- Sucker Punch
- Roost
Moxie because this thing takes down a lot of mons, especially with Brave Bird and Sucker punch. Superpower to cover other dark types and ensure that I can hit first with STAB. Life Orb because I have Roost so I don't mind taking some extra damage to hit extra hard (Brave Bird + Life Orb is usually OHKO if neutral).
Rhyperior @ Eviolite
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 8 HP / 252 Atk / 248 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Iron Head
This was the slot that was switched out a lot. I had a galvantula for sticky web, but he was too frail, and didn't serve much else of a purpose. I then tried Empoleon, but his fire and ground weakness coupled with his low speed made him not very conducive. So then I tried Rhyperior, and he's perfect. He can set up stealth rocks, and still stay in. He can take multiple hits on most occasions, and can deal out some heavy damage at the same time. I chose Iron head because my team didn't really have any steel moves to cover fairies, and it's still somewhat of an issue. Eviolite to just further boost both defenses, and EQ and SE for STAB.
Milotic @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Def / 128 SpA
Bold Nature
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Scald
- Dragon Pulse
This was the other slot that kept changing. I had Empoleon and Galvantula, then I had Skarmory, and I decided to go with Milotic simply for bulk, water STAB and Ice Beam. I didn't have many answers for mons like Gliscor and Dragon types, so Ice Beam helps with that. Scald is a nice STAB with a good chance of burning, and Recover along with Leftovers juts helps to keep the lady in there longer. The EV spread is pretty random, I noticed that with the EVs fully invested in HP, Milotic's SpA was garbage, and a scald couldn't take out much, so I wanted some investment in SpA while keeping investment in HP because she is supposed to take a lot of hits.
Mismagius @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic
The last spot has been on this team since the beginning. Mismagius is an amazing Ghost type. I'm considering moving some EVs from HP to speed just to help her outspeed other Ghost types (right now she's outsped by some variations of Chandelures) but other than that I like her setup. Shadow Ball for STAB, thunderbolt to cover Water and Flying types which I don't have many fast answers for. Dazzling Gleam to hit Dark types, mainly Hydreigons, and psychic to cover poison types and fighting types if Honchcrow goes down.
So yeah this is my team, please tell me what you think and if there's anything you would change about it! Thanks!
