Heya guys,
it's ya boy Deeerpz here with another RMT after a recent hiatus from posting on this site. The current state of the community isn't particularly welcoming at times, but with these issues being adressed, I decided to give it another go and participate again. And with that and some fresh tunes from Lord of the Lords, Josh Homme, we start this RMT.
Teambuilding Process
Everything started with Lord Klang. The dude is just way too good not to use him right now, setting up on a lot of the tier. I wanted to build a team specifically catered around clearing a path for Lord Klang.
What does Lord Klang hate? Pesky fire types. What does Lord Klang love? Dat Stealth Rock support. Pimplup takes both things into concerns and lords his way into this team.
Know what Else Lord Klang hates? Fighting and Steel types. Know who eats these guys for breakfast? THIS GUY. Weezing also has dose Toxic Spikes to really make enemies question their decisions in life.
So at this point, I felt like my team wasn't NEARLY lame enough, so I added WishTectDino. Heal Bell is neat cause Lord Klang doesn't appreciate status on his lordly Gears, and Dazzling Gleam cause well, what else are you honestly gonna use here?
Pimplup already has a lot of duties on his wings, putting up Stealth Rocks, Defogging shit and stuff, so I wanted a second pokemon to take care of Rock and Ground types.
This ends up being my lead more often than not. I used to have Taunt Pyroar in this slot, but that made me super weak to Ground and Rock and I also felt stupidly weak to Uxies and Mesprits, who happen to be very common.
Detailed Description
Lord Klang - Klingklang
136 HP | 252+ ATK | 120 SPE
Leftovers | Clear Body | Adamant
- Substitute
- Shift Gear
- Gear Grind
- Return
Lord Klang, star of the team. I wanted to build around this guy for a really, really long time but never got around to it and now I feel like the time has cometh. I took this set straight from Smogon and I'm not sure what the EV spread is supposed to do, but it's Klingklang. It works regardless. There's really not much to say about this beast. Prepare for him or get swept.
Pimplup - Primplup
248 HP | 252+ DEF | 8 SPA
Eviolite | Torrent | Bold
- Scald
- Defog
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
Pimplup is a really good pokemon in NU, period. I like the fact it is able to run both physically and specially defensive sets, and I've experimented with both, but it seems like the physical variant works out better in this team. The set is really standard, and I've trie'd multiple moves in the Toxic slot but end up falling back on it. It's really neat if you can predict something like a Samurott switchin and cripple it from the get-go. It's also my secondary check for physical ground types like Sandslash in case I don't want to bring in Lilligant yet.
Shneezing - Weezing
248 HP | 252+ DEF | 8 SPA
Black Sludge | Levitate | Bold
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sludge Bomb
- Flamethrower
- Toxic Spikes
I had never used Weezing prior to this team and man, it's a damn shame. This thing really puts a dent into Sawk's cleaning capabilities and it obliterates any steel types I can think of. Will-o-Wisp is for predicted switchins or to stall out turns in which I can click Toxic Spikes. I thought about running Pain Split for a while, but I can't find room for it and Wish support helps out anyways. Either way, it's a deadly teammate for any Klinklang and it puts in all the work.
Lame - Audino
248 HP | 252+ SPD | 8 SPA
Audinite | Regenerator | Sassy
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Dazzling Gleam
Another pokemon I haven't used before. Audino is so stupidly tanky. It's really unfair. I chose the specially defensive set because I didn't really have any switchins for stuff like Rotom and it just seemed to fit. Heal Bell is to support the allmighty Lord Klang specifically, though it is nice to uncripple your Lilligant and Liepard from paralysis every once in a while. Other than that, Audino can mega evolve to act as somewhat of a very soft fighting check and a decent way to wear Malamar down. I believe that dude would be a guaranteed 3HKO with something like 40-48 SpA EVs, but between Will-O-Wisp, Toxic Spikes and U-Turn, Malamar hasn't really been an issue this far.
Billypant - Lilligant
252 SPA | 252+ SPE | 4 SPD
Life Orb | Own Tempo | Timid
- Sleep Powder
- Quiver Dance
- Giga Drain
- HP Rock
Pretty standard Lilligant Set. For a while, I wasn't sure if I wanted to run Sleep Powder/Quiver Dance due to Toxic Spikes and tried a scarf variant with Healing Wish, but it didn't end up working out aswell, and honestly, Sleep Powder still puts in tons of work. HP Rock hits Scyther and Fletchinder switchins mostly, and the occasional Articuno. Lilligant mostly just kills a bunch of stuff that Lordklang dislikes or it flat out wins the game.
Shypard - Liepard
252 ATK | 252+ SPE | 4 SPD
Black Glasses | Prankster | Jolly
- U-Turn
- Encore
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
Liepard has been a staple in my teams for a while now. Prankster Encore is a godsend, Sucker Punch nets revenge kills against the likes of Swellow, Fletchinder, boosted Lilligants and stuff like that. Knock Off is Knock Off, and U-Turn is able to quickly get me into more favourable matchups right from the get-go. I have also seen absurd amounts of Light Clay Uxie lately, so this has really put in TONS of work.
Final Thoughts / Threats
This team has been working incredibly well for me, getting several accounts up to respectable GXEs over a lot of games. Even though I personally prefer playing a more offensive playstyle, I cannot say that I strictly dislike playing the way this team requires to be played. It's a vastly different style, utilizing stallish, defensive options over looking to create timing windows via offense, but it certainly is reallllllly effective. That being said, I feel like both Hariyama and Gurdurr can still give this team trouble, aswell as AgilityPass SubPetaya Harvest Exeggutor (lol) if you don't lead with Liepard. Jynx requires some predictions, Archeops can be a nuisance depending on set, but in general, I feel like i'm well equipped to deal with big portions of the meta.
