Hey anyone reading this post, this is the first RMT I've made. It is Volt-Turn, Hazard Stack. But instead of Pawniard, I decided to spice it up a bit and use Purugly as my Defog Deterrent. The team has been good in practice, I got to finals in a tourney using it and won finals with a different team because I was scared of a Counter Team lol. So lets get into the team.
Mirak (Garbodor) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Gunk Shot
- Drain Punch
- Toxic Spikes
The first member of this team is a Standard Defensive Spiking Garbodor. The Slot was a mixup between Garb and Rose. I picked Garbodor because of the ability to wear down scarf physical attackers such as Scyther and Sawk. It has a Standard EV Spread and I chose Toxic spikes in the last slot because paired with Puruglys fake out it wears down threats very quickly. Gunk Shot is a Strong Stab that hits things like Xatu on the switch in, and is just a great stab in general. Drain Punch prevents Steel Types such as Klinklang from setting up, and does damage to Probopass.
Mufasa (Purugly) @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Defiant
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Fake Out
- Frustration
- Knock Off
This Fat Cat is the reason I built this team. As I said earlier I chose it over Pawniard. It's ability Defiant makes the opponent think twice about defogging, because if they do Purugly can come in, get a +2 attack boost, and potentially sweep the opponents team. The item I chose was silk scarf to power up the two stab moves Purugly will be using, Life Orb is an option as well. U-turn is there to scout if they are switching or not and if Purugly needs to get out of an unfavorable match up it can. It also slowly wears down opponents when they switch, especially if I got garbodors hazards up. Fake Out works with wearing down the opposing mons with chip damage and it also works with Toxic Spikes, if the opponents pokemon is poisoned, they will take a good amount from Fake Out + Poison damage. Frustration is a strong STAB partnered with Silk Scarf. Knock Off allows me to stay in against ghosts such as Mismagius and KO them after some prior damage. Thanks to Puruglys exceptional speed tier at 112 base, I out speed some of the most popular NU mons such as Tauros and Archeops allowing me to Frustration/U-turn respectively. Floatzel and Zebstrika both outspeed me, but both of them being frail lets me at least get a good amount of damage with Fake Out off.
Dawn (Xatu) @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Roost
- Giga Drain
- U-turn
This team does not need hazard removal specifically for any pokemon on it, So instead of having a dedicated defogger I slapped on a Xatu to think twice about setting up hazards, and maybe I can get some hazards up with Xatu if they do decide to use a hazard move. Xatu also pairs well with Garbodor, Switching in on Ground and Psychic moves. The EVs are a standard defensive pivot spread, I decided to put colbur berry on Xatu, so that if a pokemon such as Sawk should use Knock Off, Xatu can stay in and Psychic it. Roost is so that I can stay in on certain things longer, being that Xatu cannot be poisoned by Toxic, It can stall out bulkier mons, and can stay in on offensive threats longer. Giga Drain helps me beat Quagisre and a weakened Rhydon. U-Turn is for momentum, as you can see I put 0 Ivs in Atk to minimize damage from Foul Play since I am not relying on U-Turn to do any damage.
turn (Rotom) @ Spell Tag
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Shadow Ball
- Thunder Wave
- Hex
Rotom fits on the team well has a Spinblocker, and also can abuse the Toxic Spikes from Garbodor. I have a Standard offensive spread on this pokemon. Spell Tag as the item allows Hex to do a lot of damage to a statused foe, Garbodors Toxic Spikes help with that. Shadow Ball is a secondary STAB Option, also hitting hard with spell tag, just in case the opponent is not statused. I decided for Thunder Wave > Will-O-Wisp so that i may cripple fast threats. (also a little yellow magic never hurt the side using the move, right?)
Thunder Wave also gives Hex the boost, in case I did not get Toxic Spikes up or the opposing pokemon has a typing/ability allows them to avoid the Toxic Spikes all together. Volt Switch gains momentum and is my only Electric Type STAB move. I chose it over Thunderbolt because Thunderbolt does not gain momentum at all, I'm clicking Shadow Ball/Hex more anyway.
Pumba (Piloswine) @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Icicle Spear
- Ice Shard
- Stealth Rock
Piloswine is my Stealth Rocker, Ice type switch in, and Skuntank check. This little guy does a lot for the team. Eviolite is the item, raising Piloswines bulk making it exceptional. A standard spread for Piloswine as well, Dishing out lots of damage with an adamant nature. Earthquake is its strongest STAB move, hitting Rock types, Steel Types and Poison types that might try to set up hazards such as Rhydon, Garbodor and Probopass. Icicle Spear is there as another STAB, hitting Flying things that come in, or might want to come in on an Earthquake. Ice Shard is a great move as it has Priority, meaning it will go first. It hits things that are faster and might knock Piloswine out. Its great to hit Swellow for a lot of damage, and in general just weakens things for the other pokemon + hazards to knock out later in the match. Stealth Rock weakens opponents along with Spikes as they switch around a lot.
Chauffeur (Poliwrath) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 96 HP / 252 SpA / 160 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Focus Blast
- Ice Beam
- Vacuum Wave
Poliwrath, this pokemon is my Water Immunity and a soft check for Rhydon. 160 Speed EVs allow Poliwrath to outspeed neutral-natured Aurorus, and Base 55s. The 252 Special Attack EVs are to maximize Poliwraths damage with a Modest nature. The rest goes into HP with 96 evs to give Poliwrath some bulk. The first move is Hydro Pump, A strong water stab doing massive damage to most things. Scald is an option over Hydro Pump, the reason I have Hydro Pump is because the main goal of this team is to set up Toxic Spikes so burning the opponent wont help if they are poisoned already. Focus Blast is a strong fighting type STAB doing reasonable damage, if I hit it. It Ohkos Aurorus which the EV spread I am using creeps it. It also allows me to hit Klinklang and almost ohko it. Ice Beam is there so I can hit grass types that want to come in on a Water Stab. Vacuum Wave is a great STAB special priority move, Allowing Poliwrath to finish off weakened foes that outspeed it, and just getting off damage if Poliwrath is guaranteed to faint that turn.
I have yet to top ladder with this team, I plan on doing it in the future, since it has the potential to do so. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
