Week 4 Standard Rotom-W
479-wash.gif

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Rotom-W isn't as common as it was in the XY Metagame, but it is still a pain to deal with in ORAS, as it walls so many things thanks to its typing being Water/Electric and ability Levitate losing one of its weaknesses being Ground. Rotom-W is annoying to deal with as it's tanky, can Volt Switch out, Burn you with Will-O-Wisp, and Recover HP with Pain Split+Leftovers. Rotom-W EV Spread is for outspeeding Jolly Azumarill and still being bulky in Defense.

P.S. Sorry my lack of helping in this thread, I'll promise to do more in the future :]

Landorus-Therian @ Soft Sand / Earth Plate
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Smack Down
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Knock Off / U-Turn
Easy way to kill off Rotom-W
Jus Smack Down when it comes in, and destroy it with an EQ
252 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Rotom-W: 254-300 (83.5 - 98.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Will usually KO after Smack Down damage

(M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Defiant
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Knock Off

The goal here is not necessarily to lure Rotom-Wash by itself, but to use it as Swords Dance set-up (and then kill him because if your opponent has nothing to switch into +0 Bisharp when you click Swords Dance, he has probably nothing to send into +2 as well).

It pretty much works everytime because people are not expecting Lum Berry on Bisharp (even if it got some usage recently), so they will usually try to burn you when you are at +0, giving you a free opportunity to set your Swords Dance up.

The main advantage of Lum Berry Bisharp is that you are not even restricting your building since it's not only useful against Rotom-Wash but every Will-o-Wisp (see Talonflame, Mew and Gengar), Scald (Starmie) and T-Wave (Thundurus), you "only" loose some power from LO but you don't feel the recoil, so it's not that huge.

EVs are pretty standard, enough speed to be faster than standard Rotom-Wash so you will Knock Off before the (second) Will-o-Wisp.

+2 252 Atk Bisharp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 212+ Def Rotom-W: 219-258 (72.2 - 85.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

As you can see you need some prior damage to be really effective, but Rotom-Wash is one of the hardest mon to keep life at full, so it won't be that hard to put him in +2 Knock Off range.

I'm going to reserve Jirachi. When I get home, I'll finish it up.

jirachi.gif

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 224 HP / 252 SpA / 32 Spe
Modest Nature
- Energy Ball
- Psyshock
- Calm Mind
- Flash Cannon/Hidden Power Fire

Calm Mind Jirachi is not a common set, and is usually favored with either a physical set or even a mixed set. However, this can serve as a good Rotom-Wash lure. Normally, Jirachi is countered by Rotom-Wash, as it does not fear Iron Head or paralysis, and can burn Jirachi as well. However, this set does not fear burns as much. Calm mind helps lower the damage done by Rotom-Wash, and boosts the damage done by Jirachi. Energy Ball is the main move of this lure, as it 2HKOs Rotom-Wash, and at +1 Special Attack can possibly OHKO it after Stealth Rock. Psyshock is to help win against Chansey and Blissey, and the last move is up to you. Flash Cannon can be used for secondary STAB and Fairies, while HP Fire can be used to beat steels, especially ones like Scizor and Ferrothorn. The EVs also help it outspeed Rotom-Wash with those EVs.

252+ SpA Jirachi Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-W: 170-202 (55.9 - 66.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ SpA Jirachi Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 8 SpD Rotom-W: 252-298 (82.8 - 98%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

0 SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. 224 HP / 0 SpD Jirachi: 124-147 (31.2 - 37%) -- 79.1% chance to 3HKO
0 SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. +1 224 HP / 0 SpD Jirachi: 84-99 (21.1 - 24.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

@ Silk Scarf
Ability: Huge Power
252 Atk / 252 SpDef / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
-Facade
-Waterfall / Knock Off
-Aqua Jet
-Play Rough

Hitting Rotom-W with a STAB move on switch-in will bluff an Assault Vest set. Upon burning it, it is 2HKOed by Facade over 90% of the time:

252+ Atk Silk Scarf Huge Power Azumarill Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Rotom-W: 158-186 (51.9 - 61.1%) -- 94.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Refresh is a way to remove burn, but this set is outsped by Rotom-W and will just get burned again.

Not only a Rotom-W lure, but also a general middle finger to burn inflicting mons such as Keldeo or Heatran.

Not only a Rotom-W lure, but also a general middle finger to burn inflicting mons such as Keldeo or Heatran.

I have a couple of problems with this.

1. Rotom-Wash is faster than Azumarill, so after getting dented with Facade, it can simply Volt Switch out, dealing decent damage to Azumaril.

2. While it will take more damage from Volt Switch, your EV spread is not optimal, especially when it comes to facing physical attackers that might come in on Azumarill. A better spread so Azumarill can take a Volt Switch better while still being able to take physical attacks is 252 Atk/200 HP/56 SpDef. Even with 252 SpDef EVs and 4 HP EVs, Azumarill gets dented hard by Volt Switch.

3. Heatran wouldn't come in on Azumarill, usually only defensive Heatrans run Lava Plume, and even if it did and you used Facade, Heatran wouldn't take much as it is a part Steel-type. You're better off using Waterfall.

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Superpower
- Swords Dance

Rotom-W is often used as a switch-in to Mega Scizor, however, an offensive Bug Bite set is able to outspeed and OHKO it at +2 after little prior damage :

+2 252+ Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bug Bite vs. 248 HP / 212+ Def Rotom-W: 255-300 (84.1 - 99%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Heatran @ Power Herb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Solar Beam

In a very similar situation to Keldeo, Rotom-W is generally considered a safe switch-in to Heatran. Solar Beam is able to OHKO the majority of the time after Rocks, and Heatran has the advantage of being able to outspeed if rolls aren't in your favor. This also helps with bulky Water-types in general, things like Azumarill, Suicune, and Quagsire.
Idk ideas are hard to come up with at 6 am ~_~

252 SpA Heatran Solar Beam vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Rotom-W: 246-290 (81.1 - 95.7%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Gyarados @ Liechi Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 56 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce
- Natural Gift

Similar to Talonflame, Gyarados can actually make use of Natural Gift to remove Rotom-W who likes to switch into it. While it does require a bit of prior damage to actually work, Rotom-W is used as a blanket check of sorts so it will never be at 100% except at the start of the match in which you just click Waterfall as it comes in and then switch out. Next time it comes in, you will be at +1 and destroy it with your Natural Gift. It is also able to OHKO Quagsire, Azumarill, Starmie and dent Slowbro / Suicune at +1.

+1 252 Atk Liechi Berry Gyarados Natural Gift (100 BP Grass) vs. 248 HP / 212+ Def Rotom-W: 226-266 (74.5 - 87.7%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 244 Atk / 12 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Freeze Dry

Rotom-W is a nice switchin for Mamoswine because it is immune to Earthquake and takes little damage from Icicle Crash. However, Freeze Dry is able to 2hko Rotom-W with rocks on the field:
12 SpA Life Orb Mamoswine Freeze-Dry vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-W: 143-172 (47 - 56.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

camerupt-mega.gif

Camerupt @ Cameruptite
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 168 HP / 252 SpA / 88 Spe
Modest Nature
- Sunny Day
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Solar Beam
Mega camerupt is like the ultimate Rotom-W lure. Normally the laundry machine have a field day again mega camerupt, but not with this set.
Sunny day not only makes Solar Beam usable, it also halves the power of water attacks, letting the camel to survive those, and power up Fire Blast to hit like a nuke, 2HKOing even resist pokes (so again no rotom-w teams, its still usable)
From experience Wish Clefable is a nice partner, like it apreciate wishes from it, and in return it tank steel and poison attacks. :3

0 SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Mega Camerupt in Sun: 232-280 (71.8 - 86.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Mega Camerupt Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 44 SpD Rotom-W: 282-332 (92.7 - 109.2%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

Isn't Freeze-Dry standard on LO Mamoswine as that's its best option for several bulky waters? Super Effective and unhindered by Scald burns.

It doesn't matter if it's standard, it matters if it lures in Rotom-W and Freeze Dry Mamo succeeds in doing so. Other lures like Offensive SD MScizor and Solarbeam Heatran are also standard sets so I don't really see a problem with my nom

Clefable @ Choice Specs
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast

The traditional switch in for clef is heatran, and as a result people are very accustomed to that being clef's counter as clef is assumed to be either CM unaware or defensive. As a result you may lure heatran in with the Focus Blast, paving way for Mega scizor and Talonflame

252+ SpA Choice Specs Clefable Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 192+ SpD Heatran: 252-298 (65.4 - 77.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
I mean it dents it.

Specially defensive gyarados will not expect the thunderbolt at all, and is no longer a safe switch in.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Clefable Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Bisharp: 426-502 (157.1 - 185.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Clefable Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Bisharp: 168-198 (61.9 - 73%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

the ohko on bisharp is also nice

I think the poke to be lured now is rotom-w *.*
Anyways if you like to use an offensive clefable, i think Life Orb + magic guard is better, becos can change moves

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Earthquake

This works best if your team has another potential Mega such as Scizor. Regular Gyarados is countered by Rotom so it is often switched in. Maintain regular form and DD up as Rotom switches in, then hit it with a Mold Breaker EQ:

+1 252 Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Rotom-W: 264-312 (86.8 - 102.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

EVs: 132 Atk / 160 SAtk / 216 Spe
Mild Nature
- Iron Head
- Energy Ball
- Icy Wind
- Thunderbolt / Hidden Power [Ground] / Hidden Power [Fire]

Rotom-W is a common switch-in to Jirachi because your opponent wants it burned as fast as possible. By adding a twist to the mix set, you do around 65% allowing you to bop it clearing the path for something like Diancie or Talonflame. Leftovers lets you bluff even harder and turns you into a more consistent check to Clefable and Latios.

also, rotom-w is the easiest 'mon to lure LOL
