ORAS OU Back Into Competitive Pokeman~~

Introduction:
It's been a long time since I played and I'm super out of date. So I figured I'd post this team I put together from memory and from the resources around the OU thread and let you all tear it apart.

Thought Process:
I decided to go with Volt-Turn because I had good success with it in the past and I love its mobility and utility.

The first member to add was obviously Scizor and I went with Rotom-W to complete the core.

I always had a love for Celebi and she fits with the theme of the team so I went with Baton Pass/Substitute. I put in Heatran to match the core with Celebi.

Standard Volt-Turn weakness is its inability to punch holes and my team lacked huge power, so I looked up the OU database and found out that Mega-Metagross was a threat.

I also lacked a good Scarf sweeper so I went for Hydreigon who also acts as a revenge killer.

Details:

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Knock Off Pursuit
Standard CB Scizor. Hits like a truck and has decent coverage. I went for Knock Off for annoying walls. Decided on Pursuit for threats. Works as part of the Volt-Turn core and a late game sweeper with Bullet Punch when everything is worn down.

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
Standard Rotom-W. It appears physicall killers are part of the new meta and Will-O-Wisp helps to stop them when it doesn't miss. I went for Leftovers/Pain Split over Chesto/Rest for longevity although I don't know how useful it's been. If I encounter a lot more defensive teams I'll go for Pain Split although Chesto/Rest is better against balanced/offensive teams.

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost
- Defog
Good advice from shui3. After a few games, hazards were wearing down my team too fast, especially with Spikes. I actually remember being one of the few people who advocated this moveset back when it first became known so it's pretty cool to see it's become somewhat mainstream.

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Stone Edge Whirlwind
With BreloomMyHomie’s advice, I’ve decided to run Hippowdon over Heatran. Heatran wasn’t pulling his weight in the team and Hippowdon should fare better. Not to mention my team somehow turned out to be okay with Sand and I’ve played with the weather before for basically the entirety of BW 2.

Metagross @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt
- Hammer Arm
- Ice Punch
My heavy hitter. Decent coverage moves. Works to punch holes. Basically gets a free kill when I have a Substitute up from Celebi. I also needed a good Psychic hitter which Metagross fulfills.

Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Earth Power
- U-turn
Fun to use. Not a lot of people expect him which is even better. Good synergy since he runs U-turn so I can use that if I'm unsure as to what my opponent will do. I've found decent situations where I can switch him in and he finds more use than Heatran (lol). He can function as a late late game sweeper although I often find Scizor better for that role and Hydreigon can often kill one mon before going out.

Looking to Change:

I want to switch out Heatran. He really hasn't given as much use as I thought. During the times that he has come in, I'm often put into a worse position as the opponent gets a free switch-in and I have to Toxic and Protect or Lava Plume and hope for a lucky burn.

I've been thinking about switching him for a frail but powerful sweeper like Lucario who'll benefit more from Substitute. On the other hand, I'm wondering if the defensive core of my team will be hurt because of it. Also wondering how relevant Lucario is in this meta.

Better wall breakers than Meta-Metagross would also be neat if there are any.

Thanks for reading!

Hey man! Cool team you have there. However, I noticed that you're pretty weak to Bisharp. After getting a little prior damage on Hydreigon and setting up a SD on Celebi, it can sweep you. This is why I'm suggesting Hippowdon>Heatran. Hippowdon is a very bulky pokemon, able to switch into not only Bisharp, but also the relevant Electric types in the tier. It also plays a similar roll to Heatran does: It gets up Rocks, and beats Non SD Zard Xs. For Mega Metagross, I feel you should keep it so you have another check to Clefable. Another thing I noticed is that your team doesn't appreciate Gengar either. Nothing except Hydreigon switches into Shadow Ball, and Hydreigon is getting blown back by Focus Blast. Pursuit on Scizor over Knock Off will help take care of the Gengar weakness, but be careful of willowisp sets. GL with the team buddy and hope I helped!

Hey, I like the Metagross+Hydreigon core. I tried it and it works pretty well.

You have a VoltTurn strategy, so you are switching a lot. Having hazard removal is important.
Switching Celebi for Latios or Latias gives you Defog support, they keep the Keldeo-Switchin in the team aswell as having recovery. If you like the bulk, you can run Latias.

Second thing I notice is that you have trouble breaking stall and balance teams effectively.
Life Orb on Hydreigon with Metagross do the job. A U-turn core with Rotom and Scizor works well with that kind of Hydreigon too, because you might get save switchins and thus opportunities to attack. Using Fire Blast on Hydreigon (if we replace Heatran) kills/severly damages Ferrothorn, Skarmory and Scizor too, since they give Metagross trouble. Fire Blast also kills offensive Bisharp which is annoying for your team and you have a ~63% chance to Ohko Assault Vest variants.

As previously mentioned Hippowdon over Heatran helps you against Mega Manectric and Raikou, but Mega Lopunny to which you are weak to and which is used very often at the moment is reliably checked too. Having a secondary Bird check in the back with Rotom, you can run Whirlwind on Hippowdon to deal with Pokemon setting up.
After the changes:

Final thoughts:
I was thinking about changing Rotom to a SpD set, but then using Assault Vest Raikou over Rotom is also a possibility. That would add speed to the team and helps with Serperior and Thundurus. A con is that you get weaker to Sand Offense and Rain. Rotom deals with Swampert and Hippo does ok against Excadrill (the 2hko with earthquake is close, 47% max) You can try it out.
Volcarona looks threatning too, if it sets up, so I'd watch out for that. It's funny how it kills everything after a Quiver Dance and after a bit of damage on Hippowdon and Rotom.

Thanks for reading through it.

- I can’t believe I forgot about weather even though I played Sand for basically the entirety of BW 2 lol. Will switch Hippowdon for Heatran.

- Will also run Pursuit over Knock Off and see how it goes.
