[OVERVIEW]

Lapras sports great neutral coverage between its Water-type STAB move and Freeze-Dry, with the former hitting typical Freeze-Dry switch-ins, such as Piloswine and Fire-types. Lapras also possesses some defensive utility with its impressive natural bulk, a 4x resistance to Ice-type attacks, and Water Absorb. However, Lapras is susceptible to common offensive types, such as Fighting, Grass, Electric, and Rock. Lapras's Ice typing particularly spells trouble for it, as it will lose a quarter of its health every time it switches into Stealth Rock. A mediocre Speed stat also leaves Lapras wishing it could match the pace of other offensive threats, such as Mesprit, Primeape, and Kabutops. Lapras is also overly reliant on Choice Specs for power because of its low Special Attack.

Moves
========

Hydro Pump is Lapras's strongest Water-type STAB move for Ice-resistant foes, such as Magmortar and Piloswine. Freeze-Dry hits Water-types, such as Lanturn and Prinplup, that resist Ice Beam and Hydro Pump. Ice Beam sports a higher Base Power compared to Freeze-Dry, but it loses out on coverage against Water-types. Hidden Power Fire is the best option for Jynx, which switches into Lapras's STAB moves with ease, and it has the bonus of hitting Ferroseed harder than Ice Beam does. Signal Beam can be used if your team is weak to Malamar, with the added benefit of still hitting Jynx. Surf should be used in situations where Lapras can't afford to risk missing a Hydro Pump.

Set Details
========

Running a Modest nature with Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment allows Lapras to hit as hard as possible and to not get left behind by the likes of Aurorus and Cacturne. Choice Specs increases Lapras's Special Attack as much as possible. Water Absorb gives Lapras the option of switching into Scald and other Water-type attacks.

Usage Tips
========

Lapras should be brought in safely with offensive momentum or from a slow U-turn or Volt Switch user, such as Pelipper or Lanturn, respectively. Utilizing its great natural bulk, Lapras can usually take a neutral or sometimes even a super effective special attack from full health. Be meticulous in keeping entry hazards off the field, or else Lapras's bulk will pay the price. Before deciding which coverage move to lock Lapras into, identify which foe that resists Lapras's STAB attacks the easiest to wear down. For example, Piloswine resists both of Lapras's Ice-type STAB attacks but lacks recovery, as opposed to Roselia, which resists Water and can heal off any damage with Synthesis or Rest. Lapras can utilize its typing and ability to pivot into Water- and Ice-type attacks from the likes of Quagsire, Mantine, Vanilluxe, and Aurorus without Ancient Power.

Team Options
========

Pokemon with momentum-grabbing moves, such as U-turn Primeape and Volt Switch Lanturn, can bring Lapras in safely. Lanturn also provides a nice immunity to Electric for Lapras. Rapid Spin or Defog support from the likes of Claydol and Pelipper keeps Spikes and Stealth Rock off the field for Lapras. Claydol and Pelipper can also switch into the Fighting-type attacks that give Lapras trouble. Bulky Poison-types, such as Garbodor and Vileplume, cover the Fighting- and Grass-types that hit Lapras super effectively. Garbodor also sets Spikes, which wears down Lapras's switch-ins.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A set with Block / Dragon Dance / Waterfall / Rest can trap common defensive Pokemon, such as Prinplup and Weezing, and then set up on them thanks to Lapras's impressive bulk. Frost Breath pressures Calm Mind sweepers, such as Mega Audino and Musharna. Icicle Plate or Splash Plate can be used to lessen the need for prediction at the cost of having significantly less power. Running Assault Vest with 252 Special Defense EVs instead of Speed EVs makes Lapras a very good special Water-type switch-in despite its lack of offensive presence. Ice Shard can pick off some weakened offensive threats, such as Lilligant and Swellow.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Specially Bulky Pokemon**: Any Pokemon that doesn't get hit super effectively by one of Lapras's STAB attacks and has a good Special Defense stat to back it up, such as Mega Audino, Musharna, or Hariyama, can threaten it out by setting up on it or crippling it with a status condition.

**Revenge Killers**: Lapras is slow and has a lot of weaknesses, so revenge killers, such as Sawk, Tauros, and Electivire, all force Lapras out with their respective STAB or coverage moves.

**Residual Damage**: Because of its low Speed, Lapras will usually be forced to take some damage before it can launch an attack; combine this with Lapras's weakness to Stealth Rock and lack of recovery, and you might find its HP in critical condition or completely depleted.

**Steel-types**: Ferroseed can take advantage of Lapras Choice-locked into Hydro Pump or Freeze-Dry by setting up Stealth Rock, Spikes, or Leech Seed; however, it must be wary of Hidden Power Fire and Ice Beam, as they both threaten to 2HKO it. Klinklang can also take advantage of Lapras locked into Ice Beam or Freeze-Dry by setting up with Shift Gear, but it must be wary of switching into Hydro Pump or Hidden Power Fire.

If you really want "coverage" for Cryo and Jynx, then Body Slam is the superior option. If Cryo gets paralyzed, it can no longer switch into your Hydro Pumps and Recover stall (as they each do like 60% min), whereas Jynx detests the possibility of paralysis and its Subs get broken. While Body Slam does not 2HKO either of them, Return is not guaranteed either, and the potential paralysis is very useful and offers a very real niche over the other Freeze-Dry mons.

Also note Lapras's ability to utterly demolish Piloswine, which is probably the biggest advantage it has over the other Freeze-Dry mons.

QC ready. lacking in C&C because Lapras is perfect because I feel I covered a little too much in 3 slots. If anyone felt I needed to separate them into more specific sections I'd appreciate that mention in your check :)

[OVERVIEW]

  • Hydro Pump sets it apart from other Freeze-Dry Ice-types because of its great neutral coverage and ability to hit typical Freeze-Dry resists, such as Piloswine and Assault Vest Magmortar.
  • Impressive natural bulk, quad resists Ice, and Water Absorb
  • Typing leaves it weak to Fighting-, Grass-, Electric-, and Rock-types. Rock weakness means Lapras hates switching into Stealth Rock.
  • Slow
  • A tad weak. Can't OHKO bulky stuff unless it hits it super effectively.
dont specifically say av mortar, just say that its distinguished from the other freeze dry mons in that it directly threatens pilo and fire types much more than the other freeze dry users, also its not rly hydro that sets it apart its lapras' water stab in general
the overview should start with how it has outstanding coverage between its stab moves coupled with freeze dry

Moves
========

  • Hydro Pump is your strongest Water-type STAB
  • Freeze-Dry hits Water-types that resist Ice Beam and Hydro Pump give examples please
  • Ice Beam hits Grass-types that resist Hydro Pump and is stronger than Freeze-Dry
  • Hidden Power Fire hits Jynx which resists Lapras's Ice-type STABs and is immune to Hydro Pump due to Dry Skin. Hidden Power Fire also hits Ferroseed harder than Ice Beam.
  • Signal Beam can be used if your team is weak to Malamar. it also hits jynx
  • Surf is an alternative to Hydro Pump in situations where you don't want Lapras to miss

Set Details
========

  • Max Special Attack and max Speed because Lapras needs to hit as hard as possible and it doesn't want to get left behind by the likes of Aurorus and Cacturne.
  • Modest for more Special Attack
  • Choice Specs for as much Special Attack as possible
  • Water Absorb gives Lapras a defensive niche by being able to switch into Scald and other offensive Water-type attacks.

Usage Tips
========

  • Bring Lapras in safely with offensive momentum or a slow U-turn or Volt switch from the likes of Pelipper or Lanturn.
  • Utilizing its great natural bulk, Lapras can usually take a neutral, or sometimes even a super effective, Special attack from full HP. Make sure you know what can knock out Lapras before fearing super effective coverage.
  • Be meticulous in keeping hazards off the field or Lapras loses a lot of its bulk.
  • Before deciding which coverage move to lock yourself into, identify which resist to your STABs is easier to wear down. It's ok if your opponent's Piloswine switches in on Lapras's Freeze-Dry if it's taking Stealth Rock, and potentially Spikes, damage on top of the Freeze-Dry damage, but it's harder to punish a Roselia that switches in on Hydro Pump.
hm I feel these examples are a tad bit specific, what you are getting at here is that pilo does not have recovery while roselia does, so you can keep the examples but add what I just said about recovery since thats the more important part, the thing about them taking entry hazards is somewhat arbitrary and not exactly particular to lapras vs them

add that you should utilize lapras's typing and ability to pivot into water attacks and opposing ice types such as aurorus (any move bar ancientpower)/vanilluxe/pilo's icicle crash

Team Options
========

  • U-turn mons like Primeape and Scyther. Volt Switch mons like Rotom-S and Lanturn. Lanturn also provides a nice Electric-type immunity for Lapras.
  • Rapid Spin or Defog support from the likes of Claydol and Pelipper keep Spikes and Stealth Rock off the field for Lapras. Claydol and Pelipper can also switch into the Fighting-type attacks that give Lapras trouble.
  • Bulky Poison-types, such as Garbodor and Vileplume, cover the Fighting- and Grass-types that hit Lapras super effectively. Garbodor also sets Spikes which wear down Lapras's switch-ins.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Block / DD / Waterfall / Rest with Hydration as the ability
  • Frost Breath kinda handles CM Mesprit and kinda Musharna
  • Body Slam hits physically frail Ice-types, such as Jynx and Cryogonal, and has a chance to paralyze any other switch-ins to Lapras. tbh I dont think this even deserves other options but thats up to you
  • Assault Vest with 252 SpD instead of Spe makes a very good Special Water-type switch-in despite lacking in offensive presence.
mention non choiced items, they're clearly inferior to specs almost all the time but being able to prevent your opponent from Tactical Loop Switching™ between lets say a lanturn and a steel/fire type is cool
maybe mention toxic to catch hariyama?

Checks and Counters

**Specially Bulky Pokemon**: Anything that doesn't get hit super effectively by one of Lapras's STABs and has a good SpD stat to back it up, such as Mega Audino, Musharna, and Malamar, can threaten it out by setting up on it or crippling it with status. mention malamar must be wary of signal beam; mention av hariyama

**Revenge Killers**: Lapras is slow and has a lot of weaknesses. Sawk, Tauros, and Electivire all force Lapras out with their STABs or coverage.

**Entry Hazards**: Lapras is weak to Stealth Rock and is vulnerable to Spikes. everything is weak to spikes, so idk what you're really trying to get at here. change this section to residual damage since thats more specific to lapras given that 60 base speed is pretty sub par and it will often have to take a hit before responding

mention ferroseed somewhere, resists hydro, takes very little from freeze dry, although 2hkoed by ice beam after some prior damage and must be wary of hp fire
Comments in bold, QC 1/3

I would reword the last point in the Overview, it's not really that rare to not OHKO neutral bulky targets. I'd more say its lowish SpA means it's reliant on Specs for maximum power.

Body Slam is a good move™

"Hydro Pump is Lapras's strongest Water-type STAB. Freeze-Dry hits Water-types, such as Lanturn and Samurott, which resist Ice Beam and Hydro Pump."

Maybe find better water types to include over Samurott since "252+ SpA Choice Specs Lapras Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Samurott: 148-175 (44.7 - 52.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock" and since rott doesn't run Grass Knot anymore its safe to say you don't need Freeze Dry to target it.

[OO]
Thoughts on actually slashing Frost Breath with Ice Beam, or keeping it as a slash in the last slot. I actually love Frost Breath on Ice Types, and i don't think there is a power difference between Ice Beam / Frost Breath though Ice Beam can freeze, and Frost Breath can miss. Also mention Ice Shard as it can revenge really low down faster threats (does 30-40 on Lilligant / Swellow) it sounds passible enough to keep in OO imo

I'm keeping Frost Breath OO. It's relatively worthless because of its mild effect on the CM mons it hits. Ice Beam has way more positives going for it, like you mentioned.

Otherwise implemented, GP ready.

Lapras's Ice-(RH)typing particularly spells trouble for Lapras it, as it will lose a quarter of its health every time it switches into Stealth Rock. A mediocre Speed stat also leaves Lapras wishing it could match the pace of other offensive threats, such as Mesprit, Primeape, and Kabutops. Lapras is also overly reliant on Choice Specs for power because of its low Special Attack.

Moves
========

Hydro Pump is Lapras's strongest Water-type STAB move (What does it hit? Or does it generally hit neutral targets hard? Either way, be sure to specify.). Freeze-Dry hits Water-types, such as Lanturn and Prinplup, which that resist Ice Beam and Hydro Pump. Ice Beam sports a higher Base Power compared to Freeze-Dry, but it loses out on coverage against Water-types. Hidden Power Fire is your the best option for Jynx, which switches into Lapras's STAB moves with ease, and it has the bonus of hitting Ferroseed harder than Ice Beam does. Signal Beam can be used if your team is weak to Malamar, with the added benefit of still hitting Jynx. Surf should be used in situations where Lapras can't afford to risk missing a Hydro Pump.

Set Details
========

Running a Modest nature with Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment allows Lapras to hit as hard as possible and to not get left behind by the likes of Aurorus and Cacturne. Choice Specs maximizes increases Lapras's Special Attack as much as possible. Water Absorb gives Lapras the option of switching into Scald and other Water-type attacks.

Usage Tips
========

Before deciding which coverage move to lock Lapras into, identify which foe that resists Lapras's STAB attacks is easier the easiest to wear down.

========

Pokemon with momentum-grabbing moves, such as U-turn Primeape and Volt Switch Lanturn, can bring Lapras in safely. Lanturn also provides a nice Electric-type immunity to Electric for Lapras.

Other Options
=============

Ice Shard can pick off some weakened offensive threats, such as Lilligant and Swellow, at low amounts of HP.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Revenge Killers**: Lapras is slow and has a lot of weaknesses, so revenge killers, such as Sawk, Tauros, and Electivire, all force Lapras out with their respective STABs or coverage moves.

**Residual Damage**: Because of its low Speed, Lapras will usually be forced to take some damage before it can get off launch an attack; add onto combine this with Lapras's weakness to Stealth Rock and lack of recovery, (AC) and you might find its HP in critical condition or completely depleted.

Klinklang can also take advantage of Lapras locked into Ice Beam or Freeze-Dry by setting up with Shift Gear, but it must be wary of switching into a Hydro Pump or Hidden Power Fire.

implemented and done. Snobalt is also becoming a favorite :)

in the future try to put a lot less emphasis on residual damage and slow momentum in general because those two things are super arbitrary and can apply to just about any mon, and having the details more specific to the mon in question is always preferred
