ORAS Ubers Ubers - Megamence Balance

Hey guys, I'm here for an Ubers RMT this time. I'm sharing a team I feel has been pretty successful, although I'm not as exprienced in Ubers as I could be so suggestions will be appreciated (I'll explain where specifically I want help).

Members of the team:

Yveltal @ Leftovers
Ability: Dark Aura
EVs: 248 HP / 212 Def / 48 Spe
Impish Nature
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Taunt
- Toxic

Since trying out defensive Yveltal in Ubers, I've grown to like it a lot as a tank that taunts, toxics, roosts, and foul plays threats and walls in Ubers. It's good for stopping hazard and move support from mons like klefki, ferrothorn, forretress, and more. The moves are standard, however, I am running 48 Speed to outspeed and taunt the standard geomancy Xerneas set, which will try to geomancy you. I find it kills momentum for my opponent, and I can then switch into Aegislash or P-don, who will enjoy taking unboosted hits from Xern.

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 184 HP / 28 Def / 252 SpA / 44 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Focus Blast

Xerneas is such a powerful setup sweeper with power herb geomancy, and in a balanced team I feel like I can weaken some of its checks through yveltal and my own pdon. The EVs are standard smogon; enough bulk to live +1 return from megamence, speed to hit 245 and outspeed slower mons. Moonblast is a strong STAB in conjunction with fairy aura, and Thunder and Focus Blast are for coverage against bulky mons like Primal-Kyogre, and steel types like Dialga and Ferrothorn to hit them super effectively.

aegislash.gif

Aegislash @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- King's Shield
- Gyro Ball
- Toxic
- Pursuit

Aegislash is a backup Xern check since pdon has no form of recovery and is needed to switchin on other threats in Ubers. King's Shield lets Aegi revert to it's defensive form and recover safely, as well as influence the attack drop if they make contact. Gyro ball hits xern and fast mons really hard, toxic hits incoming switch ins and pursuit hits Mega Gengar trying to switch out. I've never tried defensive Aegi ever, and it seems to do good, but I'm not exactly sure if I need it on the team. I feel like it checks so many specific threats, some of which I handle already and some of which I don't run into. Any suggestions if replacing him can help benefit my team defensively would be much appreciated.

giratina-origin.gif

Giratina-Origin @ Griseous Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 248 Def / 12 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Defog
- Will-O-Wisp
- Earthquake / Draco Meteor
- Roar

Giratina-Origin is a good check for physical threats like Blaziken and E-killer. I'm running investment in HP and Defense since this serves as a physical wall in conjunction with Yveltal and Aegislash, as well as being my defogger in case I get stacked up too much with hazards. WoW helps me cripple physical threats to the team like Arceus, EQ hits Pdon (so does Draco, I'm leaning towards draco since it hits more things in my opinion), and roar is my preferred phasing over d-tail since I don't like having to rely on the accuracy and typing to phase out, nor anything behind subs like Megamence.

groudon-primal.png

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Earthquake
- Thunder Wave

Pdon is a really good and reliable pokemon in the current Ubers meta, checking Xerneas and getting rocks up. It's really strong, even without investment, and can phase/cripple. I'm running a standard set yet again since I don't like getting fancy before I know a tier well; the bulk helps the defensive balance of my team and Pdon is so strong with investment, if you're not dual dance, you don't really need it anyway. Stealth Rock is self-explanatory, since I don't have any other rockers on my team. Roar phases, and just like with Gira-O, i prefer it over D-tail. EQ is strong STAB and thunder wave helps me cripple fast threats like Xern and Skymin, or offensive Dragons.

salamence-mega.png

Salamence-Mega @ Salamencite
Ability: Intimidate
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Roost
- Frustration

Megamence is a really strong setupsweeper, which I needed to break semi-stall and stall teams as well as potentially sweep. I'm running max-max with intimidate to help me setup and the speed and attack to sweep with only one DD necessary. Substitute helps me prevent slow walls from paralyzing, burning or poisoning me, DD is for sweeping potential, roost is to recover since I like being able to sub and regain health over coverage. Frustration as an aerilate boosted move provides enough power.

Further Notes:

I am aware that my team is not perfect and struggles, which is why I'm taking suggestions: Primal Kyogre is a huge threat upon switch in, since I need to switch into Pdon to neutralize rain boosted water hits, and if pdon is in on the first place i dont have a solid switch. Strong but slower wallbreakers like Kyurem-White are scary as well, since they can hit walls like aegi and pdon super effectively and weaken up my team. The team is mainly built with bulky mons, Salamence is my fastest pokemon before AND after mega evolution, assuming i dont get up geo with xern. I'm uneasy about aegislash sometimes since I feel it doesnt do much, replacement suggestions would help. I did pretty well with the team, but I'm not that high on ladder yet and I need it to be improved to get higher and stay higher. Feedback appreciated~

Hi Mirak,

I see that you have no Arceus on your team. Arceus is (literally) the very best defogger in the tier and thus would outclass Gira-O in that role on your team. You can adjust the typing based on what mons you are weak to.

Unfortunately, there is no single Arceus typing that resists all of Water-Electric-Ice so you may want to look for your POgre switch elsewhere.

Uh, I don't think Arceus is necessary on Ubers teams if it doesn't fit the team or is not needed, Idk about it as a defogger I'll have to try that out. Thanks!

Hi Mirak ! Your team is interesting and I can see your good thought process throughout the RMT. However, I would like to point out some weaknesses your team suffers from:

1) Darkrai: no Darkrai check and no sleep absorber on your team. It's a huge weakness because Darkrai can sweep your team with ease.
2) Ho-Oh: Specially Substitute + Dual STAB Life Orb set. Free switch in on Giratina-O and Aegislash and no solid check to it. Brave Bird is a very strong move and there is no Pokemon on your team who can take it well.
3) Sableye Mega: Totally Blocks Giratina-O, Aegislash, Primal Groudon, and Yveltal.
4) The weaknesses above lead to difficult match-ups versus Classic Stall, Classic HO, and Sableye + Ho-Oh teams. All 3 being very popular ORAS play styles and teams.

Fixes:

1) Lava Plume>Thunder Wave on Primal Groudon preferably with Relaxed nature. You don't really need Thunder Wave since Aegislash Pursuit traps Latis while Lava Plume instead would allow you to push out Mega Sableye and set up Rocks easier versus bulky builds.
2) Aegislash is perfect.
3) Refresh>Substitute on Mega Salamence. Allows you to check Ho-Oh by switching in easier since you can Refresh burns. It's close to Substitute concept wise but definitely more helpful for your team.
4) Choice Scarf set>Power Herb set on Xerneas. With sleep talk allows you to check Darkrai while it's a good set versus offensive builds in general.
Xerneas @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 32 Def / 252 SpA / 224 Spe
Modest Nature
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Focus Blast
- Sleep Talk
5) Dragon Tail>Roar and Earthquake>Draco Mateor for Primal Groudon on Giratina-O. There is no reason to run Roar since you have a solid answer to Xerneas(Aegislash).
6) Arceus Rock>Yveltal. Since you need a solid answer to opposing Yveltal, Ho-Oh, Mega Salamence, and Rayquaza. I would advice you to run the Refresh set since it's decent versus stall if used wisely.
Arceus-Rock @ Stone Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Judgment
- Refresh
- Calm Mind
- Recover
Hope I helped !

Thanks a lot, Ubers is not one of my strongest tiers haha. It's really nice to have gotten some improvements, thanks for the reply! I'll definitely make the changes
