Why can't you just make the two people with byes face each other? That would lead to a 1v1 finals

It's not "better" because you want to get byes out of the way as early as possible. You are viewing all byes as equal when byes in later rounds are more valuable compared to byes in earlier rounds.
 
Activity I guess? Twix is online but doesn't reply.

Also, if a Mega's ability is changed in Theorymon, how do we change it on the sim? I.e., Arena Trap Mega Steelix

Megas only have one ability, so it'll just change automatically when you go mega
