Introduction:
Hey y'all! This is my first RMT on smogon, and I wanted to improve a team I've already some success with. I haven't played in a while, so I don't know how much has changed in the OU tier.

The Team At A Glance:
The Gang:
Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Earth Power
Heatran is one amazing pokemon with great typing, a wide movepool, and good evs all around. I figured Heatran would be best utilized as a bulky lead, and I was right. Heatran is a great bulky lead that can set up rocks AND counter common leads like ferrothorn and skarmory. With Lava Plume, Heatran can potentially burn some offensive pokemon, which will greatly help the team as the opponent is crippled. I chose Toxic for the bulky pokemon that heatran can't touch, like slowbro. I had Flash Cannon before but I quickly changed to Toxic because I realized Toxic was a lot more helpful. Earth Power is for other Heatrans.
Sweeperino (Scizor) (M) @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Superpower
Here's the star of the show, Mega-Scizor. Most people don't realize how useful this guy is until they actually experience getting swept by this monster. In my opinion, Mega-Scizor is one of the best late game sweepers. Part of the reason I chose heatran as my lead was because I wanted to create a team around Mega-Scizor and Heatran pairs up insanely well with him. For Mega-Scizor to be a sweeper, Swords dance, Bullet Punch, and Bug Bite were moves I had to have. I chose Superpower as my last move, so I could take care of mons like other scizors, heatran, and chansey.
Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
- Knock Off
Landorus-Therian is another great pokemon that pairs up very well with Mega-Scizor and Heatran. At first, I wasn't sure how to utilize him as, but then I came across the Choice Scarfed Lando-T. With U-turn, Lando-T is a great momentum grabber and can really decide who wins the game. Out of all the pokemon on this team, my scarfed Lando-T is probably the most used.
Serperior (F) @ Miracle Seed
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Dragon Pulse
- Glare
At this point, I noticed that a had a big weakness to offensive water pokemon, like keldeo, so I decided to add this guy to my team. Before using Serperior, I was really unsure of how useful it would be on my team, but after using it, I realized Serperior was an amazing pokemon. Contrary Leaf Storm absolutely destroys some pokemon, and is the only reason I use Serperior. I chose hp ground for heatran, who won't see it coming. Glare is extremely useful as I can predict switches to other fast checks like tornadus or Mega Pidgeot. I added dragon pulse just for coverage.
Keldeo-Resolute @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 30 SpA
- Hydro Pump
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind
Next up on the team is Keldeo. Every team should have a water type mon (ok maybe not every team) and I decided keldeo would be the best to this team. With specs, Keldeo is insanely strong and can do tons of damage to most mons in the ou tier. Hydro pump, scald, and secret sword are necessary on keldeo, and I chose icy wind as my last move because it can take care of garchomp, dragonite, and the lati twins after the speed drop.
Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
-Earthquake Roost
After looking at my team, I realized that I didn't have a defogger or spinner, which is essential on most teams. I chose latios because I didn't have any dragon or psychic pokemon on the team and it's one of the best defoggers in ou.I chose earthquake as my last move for heatran and specially defensive tyranitar (after the switch in to draco meteor). Roost is more helpful than Earthquake as I already have enough checks and counters to Heatran and Roost can help Latios stay in the game longer.
Conclusion:
This was my first very successful team and I got all the way up to 1710 solely with this team. This team is very fun to use and very strong too. I want this team to have even more success, so please give feedback. Thanks for reading!
