This is my first RMT and also my first post on Smogon, so I was hoping you guys can help me out. I thought to build a team with a core that combines both the FGW and DSF type cores. I played a couple games with it and it's doing well but I've just laddered only up to 1300s. So here's the team.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
I was looking for Pokes that fit the types I wanted and I saw Ferro fit that bill with its Grass-Steel typing. Ferro acts as a wall and with its EVs it can switch into most attacks comfortably. It also sets up hazards in the form of Spikes to weaken down opponents. Leech Seed and Lefties gives Ferro decent recovery. Power Whip and Gyro Ball are STAB attacks and with 0 Spe IVs, Gyro can do the most damage.
Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Play Rough
- Superpower
- Aqua Jet
After the Grass and Steel typings are taken with Ferro, I looked for more Mons that could fill up the other types. Azu is a Mon that I haven't used and I took this as an opportunity to use it. Azu gives me a very strong physical attacker and it poses a threat to a lot of the metagame. A Choice Band with max Atk Evs and Huge Power makes Azu attack stat very high. Waterfall and Play Rough are the main STAB moves and hits very hard. Superpower hits Steel types such as Ferrothorn and Aqua Jet gives it priority.
Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
- Dragon Claw
With the previous 2 Pokemon taking up 4 types, Fire and Dragon are the only types left. So naturally the only remaining choice is Zard X. Having to Mega Evolve to get the Dragon typing is a bit annoying at times but when it does, this and the 2 Mons before forms a nice little core that supports each other's weaknesses. Zard X is a good setup sweeper that can clean up late game. DD boosts Zard's attack and speed allowing it to outspeed most things and kill them. Flare Blitz and Dragon Claw are STAB moves that hits very hard with Tough Claws boost. Roost is to recover HP after recoil or switching in on Rocks.
Raikou @ Assault Vest
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Shadow Ball
After the typing core is complete, I wanted to add more bulk to the team. Raikou isn't the most bulky Mon, but when it has an AV, it can can sponge some special hits that Ferro doesn't want to take. Raikou can also switch in to things that would want to Thunder Wave. TBolt is the main STAB attack, Volt Switch is also STAB but it also gives me switch initiative. HP Ice is for any Ground types that would want to switch in or stay in against Raikou, and Shadow Ball is coverage for things like Latios.
Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Knock Off
I wanted to form a Volt Turn core with Raikou so I chose Lando-T. Lando gets access to Rocks which is helpful for chip damage and it also can tank physical hits well due to its Intimidate, and it also can punish physical attackers with Rocky Helmet. EQ is the STAB attack, U-Turn is for momentum and completes the Volt Turn core with Raikou, and Knock Off is also useful to get rid of items.
Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Healing Wish
The last member is Latias. I wanted hazard removal and and Latias can do that while also hitting hard. Its natural bulk is also helpful if I wanted to take hits from things like Keldeo. Draco Meteor and Psyshock are STAB moves that can hit hard with the Life Orb. Defog is to get rid of hazards and Healing Wish can be used to heal Mons like Zard X and gives it another chance to sweep.
Yeah so that's my team. I would love it if you guys could help make this team better. Feel free to make any changes although I would like to keep the first 3 Pokemon. Thanks!
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
