ORAS OU Mega Metagross Balance (1540+), with a few updates

Hey guys, it's toenails_sauce, and here is my Mega Metagross balanced team. I'm on about 1540 ELO with no losses so far (sometimes cause of haxwins XD), but I won't have much time to climb higher on the ladder because I have to study for my finals soon -_- So I'm just gonna post this team cause Wynaut? (Btw I have a shitty GXE because I have "tested" some other teams, which didn't go very well.)

This team is very simple, being built only around M-Metagross. But this team is relatively successful so far. I don't find many major weaknesses either.

=== Look at this badass. High power. Great speed. Awesome bulk. He looks cool, too. I haven't used him in a while, so I had lots of fun using him again.
  • The provided EVs and Nature increase M-Metagross's power and speed. Speed is maximized to outspeed Keldeo and speed-tie with other base 110s.
  • Meteor Mash and Zen Headbutt are decent STABs, hitting Clefable and Keldeo, respectively.
  • Hammer Arm hits Ferrothorn and Scizor, Pokemon that resist M-Metagross's stabs.
  • Ice Punch kills Landorus-t, Garchomp, and Gliscor.

In reality, Keldeo may not be the perfect partner for M-metagross, but it checks Dark-, Ground-, and Steel-types that can cause M-Metagross some grief. With Keldeo's and M-Metagross's wallbreaking capabilities combined, I can easily pressure some teams. Keldeo also has Scald, which can come in handy when one wants to efficiently wear down the opposing team.

  • EVs and Nature takes advantage of Keldeo's high Special Attack and Speed.
  • Choice Specs over Scarf because I planned to have a wallbreaker, not a revenge killer.
  • Scald spreads burn and is a reliable Water-type STAB.
  • Secret Sword provides relatively good neutral coverage alongside Scald.
  • Hydro Pump is used if I want to do heavy damage over spreading burns. For example, it can make Keldeo win in a 1v1 scenario against M-Manectric before it evolves. Also, Hydro Pump can 2HKO any Clefable that is moronic enough to switch in to Keldeo.
  • Hidden Power Grass hits Slowbro and Gastrodon.

  • EVs enable Kyurem-b to outspeed positive-natured base 80s and have more power. Modest Nature is chosen to secure the 2HKO on Clefable from Choice Specs-boosted Ice Beam.
  • Choice Specs increase power.
  • Ice Beam is a hard-hitting STAB move.
  • Draco Meteor KOs Rotom-w and usually Slowbro, which are Pokemon Kyurem-b is meant to check.
  • Earth Power hits Heatran and Rotom-w hard.
  • Focus Blast shreds Ferrothorn, Heatran, and Tyranitar, making this set harder to wall.

===Thanks to -Latios-'s suggestion, I replaced Specs Kyurem-B with Thunderbolt Latios. This way, I can check Rotom-w and Slowbro even better. Also, while by team is not weak to Stealth Rock, I realized that Spikes can pressure my team quite a bit, so Latios definitely fits on my team as the Defogger. Finally, he ensures that Tornadus-T is not the only switch-in to Specs/Scarf Keldeo.

  • EVs and Nature make Latios fast and powerful. IVs minimize Life Orb recoil and Foul Play damage.
  • Life Orb increases power.
  • Draco Meteor is a nuke, destroying Pokemon that don't resist it, like Rotom-w.
  • Psyshock is a solid secondary STAB move. You can also use Recover.
  • Thunderbolt is for Slowbro and Skarmory.
  • Defog removes Spikes and Stealth Rocks.

  • Clefable NEEDS Leftovers and Magic Guard to check many certain Pokemon.
  • Calm Mind makes Clefable a monster. Nuff said.
  • Moonblast is its STAB move.
  • Soft-Boiled recovers Clefable's health by 50%.
  • Clefable has Flamethrower to kill Ferrothorn and Scizors, which can be relatively troublesome to my team.

  • Rocky Helmet punishes many physical attackers with chip damage.
  • Earthquake is Landorus-t's STAB.
  • U-turn is a momentum-grabbing tool which can also do some chip damage to bulkier Pokemon, like Rotom-w and Slowbro.
  • Stone Edge destroys birds.
  • Stealth Rock are the best entry hazards evaaar.

Tornadus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 96 HP / 160 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Knock Off
  • Assault Vest makes Tornadus-t check many special attackers.
  • 160 SpA ensures that Hurricane will OHKO a Keldeo from full health. Speed is maximized to outspeed scarfed Tyranitar and become very fast overall. The rest of the EVs are dumped into HP, improving Tornadus-t's bulk.
  • Hasty boosts speed, while not compromising the power of Tornadus-t's physical moves.
  • Hurricane is the main STAB.
  • Superpower hits Raikou, Heatran, and Tyranitar (basically most Pokemon that resist Hurricane).
  • U-turn gains momentum.
  • Knock Off cripples opponents for the rest of the match by removing their items.

So far, I have only found one MAJOR threat to my team, and it is CM Slowbro, both Mega and non-Mega. Not even Kyurem-b can stop it when it has once boosted. CM Slowbro can also beat Clefable with Psyshock after multiple boosts. So...what should I do? Replace Kyurem-b with Thundurus? I don't know if that's a good solution, because I haven't tried it out yet. But please help guys. I really appreciate it!

Oh yeah, almost forgot that defensive Talonflame is an asshole to my team. In the second replay, my Kyurem-B killed it because of a fucking crit, meaning that I truly needed Landorus-T beat it with Stone Edge. However, that isn't the most reliable way to deal with it, since defensive Talonflame usually carries Will-o-Wisp.
(Latios can't take care of it either)

Is hazard control that important to my team? Whenever I have a teammate with Defog or Rapid Spin, I don't use those moves in the majority of my battles. But I might need one, due to Kyurem-B's Stealth Rock weakness and hit-and-run nature. If so, how the hell do I fit one in my team??

Hi toenails_sauce . This is a pretty cool team, and grats on the peak. I like the usage of Lando-T as your slow pivot to bring in threats like Specs Kyu-B, Keldeo or Mega Metagross. Anyways, let's get into the rate.

- Just a minor nitpick, but I feel as if you should run 240 HP / 236 Def / 32 Spe Impish Nature on Landorus. This EV spread survives a Life Orb Draco Meteor from Latios (from full), which allows you to deal nice U-Turn chip damage and allow something like Tornadus to pick it off with complete ease. Also, the lack of speed EVs allows Landorus-Therian to gain the momentum on Lando's who run 8 Speed EVs. However, if you still want the 8 EVs, you could run 240 HP / 228 Def / 32 SpD / 8 Spe Impish Nature instead.

- You mentioned that you need a form of hazard removal due to Kyurem-Black, but I feel as if it still affects your team overall and not just this. Also, you've mentioned that this helps out against Rotom-Wash and (sometimes) Slowbro. I feel as if Latios could replace this Pokemon. It still checks the aforementioned Pokemon and it removes hazards for the team. Similarly to Kyurem-Black, Latios can also function as a nuke; being able to deal tons of damage when it switches in. Also, Latios has nice synergy with Keldeo as it helps with dark types and steels, while Latios helps with Mega Venusaur and Amoonguss. It also relieves some pressure off if Tornadus as the only Specs Keldeo switch in.

- I noticed that Nasty Plot Thundurus absolutely destroys your team, so I feel as if you should run 216 Atk / 40 SpD / 252 Spe Jolly Nature on your Mega Metagross to survive a +2 Leftovers Thunderbolt from full. Thanks to you running Ice Punch, you can successfully OHKO from full.

Manaphy can be a bit annoying now due to these changes, but it can still be dealt with by using Mega Metagross.

Yo sup bud you probably want hazard removal. If you don't want it then I would recommend that instead of specs Kyurem Black I would have life orb 3 attacks roost just for longevity
 
I have a team almost exactly like this but I have azumarill over keldeo garchomp over Lando T and air balloon heatran with magma storm toxic taunt and earth power over clefable
 
Bulky waters gives your team problems sorry if in spamming you in just thinking of stuff to say along the way (bars) but change Kyurem B to life orb bolt beam (fushion bolt with ice beam) and have earth power and roost. If you don't want earth power, change it to outrage max attack lonely nature max speed so it decimates stall. Instead of zen headbutt, you could have thunder punch to lure in those bulky waters and break past stall a lot easier so you're able to hit Skarmory and alomomola hope I helped :]

Wow, thanks! I will definitely replace Kyurem-B with Latios having Thunderbolt. I guess hazard control is good when playing against Spike-stacking teams, which can pressure me easily when I don't have a defogger like Latios. Your other suggestions sound great, too.

I may be leaning toward -Latios-'s suggestion, but LO Kyurem w/ Fusion Bolt seems like a somewhat decent choice. However, I wanted Kyurem-B to mainly be a Slowbro check, and I hate switching in on Scald. If Kyurem-B is burned, he can no longer check Slowbro. But thanks anyway!
 
Hey man, nice team. I have some fixes that might help your team. First of all I saw that Latios change that I agreed with because it helps mainly against Keldeo, but a thing that I dont like is the no recovery. Latios can switch in just once on a specs Hydro Pump with Rocks up, without considering Icy Wind etc. So my first change is to go for Recover over Psyshock. This could be considered a bad move to run Tbolt instead of psychic STAB, but tbolt still hits Keldeo and it has an important role against MSlowbro and Suicune. I chose to keep Tbolt and remove Psychock because it helps against Special Defensive Skarmory, which is a threat for the majority of your team. Mega Venusaur might be a problem if you don't run Tornadus-T and Psyshock Latios, so as you said I removed Tornadus-T for Scarf Tyranitar. It is a change that helps mainly against Gengar, beeing able to trap it, with the Sand up Mega Venusaur isn't that big deal, because it cannot recover + Mega Metagross should be enough. Other options that you might consider are running Thunder Wave on Clefable, which helps against fast threats such as Tornadus-T with the Orb set and Mega Alakazam, Fthrower is helpful against Scizor, which is why I dont suggest to go for Weavile instead of Tornadus-T, Scizor and Rocks weakness. CM Latios is another option that you could try, beeing able to threat pretty badly MSlowbro and Suicune, also without Tornadus-T you dont have any Rocks weak + hazard arent that big problem.
