Introduction

Hey guys, GhoulRuler here. This is my first time playing the doubles tier in general, having had limited experience, I thought I would add my own personal flare to the tier and opt for a monotype team as my introduction into doubles.

While playtesting in the tier, I played around with a variety of OU doubles cores playstyles, taking inspiration from a number of doubles and VGC players. In the end I shifted from balance to incorporate Mr Mime over Clefairy / Clefable as a niche follow me user with Wide and Quick Guard support which ultimately fulfilled my creative outlet for the team and made the team more smoother as a result.

This was a personal challenge in using only Fairy type pokemon and ultimately was one I personally enjoyed.

A special shoutout to MegaCrasher for sharing my battles on his youtube channel :)

Anyways here is my team, Peak and my following thought processes.

Azumarill formed half of my dual Huge power core, one of many possible win cons and finally was an effective early lead to apply pressure, making the opponent waste resources which Mr Mime and Togekiss cam take advantage of with Follow me and Guard support respectfully.

azumarill.gif
aromatisse.gif

My second choice was Aromatisse. Aromatisse was the teams dedicated Trickroom user and healer in one and allowed the rest of my force to take advantage of Trickroom when needed.

Similarly Aromatisse also allowed me to turn Trickroom off against specific Trickroom teams which often made it an effective wincon vs dedicated teams. Aromatisse was a very important team member making the team effectively immune to taunt and encore alike making it a prime force vs Gengar and Perish Trap teams.

Moonblast was chosen over dazzling gleam to do as much damage as possible, however after testing I may try Dazzling here.

azumarill.gif
aromatisse.gif
mrmime.gif

After that I added Mr Mime. Mr Mime was one of my teams dedicated redirectors and supplied the team with guard support.

With Filter to lower the damage from super effective moves so it could stick around for longer and Safety Goggles, it was a nice choice vs Amoongus leads and allowing Mawile / Azumarill a free chance to set up by getting up Guard Support.

Triple Guard support allowed my partner to take advantage of anti status vs Amoongus and Wide and Quick guard respectfully which helped against Landorus and Fake Out users alike.

Being taunt bait isnt an issue when Aromattise can make all team members being immune to taunt and can switch in if a move needs to be used.

I realized that with my dual Huge Power core I needed a special attacker. I opted for Sylveon to not only take advantage with trickroom but also to assist as a possible wincon applying huge amounts of pressure with Azumarill and Mawile alike.

azumarill.gif
aromatisse.gif
mrmime.gif
sylveon.gif
mawile.gif

Mega Mawile was my mega of choice. Given the synergy she has within Trickroom teams alike, Mawile often was the teams major wincon and took advantage of the support from all team members. Mr Mime providing guard support, Aromatisse keeping Mawile healthy, getting Trickroom up and Sylveon removing Heatran with HP Ground.

Under Trickroom, Mawile is a huge force to be reckoned with. However outside of Trickroom, with two Redirectors and Guard support, she can still apply a huge amount of physical pressure.

togekiss.gif

Togekiss was added to finish the dual redirector core and added some much needed coverage into the mix.

Originally Thunderwave was chosen over Fireblast however Ferrothorn in many match ups was very difficult to remove and ultimately there was few situations where Thunderwave would assist given Trickroom and Redirection.

EVs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Def
Adamant Nature

- Aqua Jet

Opting for the simple but effective DoublesOU 2015 spread, this azu I feel is the best at a glance. One of the teams many wincons and had a very positive match up against a variety of pokemon. Not much to say really given its the norm.

Offensive Calculations

252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 12 HP / 36 Def Hydreigon: 400-472 (236.6 - 279.2%)

252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Salamence-Mega: 152-182 (89.4 - 107%)

252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 200-236 (108.6 - 128.2%)

Defensive Calculations

60 SpA Thundurus Thunderbolt vs. 212 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 152-182 (75.2 - 90%)

252 Atk Parental Bond Kangaskhan-Mega Return vs. 212 HP / 4 Def Azumarill: 153-180 (75.7 - 89.1%)

252 Atk Choice Scarf Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 212 HP / 4 Def Azumarill: 109-130 (53.9 - 64.3%)

252 SpA Rotom-Wash Thunderbolt vs. 212 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 158-188 (78.2 - 93%)

252+ Atk Aerilate Salamence-Mega Return (Flying) vs. 212 HP / 4 Def Azumarill: 160-190 (79.2 - 94%)

252+ Atk Life Orb Bisharp Iron Head vs. 212 HP / 4 Def Azumarill: 113-134 (55.9 - 66.3%)

GhoulHealer (Aromatisse) (F) @ Leftovers

EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Heal Pulse
- Disable / Protect
- Moonblast

Went with the basic Doubles 2015 Spread for Aromatisse puerely because it was the best choice here. Maximum HP EVs with 200 Defense EVs and a Relaxed nature ensure that Aromatisse survives a Life Orb-boosted Iron Head from Adamant Bisharp, which boosts its chances of getting Trick Room up.

Relaxed nature with 0 Speed IVs was used so that Aromatisse can function better under Trick Room. The rest of the EVs were be dumped into Special Defense so that Aromatisse could take special attacks better.

Disable was chosen and was used in many battles to pressure set ups, discouraging the usage of protect, forcing Scarf Lando and other choice locked pokemon out immediately and forcing switches, allowing for super powered attacks on the following turn.

Disable was particularly effective under trickroom and in many situations allowed for various team mates to get a free turn, this was a late change after testing.

Defensive Calculations

252 Atk Life Orb Bisharp Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Aromatisse: 307-367 (75.6 - 90.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Return vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Aromatisse: 229-270 (56.4 - 66.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

100+ SpA Aegislash-Blade Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 56 SpD Aromatisse: 302-356 (74.3 - 87.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Aromatisse: 181-214 (44.5 - 52.7%) -- 24.6% chance to 2HKO

36 SpA Thundurus Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 56 SpD Aromatisse: 126-148 (31 - 36.4%) -- 67.2% chance to 3HKO ( Support Thundy )

Best Situations to use Aromatisse

  1. Your opponent's only answer to Trick Room is Taunt/Encore.

  2. You can somehow create an either/or scenario against an adversary wherein they either stop Armomatisse from setting up trick room at the cost of losing a critically important mon/not targeting a major threat to their team. I.e. hard attrition warfare . “congratulations, you just killed an Aromatisse, but lost your Kangaskhan.”

  3. The opponent doesn't double into it. Seriously. Nobody knows their rolls against this thing due to many varied EV spreads and people just rarely KO it from the start. Stupid, but useful.

mrmime.gif

GhoulMime (Mr. Mime) (M) @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Filter
EVs: 184 HP / 172 Def / 52 SpD / 100 Spe
Bold Nature
- Quick Guard
- Wide Guard
- Follow Me
- Safeguard ( Wanted Room for Trickroom, but couldn't find the room )

Generation 6 introduced a big change to Wide Guard and Quick Guard that made running a set like this possible. Mr Mime can now use both of them indefinitely with no chance of failing, even if I switch between them which creates many mind games and free turns for Azumarill and Mega Mawile.

This comes up surprisingly often with protecting Mawile and Azumarill from spread move or a priority move. I can't tell you how many times I've stopped a Talonflame from finishing off a partner with Brave Bird, then stopped a Earthquake or Hyper Voice immediately after that.

I chose Safeguard for against Amoongus and lastly follow me so I could achieve Clefairy's old job creating Set up opportunities for Azumarill and Mega Mawile.

Because Mr Mime has access to Follow Me in his pool as well as the Guard Moves, Mr. Mime always finds ways to be valuable no matter what the situation. He is the surprising MVP of the team even though he is incapable of scoring knockouts.

I did try and find room for Trickroom on Mr Mime but space was already an issue.

*(Note: If I suspect Taunt being an issue and I really need a support move to be applied, I can switch my partner into Aromatisse to get that all important support move before taunt can be applied due to Aroma Veil, something that helps in specific situations-)

sylveon.gif

GhoulBishop (Sylveon) (F) @ Pixie Plate
Ability: Pixilate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 92 HP / 116 Def / 252 SpA / 48 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 30 HP / 0 Atk / 30 Def / 30 SpD / 30 Spe
- Hyper Voice
- Shadow Ball
- Protect
- Hidden Power [Ground]

Opting for Aaron Zheng's (Cybertron) Sylveon was the best choice to go along with the rest of my offensive core. Pixie Plate was chosen over specs so I could smack Heatran with HP Ground and Shadow Ball for Aegislash who try to wide guard Hyper Voice respectfully.

Sylveon was often a wincon in many matchups in and out of Trickroom.

mawile.gif

GhoulEmpress (Mawile) (F) @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: EVs: 252 HP / 204 Atk / 52 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Protect
- Fire Fang
- Sucker Punch

Standard Trickroom Mawile, I opted for adament over brave simply to be faster then Opposing Mawile in all situations since I can turn Trickroom on and off as desired and have redirection and guard support. This was a recent change that came in handy and won games on its own with the many Trickroom teams around on the ladder.

-Survives 252 SpA+ Heat Wave from Heatran (84 - 99.3%) and from 44 SpA+ Charizard Y 15/16 of the time

-Thunderbolt from 96 SpA (or less) Thundurus is a 3HKO.

-Outspeeds anything with a 50 base speed or greater in Trick Room.

While obvious, always beware of the following :
*(Note: If there's a Bisharp in Team Preview, almost never lead with Intimidate Mawile +Trick Room Setter since Bisharp can single-handedly beat many Trick Room Pokemon after a +1 attack boost with Iron Head, Sucker Punch, and Knock Off. Try to get in Mawile before the opponent has Bisharp on the field to get the Defiant boost, and -this applies to Milotic as well-)

togekiss.gif

GhoulKnight (Togekiss) (M) @ Rocky Helmet / Safety Goggles
Ability: Serene Grace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 236 HP / 192 Def / 80 SpD
Calm Nature
- Fire Blast
- Follow Me
- Air Slash
- Protect

The listed HP and Defense EVs allow Togekiss to survive a Life Orb Bisharp's Iron Head, letting it redirect the move once from full HP while the Sp Def investment lets me take on Flash Cannon Aegislash. Togekiss's decent base 120 Special Attack means that Air Slash still hits decently hard without investment.

Equipping Safety Goggles allows Togekiss to safely redirect Spore from Amoonguss or Breloom, as well as ignore the effects of Rage Powder, making it a perfect answer to both, as Togekiss resists their STAB attacks and can hit them back with a super effective Air Slash while Helmet is great for punishing many of the physical pokemon in the tier.

I opted for Rocky Helmet in the end for opposing Mega Kangaskhan.

I'm glad you finally posted your team! Based on experience, this is truly an outstanding Fairy monotype Double OU team. Good Job! No real changes needed imho!

i'd suggest putting iron head>play rough on mawile for more coverage, i also recomend double trick room to make this a full trick room team, but that's your call, then you can put 0 speed ivs to the members in my opinion

edit : in the case you do, go for vgc sylveon :200 def, 56 hp, 252+spatk and mr mime gets balk

i might consider the mawile thing but about double trickroom i have tried it before and it really is not necessary cuz mr.mime needs those move to give full support and the Sylveon well i personally made my own spread for it and this vgc spread ik its good but sometimes unique wins the battle
Edit: i still need the speed they have on them i tried having 0 ivs on them but it just wont work mr.mime needs that speed to be able to outspeed brelom which is a pokemon that spams spore to put ur team to sleep and the other can out speed when trick room is not in play. Trust me ik my team i have been using it quite some time now

Hey nice team man..I guess its not easy to peak with mono fairy so gratz, but just a few things-
1)On azu, knock off> Play Rough for general better coverage and it also helps against follow me jirachis and amoonguses.

2)Safety goggles on togekiss easily to deal with opposing amoonguss better, dunno about mr.mime as it is already faster than breloom so you can try mental herb on it.

3)As sylvi is going to spam hyper voices anyways so I guess specs> Pixie plate if you don't value protect that much
Btw what do the EVs do?

Best of Luck :o) Hope I helped

Just an FYI, monotype doubles is a tier that I and some of the dou and monotype communities play, you can learn more about it here. I also believe the monotype forum will be hosting a doubles tour in the near future if you're interested. I can't say I agree with your decision to limit yourself to one type in a tier where you're allowed to use everything rather than just play mono dubs, but I'll keep this rate within your restrictions.

This'll become full trick room, it's probably the only way you can semiviably play fairy in dou.

Use knock off>play rough on azu, you have enough fairy coverage as is and would much prefer hitting steels and getting more neutral coverage after a BD.
Give Aromatisse Sitrus Berry, it's more efficient than lefties since it heals you instantly and you're probably not gonna survive more than 4 turns.
Use Diancie>Mr. Mime for a second trick room setter that provides essential offensive coverage rather than dead weight support.
Give Sylveon Choice Specs, it gets a lot more damage output and lets you deal meaningful damage with your coverages.
I adjusted the sylveon and togekiss spreads for better efficiency.

I hope we see more of you in the monodubs and dou community!

im actually going to try this but the fear of multi hit is there such as hyper-voice and earthquake i actually have no need for two trickroom pokemon but like i said ill try this out

Sorry i tried but i just can work without the guards they are essential in this team there way to many multi hit these team just got destroyed by multi hits helping hand explotion helping hand hypervoice and helping hand earthquake lol

Wide guard is a viable move, but not on a mon like Mr. Mime, the only fairy type wide guard user. It has 0 offensive presence, so if your opponent isn't using a spread move it's just gonna sit there. You also already have a second follow me user in togekiss. Two redirectors gets excessive, especially when you're overlapping weaknesses from mono fairy.

That's why the best way to do mono fairy without drastic changes to your current team(switching to mega diancie twind hyper offense) is Trick Room, which lets you attack and ohko your opponents first without worrying about any spread moves. Full TR works best when you get a second TR set after the first round ends, so adding a second setter isn't a problem, especially when it's one as useful as diancie.

that is why i lead most of the time with mime and azu to get it set up and get rid of those multi hitters you have no idea how many time this two get me an early win on a match

New to VGC and first post :)

I am just getting in to VGC. Thinking it would be best to learn by playing a pre-built team I stumbled upon this one. The Pokémon and the strategy appealed to me :) So I spent a few days breeding and built the team on my DS.
Even though I'm new, I figured I'd share my findings:

Mr. Mime:
You can only get Follow Me on to Mr. Mime by transferring it through XD. So while Smogon may be fine with it; in VGC it's both very hard to get and not legal.
So I opted for Fake Out as his fourth move. Which works out very well indeed :) I changed Mime's nature to Impish. Not that he's going to do much damage with Fake Out, but every little bit helps I guess.

Aromatisse:
I use Disable over Protect.

Other than that I run the team as you suggested.

Basic strategy:
I open with Mr. Mime and Azumarill.
Mr. Mime uses Fake Out or one of his screens to protect Azumarill.
Azumarill usually takes a hit.
Azumarill uses Belly Drum, uses his Citrus Berry.
Mr. Mime switches out for Aromatisse.
Azumarill uses Protect.
Azumarill takes out one Pokémon with Aqua Jet.
Azumarill takes a hit, often nearly faints but usually survives.
Aromatisse uses Trick Room.
Aromatisse uses Heal Pulse on Azumarill.
WIN!

This strategy might completely break down once I face tougher opponents. But so far it's been doing very well.

Fun team GhoulRuler! :)

HermitTurtle, this is not a VGC team, but an Doubles OU team, thus this is not a team that you should be learning from or even practicing from. And note that these two metagames are quite different from each other. For instance, the potential to have six Mons is drastically different from just having four Mons. Plus, the current VGC makes use of Mons from Ubers; Doubles OU bans Uber Mons. Thus, I highly recommend that you use an actual VGC team to learn the current VGC metagame. Nevertheless, you're always welcome to the Doubles community.

I guess that shows how new I am ;)

Still, I'm having fun with the team and learning a lot. But I will take your advice and look for a team designed for VGC.

Thanks for the reply.
