Enchanted Items [Now Multibility]

After playing a lot of Enchanted Items on ROM I think that if any mon needs to get banned its this

490M.gif

Manaphy @ Thick Club
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Rest

This thing just sets up in your face and gets a free 100% heal with rest and hydration, also scald in the rain hurts very bad.

Yes, I do agree. Check this replay: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/rom-enchanteditems-7367

so whens the soul dew smeargle ban
I and a few other people don't really think Smeargle is that bannable because there are quite a few ways to counter it. To name a few, run a Magic Bounce Pokemon like Skarmory to deflect back any hazards / statuses, lead with Magic Bounce Azelf and Taunt it, Prankster Thundurus, Prankster Hippowdon or something with Roar, the Pokemon and abilities you can run to counter it are endless, you just need to think outside the box!

I do agree with Manaphy being a problem though. But Spandan, Scizor doesn't wall Mana- oh you deleted the post. never mind then

I know you have a screenshot xD Put it up for the most idiotic post of the year lol
(I'm a human; The stupidity in me is inevitable)

Try running Delta Stream/Desolate Land, a Water immunity, Unaware Water resist, faster Electric/Grass-types maybe? On paper, it looks like Manaphy can be handled. Maybe it sets up in your face and gets free recovery, but this is a young meta, and I'd wager that every team made for it thus far has a glaring weakness to something -- doesn't make those things ban-worthy. In that replay posted... I mean, no shit it swept, Zangooser's team had two water resists, one of which could narrowly 2HKO it.

Relax. Let the meta develop, take stock of Manaphy's counterplay, test those checks/counters/builds out, and if it STILL seems too hard to stop, THEN call for a ban.

http://rom.psim.us/battle-enchanteditems-7382 (The Ferrothorn was Mold Breaker)

As shown on turn 3, the ferrothorn's spikes got bounced back, even though it was mold breaker. This shows that mold breaker does not ignore abilities from items, probably due to them being considered items by the code, not abilities.

Try to save the replay instead of posting the battle link. Here's the replay, for those interested: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/rom-enchanteditems-7382

WIP; I did as much as I could but there are still some abilities that have no Pokemon next to them, which is why I am posting this earlier than I had in mind, so that you guys can suggest who to add!

My aim is to have at least one Pokemon for each viable ability, so help us meet that aim n_n

30/05 - added Lordmagecar's and Akumeoy's suggestions.
30/05 - instead of labelling unviable abilities as unviable, i've just removed them. thanks to darvin for spotting some of them
31/05 - added the following: Ferrothorn to Statics (great way to cripple physical attackers), added Alomomola to Primordial Sea.
31/05 - removed "outclassed by magic bounce" from aroma veil since mold breaker doesn't affect aroma veil unlike the former, ty to scarfnaut
28/07 - updated to vr

Alright guys, slaking is viable ;o
With trace, it gets rid of truant! Of course, it only has one ability, which is your opponent's original ability, which is likely their worse ability. Additionally, trace is really glitchy and will keep copying the opponent's ability, so slaking can be manipulated by your opponent really easily. Still, it is defenintely a lot more viable than in regular play. Do you guys think slaking/regigigas will affect the meta in any way? Also, slaking appears to have the side effect of breaking the game xD
http://prntscr.com/ba8c5u

Also, referring to the post above, add ttar as a viable sand rush/sand force user, remove everything from the mold breaker category, as mold breaker as an item doesn't work, add kyurem-black as a viable protean user, as it really appreciates stab on coverage moves like earth power and fusion bolt, add bisharp as a viable weak armor user, it can sweep really easily with the +2 attack and +1 speed given to it by weak armor. I've ran all of these and they definitely deserve to be listed :)

  • I wouldn't consider Bad Dreams a viable option for Gengar or Breloom. Its damage output is just not big or consistent enough to compare with other abilities the two could run. Also, Gengar's Hypnosis is just not accurate enough to be worth running without No Guard.
  • Adaptability is basically a Life Orb's worth of damage output, but only on STAB moves; anything that wouldn't be viable with a damage-less Life Orb in standard certainly won't be viable here.
  • Chlorophyll could have Ninetales as a user. Notable over natural-Chlorophyllers-plus-Drought in that it has a Fire STAB and Nasty Plot.
  • Delta Stream should have Zapdos at the very least -- good check to Flying-types, and with an Electric STAB, threatens Manaphy.
  • Download could be a nifty option on Baton Passers -- Scolipede comes to mind.
  • All Drought and Drizzle users should be noted as 'niche' options, as outside of specialized weather teams they're worse than Desolate Land and Primordial Sea.
  • Really a lot of mixed-bulky Pokemon with reliable recovery are noteworthy as Flame Body users, especially ones that can take Earthquakes and U-Turns and such. Cress, Hippowdon, and Lando-T come to mind as blanket physical checks.
  • Doublade isn't really a viable Flash Fire or Levitate or Regenerator user, as it needs Eviolite to be worthwhile.
  • Add Togekiss to viable Gale Wings users.
  • Goodra and Vaporeon already have a natural Hydration, so IDK why they're listed with Payapa Berry.
  • Add Talonflame to viable Infiltrate users. Revenges Substitute users.
  • Ferrothorn is a solid Intimidate user, blanket-checking physical attackers between that and its chip damage. Notable for being a solid stop to Kyub.
  • Add Empoleon to the viable Levitate users. I could see using it if my team needed that. Plus it's a Levitating Steel-type that Mold Breaker EQ users don't like switching into.
  • Excadrill has better things to run than Magic Guard -- it resists Stealth Rock, and the only status it will usually take (burn) already wrecks it, and Spikes weakness is handled by Levitate.
  • Add... I dunno, Rotom-Wash to the Magnet Pullers. It's nice for trapping Skarmory and non-moldy Excadrill.
  • Add Manaphy to the viable Motor Drive users.
  • Dragonite has waaay better things to run than Own Tempo.
  • Without the ability to use it alongside Toxic Orb, I'm not sure that Poison Heal is all that viable any more. Magic Guard would be more reliable and versatile.
  • Marvel Scale shouldn't be on anything that really minds status conditions -- so, definitely not Bronzong. Try it on Magic Guard Clefable though.
  • Quagsire and Clefable, as Unaware users, should be added as viable Regenerators. Muk has no business being there -- keep in mind that it got Regen as a theorymon alongside Dark/Poison typing, and the ability to hold an Assault Vest, and it's still not very highly ranked.
  • Tyranitar should be lised under Sand Rush users, not Sand Stream users.
  • Jirachi, Entei, and Tornadus-T are viable Serene Grace users.
  • All of those Sheer Force users, save maybe Gengar and Raikou, have more useful abilities to run. Don't list 'em.
  • Why is Tyranitar listed as a Solid Rock user?
  • Anything viable with a boosting move and Baton Pass should be listed as a potential Speed Boost user, as should Stored Power users like Latias and maybe Clefable???
  • Breloom has no business being listed as a Technician user -- it already gets Technician.
  • Add Hippowdon as a Thick Fat user -- lets it handle Fire-types better, and maybe put in work against physical Ice-types.
  • I know Serperior should be a good Tinted Lens user, but really, anything with really good offensive stats should be listed as one.
  • Slowbro is a viable Unaware, Cress and Suicune are probably viable Unawares, maybe there are some non-Water-types that go on there but I haven't thought of any yet. Maybe Skarmory.
  • Archeops isn't a viable Vital Spirit user here, since it's still saddled with Defeatist.
  • Empoleon should be listed as a Volt Absorb user, Skarmory should too, uhhh there are probably others.
  • Rhyperior might be worthwhile as a Water Absorber.
For the ones I didn't list, I either thought that what you had was fine or I didn't think there was anything worth using the ability on.

Actually... Compound Eyes seems like really good ability for Hustle Durant.
If we really didn't want to boost oponents accuracy, Compound Eyes is enouth to boost accuracy for (after Hustle Boost) 80% accurate moves.
And when ability clauses enters to metagame rules, Compound Eyes Durant looks like fantastic pokemon for your team.

Rock Slide after Compound Eyes and Hustle boost, have 95.76% accuracy with x1.5 boost to physical atack.

If you really want No Guard, them Stone Edge is much better option for you.

Durant @ Dragon Fang (Compound Eyes) / Adamand Orb (No Guard)
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- X-Scissor
- Rock Slide (If Compound Eyes) / Stone Edge (If No Guard)
- Superpower

Why you would prefer Compound Eyes over No Guard?
Imagine oponent who use Will-o-Wisp. With No Guard on Durant, he always will burn you, but with Compound Eyes on Durant, oponent have still 15% chance to miss his status.

Jolly nature - because you have anyway really hight amound of physical atack stat.

okay. all i know is that dnite is likely going to be banned if ei becomes omotm. not because of aeri, but because protean literally makes it near unkillable and unbeleivably powerful, and has no checks in the tier. with DD, roost, espeed and waterfall it actually gets near perfect stab coverage, or it can really run any 3 combo of attacks(i like fire punch, espeed, and SuperPower) and still be banworthy in my eyes. the fact that ice type moves are no longer 4x super effective really affects how to kill dnite. as status/boosting/hazards are REQUIRED. and even then aren't guarenteed as a "safety net" i think protean dnite might be BETTER then aeri in this meta, and it shocks me how little people run it. ive personally never had problems with manaphy, as its either too slow, or my unawares eat it for breakfast.(unaware MG clef is a threat tbh) but i can see a ban in the future, but for now, i think dnite needs to be looked into first.

After this discussion, we can see that you gave answers to all of the problems that I showed, but that leads to my main point: I'm not saying that stall can't prepare for threats, I'm saying that stall can't prepare for all threats. After Gothitelle ban, people usually say that stall is a pretty match-up based playstile in OU, but it's effective because there's a limited number of effective stallbreakers. In EI, the heavy and diverse amount of wall/stallbreakers makes it extremely hard if not impossible to prepare for all that can used to break stall. Each Mold Breaker mon requires a diferent way around them, and Protean/Kyu-B are also a problem. I'm not here calling for a ban on everything, I'm not a guy wanting this meta to be a stall fest. I'm just saying that although you'll find a answer to each stallbreaker in the game, the fact that almost all pokemons can become one using Mold Breaker/Tinted Lens/Protean just makes it really hard to succed using extremely defensive playstyles.

When using illusion it does not give an option to order pokemon before the match so it has to use the order made before the game began.

I know that stacking a Regenerator with another Regenerator only does what one Regenerator would heal, but what happens if you stack 2 abilities like Filter and Solid Rock together?

I know that stacking a Regenerator with another Regenerator only does what one Regenerator would heal, but what happens if you stack 2 abilities like Filter and Solid Rock together?

This isn't true actually. The Reptile and I tested this yesterday. A lot of abilities double stack, meaning you can have two of the same ability and their effects will occur twice. We tested regenerator with Tangrowth, and when switching out it would gain ~66% health back every time. Ridiculous if you ask me. A few other things double stack, but I'm not sure if they are relevant anymore considering having two of the same ability was never intended.

Also yes, having Filter and Solid Rock together works, however it only saves you another ~7 or 8%. I could be wrong about this though.

Some threats I have found/seen so far:

Refrigerate: Electric types like Jolteon love this ability, and of course Kyurem-B appreciates it.
Protean: We all know what this ability does, however some mons really benefit from having a different typing. Kyurem-B gets stab on all of its physical moves now. It's physical movepool isn't large, but STAB fusion bolt, rock slide, and zen headbutt wrecks all but a select few (like Heatran, but just run Earth Power I guess). Other abusers include Latios, Dragonite, Starmie, and Porygon-Z.
No Guard: This ability can be detrimental in the right hands. Whimsicott gets no miss Grasswhistle (and Leech Seed!), Gengar gets Hypnosis, and anything that hates missing would love having this ability. I'm looking at you Tornadus and Durant.
Speed Boost: Do I really need to explain why this ability is good? Sylveon, Swoobat, any psychic type with Stored Power. I'm sure there's more I haven't thought of.
Weather Abilities: Desolate Land + Growth is amazing on mons like Venusaur. Luckily there is refrigerate and gale wings to hold a lot of these sweepers back, because they can go 0 to 100 real quick.
Intimidate: Landorus-T loves this ability surprisingly. -2 attack on anything except Bisharp? Great physical mon check.

Those are all of the obvious ones in my opinion. Can't wait to see what other creative sets you guys come up with.

Thank you. I was just asking since the original post said Regen+Regen shouldn't stack in the Q&A section.

So i found this set to be working pretty well and after sd there isnt a lot of mons that can check it ( run zone with it to trap skarm )

Excadrill @ Dusk Ball
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
- Protect

Really hope this become the new Other metagame of the month , great meta ( damm got talent 6 votes ahead )

After playing a lot of Enchanted Items on ROM I think that if any mon needs to get banned its this

490M.gif

Manaphy @ Thick Club
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Rest

This thing just sets up in your face and gets a free 100% heal with rest and hydration, also scald in the rain hurts very bad.
I don't see why it should be banned. It has plenty of viable checks/counters (lati@s, Azelf, thundy, desoland tini/heatran, dragonite...) and gets eaten for breakfast by setup sweepers. To me, baton pass is much more concerning as the way its coded right now allows you to pass speed+another stat (dusk ball, haban berry) with actual reliability. Baton pass was banned from passing speed+stats a reason, and I think that it's still valid here.

A few objectively non-viable abilities you can mark accordingly:

Banned under the Moody clause, I presume?

This is false, the moody clause does not ban wave incense, it bans moody. The team validator is coded to not take into account the effects of items in bans unless the meta code specifically bans them. This is the same reason why you can have the speed boost item+sd+bp but cannot have the speed boost ability+sd+bp.
