Suggestions for Pokémon Showdown

I along with a few friends really enjoyed playing challenge cup. We were sad when one day it suddenly was no longer there. Now I am sure I am not the only one who misses it. Can we please bring it back? Send this thread post to anyone you know that wants challenge cup to be brought back.

You and your few friends can enjoy it on the Smogon Tournaments server.

I don't know when this was added, but it's a feature.
Sorry, I must have not made myself too clear D: I know /rank user, tier (e.g. /rank InfernapeTropius11, anythinggoes shows my anything goes rank) but was wondering if shortcuts for the "tier" part could be added (meaning /rank InfernapeTropius11, ag would show my anything goes rank)

We need friend button. A button to send friend request to any user. We also need a way to see opposing Pokemon's min/max speed stat, possible abilities and held item (if they are found out) even when the Pokemon is not in the battlefield. Helps strategize, as you don't have to put all this on paper in order to remember this. It can be very useful with abilities like levitate and held items like balloon, and forgetting that enemy Pokemon can switch to these to avoid your attack is stupid thing.

The friend button idea has been suggested, and I believe it is in development.

Your latter idea probably won't be accepted because you can't do that on-cartridge.

Even the displays don't work on cartridge- they are just there to make it more playable. I don't see anything inherently wrong with them.

E: the reason is is that if you were paying attention you could write it down, but it's annoying to do so in practice

I've been thinking, how about some new advanced search features for spectating battles?

Like, since we display rank now, we could add a "search by rank" option: like, "search for battles in-between __ and __ rank". Then you could watch low or high or whatever-level play you want!

It would also be fun if we could search for battles with specific Pokemon in them. Like, say, look up Gengar, and you'll get a list of all the battles with Gengar in them. It could be useful to learn how certain Pokemon are usually used in-battle.

It would be great to have abilities, items and moves hyperlinked when using the /data or /dt commands, similarly to Pokemon. The hyperlink, of course, would link to the Pokemon Showdown! Pokedex page, which would provide extra information on that ability / item / move like it usually does.

This way users can get more information on a specific move or ability like how much health is recovered in different weather conditions for Synthesis; data that couldn't be found by just doing /data synthesis.

Just a slight thing that would be useful and it would lessen the questions asked in Help about moves, abilities, etc.

+phoopes: hey so here's a suggetion
+phoopes: I had made a suggestion a long time ago about implementing a command
+phoopes: that does /learn in other gens
+phoopes: and I found out today that there is, like /rbylearn
+phoopes: so that's cool
+phoopes: but when you do "/help learn"
+phoopes: it doesn't mention that you can do /rbylearn and other gens
+phoopes: so adding that to the /help would be neato

EDIT: Slayer told me to do a pull request on GitHub but I forget my password so yeah posted it here

I want to see Showdiwn use the Hit Points or HP bar instead of percentages. I also want to see more avatars for showdown

The Hp bar is basically unplayable at the same level. You have to look at each individual pixel, while the percentages auto counts for you. Believe me, it's the same information, just laid out in a way that pixel estimating isn't an important part of battling.

Is there any way to display EV investment on the hover of our own mons? So that you can just hover instead of wondering "HOW much bulk do I have on this again?" And when doing damage calcs, you don't have to click out of the battle, into the teambuilder, into the tier folder, find the team, and click the mon to see its EV spread. It just seems like it'd make things more convenient when calcing or just casually laddering up, and we know our own investment so it doesn't really break anything. It could just be a small parenthetical next to the stat, something like, "216 Atk / 300 Def (252) / 241 SpA (4)..." or something like that.

A command idea I had that would be fun to use and would come in handy (in my opinion, at least):

/mega [pokemon]:

It would list the stat changes between the pokemon and its mega form(s). Example:

/mega charizard

Mega Charizard X:
Ability: Tough Claws
HP Atk Def SpA SpD Spe
+0 +20 +0 +50 +30 +0

Mega Charizard Y:
Ability: Drought
HP Atk Def SpA SpD Spe
+0 +46 +33 +21 +0 +0

Otherwise, it would just say that the pokemon doesn't currently have a mega evolution.

If possible/anyone feels that it has a use, the command could be reorganized into just being able to compare the stats of any two pokemon, like /diff Empoleon Greninja

When in ORAS battles, is it possible if we could not see the opposing person's team of pokemon, like in random battles? If I was playing in real life next to someone, I wouldn't know which pokemon they have. It just makes sense...

P.S. Made account just for this suggestion

If you're making a suggestion for the actual games, we don't handle that.

If you're speaking of team preview on PS!, that's already a thing for majority of the formats.

What about a new tier?
In the tier, your pokemon can come on the battlefiled with imperfect HP,PP and with status condition.
In the tier guts pokemon can be both burnt and with a item. 1PP trum card can be used as stallbreakers.
low hp custap berry pm can ensure stealth rock
but poison heal leftover gilscor maybe too gusting.

First off, that wouldn't be an official tier, that would be an om. http://www.smogon.com/forums/forums/other-metagames.206/

Secondly, I doubt you'd get much interest, as 4 pp is far too little. The entire match, more or less, would be struggling, making it basically regerator: the metagame. You are welcome to submit it, though, and see if it gets approved- I just wouldn't get my hopes up.

Quantum Tesseract pretty much summed up what I was going to say, but it would be really worthwile if you looked through some of the pages in the thread to see what kind of suggestions you can post here--this thread isn't for metagame / room suggestions, the OP mentions the latter not the former, but yeah, this isn't the place for metagame ideas. You can post it in that link that QT posted, although feedback isn't very fast there, so you'd be better off bringing the idea up with the Other Metas room on Pokemon Showdown. Good luck n_n

The probability mechanics need to be redone. There is no way *10% chance this* or *30% chance this* is actually what the mechanics are putting out, hax is way more prominent in Showdown than in the actual game or over Wifi.

Less time to take your turn. You should see the number of Tournament players disqualified for abusing the amount of time they have, shorten it to 1 minute and things would go quicker and smoother.

nope, it's just RNG, pure luck. the programmers aren't plotting some sort of conspriracy or something with hax, you're just having bad luck.

There's something I've kind of noticed in the teambuilder, and it's that the "popular" and "usually useless" move and item lists seem to be fixed. This sometimes leads in that certain options that are acknowledged as good and somewhat popular choices on some Pokemon, such as Reflect Type on Latias, end up being in the latter list.

What about ocassionally updating those lists, based on usage stats, and maybe making them vary among Pokemon? I can understand in that popular moves/items for Pokemon depend on tiers and that may be why it's not implemented, however.

The truth is things are not random in the slightest, RNG's always follow trends, but obviously we will never know exactly how because we can't see how they programmed it, but you can tell the immediate difference when playing Showdown compared to the actual games when it comes to the RNG that is implemented for battle mechanics. Maybe it was to make it more balanced, i don't know, but there is definitely a difference, and it needs to be changed.

If you can prove that there's a definite difference between the mechanics of Pokemon Showdown and the mechanics on in-game cartridges, you're welcome to do so in the Bug Reports thread. The programmers of Showdown are trying to make the battles on there emulate in-game battles between players as close as possible, but they won't just make changes to it, unless they know for certain the changes will make things for the better.
