I play as a Mono Water Gym Leader for a Facebook group. I always wanted a Rain Dance team. This is My Rain Dance team and Im posting it so I can get your guys advice and criticism on how to make it better.

politoed.gif

Politoed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 164 SpD / 96 Spe
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Encore
- Toxic
- Protect

Politoed is usually my Lead Pokemon. To get Rain Dance set up instantly. Then I may follow up with Protect to scout out my opponents first move. Or Encore if I am sure they will lead with Hazards or Inflict Statuses or Set Ups.

kingdra.gif

Kingdra @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 28 HP / 252 SpA / 228 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Draco Meteor

Kingdra I chose as one of my Special Sweepers. Its Swift Swim ability makes it so Its Speed is increased drastically under the effects of Rain. Its Only Super Effective Weakness is 2x Dragon and 2x Fairy which makes it a very good addition on my team due to the fact it is Neutral to Grass and Water.

swampert.gif

Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Rain Dance

Swampert I chose for my mega evolution. I felt it fits perfect on the team do to the fact that when mega evolved it gains Swift Swim as well. Its bulky and immune to electric attacks so its a good Switch in. I gave it Rain Dance just in case Politoed is KOd.

kabutops.gif

Kabutops @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet
- Low Kick

Kabutops is a monster under the Rain. Although it usually gets 1hko. It serves as my physical sweeper. It can easily 1hko most pokemon I bring it out to and it also has Priority Aqua Jet.. I dont know how i feel about Low Kick. Im currently testing it out to see how I feel about it. But I feel as if its a perfect Pokemon for my team

keldeo.gif

Keldeo-Resolute @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind
- Scald

Keldeo's Hydro Pump gets a boost under the rain. It usually 1hkos everything with that Hydro Pump. The only thing that risk it getting hit is when I either miss or I cant Ko the opponent. Keldeo is a very powerful Special Sweeper. I dont know how I feel about having 2 of the same type moves on him tho.

lanturn.gif

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Thunder Wave
- Scald
- Heal Bell

Lanturn serves as a cleric on my team. It can also take hits very well. I usually bring it out when an Opponent is about to hit me with an Electric attack. Heal Bell to heal Status changes to my team. It doesnt do much damage but I feel its a good Bulky pokemon for my team

Thats my team so far. If you have any suggestions on making my team better im open to ideas. Thank you :)

Hi! This team is looking very solid, and the only recommendation I can immediately think of is a bit of Fairy coverage. Empoleon is a bit of a strange 'mon to throw into such a well developed team but it does resist fairy and tote STAB Steel attacks and appreciates rain support. Although, admittedly, Swift Swim Kabutops and Swampert already answer this problem (because fairies don't have physical defense) with quick speed and physical attacking prowess.

Another big threat to the team is Mega Venasaur, whose Thick Fat allows it neutrality to Ice attacks - and already it can shrug off Earthquake and Water attacks with relative ease. I'd suggest HP Fire/Psychic > Hydro Pump on Keldeo since Scald already lands massive damage in the rain AND scorches burns at a 30% ratio.

Mega Charizard Y also slams the team if it switches in on Politoed. In this case it can either Solar Beam OHKO the whole team barring Lanturn and Kingdra (who it can still hit hard with Dragon Pulse and the rare Earthquake). Lanturn is probably the best switchable answer you have to it, but still Volt Switch isn't much for coverage when Lanturn has mediocre SpA and Charizard has bulky SpD. Bright side is you can neatly Volt Switch into Kabutops's hard hitting Rock STAB, but Zard still outspeeds and OHKOs with Solar Beam. Weakness Policy Sturdy Carracosta with Aqua Jet can be an amazing answer however, and an awesome early or late game sweeper (plus, Stealth Rocks!).

As you did not create a set for your final suggestion, I made one for you.

Carracosta @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 84 HP / 84 SpA / 88 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Waterfall

Basically the same as Kabutops, but with more checks, and more defense. Also that coveted Mega Zard Y counter. Pretty easy to set up rocks, STAB all around.

So Timid WP Sturdy Carracosta > Adamant Life Orb SS Kabutops

Please consider my suggestion,
Snortops

I disapprove of this set as you have 84 spa investment, but all of your attacks are physical.

Stone edge is SpA, and Carracosta already has pretty good Atk, so I didn't change that, feel free to use this set however you want but this is how I would personally play Carracosta in this team

Actually, Snortops , Scorpion056 is correct. I didn't even catch the SpA EVs instead of Atk ones myself when I looked. Stone Edge is in fact a physical move, it just doesn't make contact with the enemy. I like the set, just attack EVs instead of SpA. They don't serve a purpose in the set since no attacks are using it

EDIT: Actually, I disagree with the Speed a bit too.

At base 32, I personally don't see what in OU it seeks to outspeed, but seeing as this set is kind of designed as either a bulky setup mon or a bait to sweep with Aqua Jet, I'd suggest a lack of speed investment entirely. It's just not doing anything. Instead I'd say Impish>Timid with 84 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Def / 88 SpDef. This increases damage output + physical bulk and, well, continues to outrun just about nothing but Ferrothorn and Shuckle. The rest of the set is solid imo

You make some good points...heres a new set:

Carracosta @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 84 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Def / 88 SpD
Impish Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Waterfall
Sorry, I'm new to the competitive pokemon scene, so my apologies if I make a noobish mistake like that =D

Since this has finally been moved to the right section, I'll give it a rate:

  • politoed.png
Damp Rock --> Eject Button, Protect --> Rest, 248 HP / 164 SpD / 96 Spe --> 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe ; Damp Rock is banned in Monotype so that's the only reason not to use it. Eject Button lets you get a free switch into one of your rain abusers once taking a hit. You don't have any explanation for your spread so I recommend just investing in HP and Special Defense and using enough Speed for uninvested base 60's, unless you can provide a reason for your spread and I'll address that. Politoed doesn't get any recovery so Rest is the only option it has to replenish its health so it can stay healthy and keep setting up rain.
  • kingdra.png
228 Spe --> 252 Spe ; You want to be as fast as possible in rain and outspeed as many Pokemon as you can and you don't lose much by running max Speed so that's the only recommendation I have for this.
  • kabutops.png
Low Kick --> Stealth Rock ; You don't have any hazards on your team and the easiest way to fit them is by putting them on Kabutops. You don't have a secondary rain setter so replacing Rain Dance for Stealth Rock on Mega Swampert is not ideal. Spamming rain boosted Water-type moves is mostly what you're gonna be doing, so Low Kick really isn't that useful outside of hitting Ferrothorn, which you can threaten with Keldeo.
  • keldeo-resolute.png
Icy Wind --> Hidden Power Electric ; Your team already threatens Dragon-types quite a bit with Kingdra so Icy Wind isn't going to be necessary. HP Electric will help you hit Water-types such as Gyarados, and prevent it from setting up.
  • lanturn.png
    -->
    rotom-wash.png
; Rotom-W has better Defense than Lanturn and access to Will-O-Wisp, making it the superior physically defensive pivot with a semi-reliable recovery in Pain Split, but it's still more than what Lanturn has. You lose your Electric immunity and Heal Bell user, but a Swift Swim Water team prefers constantly keeping up momentum, and using Heal Bell with Lanturn prevents that. You already have an Electric immunity in Mega Swampert though so you're not that worried about Electric-type attacks.
Water has a lot of good Pokemon and so many options such as Azumarill, Manaphy, Crawdaunt etc. but I didn't want to change your team so much. Feel free however to try out new Pokemon if you want and decide what works best for your team.
