Gen VII: Pokemon Sun and Moon Discussion MKII

I'm all down for new Pokemon, potential new Alolan variations and possibly Mega Evolutions, but I hope they also show off this regions' villain group. We haven't have a mention of anything like that over these information dumps, so I'm curious if they're holding out to build them up or something like that.

Here are 5 main reasons why this Pokedex is fake:

1. Mokurou, Ashimari and Nyabii are confirmed trademarks and have been suggested to be the Grass, Water, and Fire starters.

Mokurou is likely Moku (Tree) + Fukurou (Owl)

Nyabii is likely Nya (Meow) + Hi/Bi (Fire)

Ashimari is likely Ashika (Sea Lion) + Marine

Every upcoming generation of Pokemon, fans always have a badly poorly drawings of starter Pokemon unconfirmed by gamefreak. Guess what? Most people are always fooled by them. Remember fake starters from the previous regions? http://www.serebii.net/fakes/ Stop getting fooled by them!

2. Too much ice. Alola is a very tropical region, there is only one area that contains frost. If we have approxmently 100 new Pokemon, don't expect more then 5 ice types. Back in D/P, there was only one area containing magma. Sinnioh only had 5 new fire types.

3. The guardian Pokemon are not in order. Pokedex goes in order of where you find said Pokemon so the "Psychic Tapu" should be before the "Fire Tapu" as we already know you got to Akala island second. Besides, I doubt they all have "Tapu," in their name. Seems quite lazy if you ask me.

4. Marshadow is trademarked. If the name were meant to be Malshadow, it would be written マルシャドー (Marushadō). マーシャドー is clearly meant to be Marshadow and is even trademarked as such.

5. Gigareki is trademarked. My favorite one to talk about. Gigare means Giant in Latin. The "ki" at the end comes from "tiki." Since Zygarde arleady the order Pokemon based on the protector of earth. Gigareki is said to be large or small wooden or stone carving humanoid containing the power of earth.

The other legendary Alola Pokemon names are based in Latin as well.

Solgaleo’ suggested a lion-based appearance (with ‘leo’ being Latin for lion). Naturally ‘sol’ is Latin for sun, giving the Pokémon a clear relation to the solar object.

About Lunala, "Luna’ was the obvious word to pull out, as it is the Latin word for moon. "ala" Latin for winglike anatomical process or part, especially of bone.

Why is everyone keep getting fooled by this nonsense? Remember the first fake Alola Pokedex leak back in February? "Gen 6.5":

To 100% confirmed the fully evolved starters and Pokedex to be a counterfeit, I"ll see you all this Friday.

Those are the Japanese names for the starters that we already know. Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio.

The rest of the list is all conjecture and disproves literally nothing.

I kinda distrust the whole leaked 7th-gen-pokemon-list thing mostly due to the lack of possible event legendaries. I highly doubt gamefreak is gonna stop making those elusive and highly spoileriffic movie material.

#4 does. It's not conjecture, it's a fact of Japanese romanization and reveals that whoever created it fell for the over-stereotype that L and R are interchangeable in Japanese (they're much more fluid than they are in English, but they aren't exchangeable arbitrarily).

And as someone else mentioned, it could very easily be a localization name change. Like Emonga to Emolga, or Genosect to Genesect.

Marshadow to Malshadow would be a straight-up mistranslation then (the localization team falling for the same mistake and thinking it meant something it did not). If you play Yu-Gi-Oh, you'll find loads of examples just like this (e.g. "Hero Arrive" being misread by the official translators as "Hero Alive", when it is clearly supposed to be the former).

Please STOP talking about the pokedex leak. Right now there's nothing worth mentioning about it.

I'm kind of surprised they revealed a grass, water, fire, and electric trial leader, just for how basic those types are. I don't think we've had that combo together since Gen 1, not counting Elite Four members.

Makes me wonder if they are tied into Z-stone acquisition, like instead of gym badges they hand those out. It's likely just a coincidence, but the four revealed Z-moves are also the same as the trial leaders.

They also could be a reference to the first generation games.

The first Black and White games also technically count, although you cannot battle the Gym Leaders of all four types in the same savegame.

Bless our poor mod's souls.

One thing I'm anticipating more clarity on: how Zygarde and the Alolan Legendaries stories tie together. I neither want Zygarde shoehorned in the story nor Zygarde to overshadow Solgaleo & Lunala. Although it doesn't seem to be the case, right now I feel Zygarde would work best as a post game side quest.

Since Z Power starts with Z, I imagine Zygarde ties into it somehow.

I wonder though...

It makes sense they would go with "basic" types with the introduction of a new challenge concept. I don't think they were gonna go with any of the specialty types (ie Dragon), especially if there are only 4 trial leaders.

That makes me wonder if the kahunas have type specialties or not. Would be awesome if they didn't to be honest!

I need more info on trials, kahunas, and Totem Pokémon.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but your description of gigareki sounds exactly like the strange souvenir. And gigareki is trademarked, so most likely a real Pokemon.

Guess the Pokedex leak is completely fake then.

Also, Fire / Ghost Marowak? That seems like a nice nod to the Gen 1 games' Marowak Ghost in Pokemon Tower.

EDIT:
Evil team also seems to have been revealed. Looks like a band of pirates similar to team aqua.

Morning everyone,
Serebii jost posted the scans of the CoroCoro on their twitter.
Spoilerinos in here:
Sandcastle 2-stage
Alolan Meowth & Marowak
2-Stage Fish/Submarine-ish
Pre-evo for Bewear!
A sand castle evolutionary line

...I freaking love it!
Also, another Water-type that I just am not that interested in using. Come on, Game Freak, you are otherwise hitting it out of the ballpark with this generation!
