ORAS OU Weather Duo Team

Hi guys and gals and this is my Weather Duo Team. This team includes 2 weathers, which are Sandstorm and Sunny Day.

charizard-mega-y.gif

First on the list, we have Charizard-Y. I chose this beast because of his Base 159 Special Attack, his STAB Fire Blast with a base stat of 110, boosting it further to 2HKO most Water types. Roost is needed if it gets caught in Rocks. Because of Zard's Fire Blast in the sun, it can take out and switch into stuff like as Bulky Mega-Scizor, Leech Seeder Ferrothorn, Mega Metagross, and take out Swampert with Solar Beam since he has to use Rain Dance to Outspeed Zard-Y.
Charizard-Mega-Y @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Solar Power
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Solar Beam
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Roost

venusaur.gif

Chlorophyll is one of THE best abilities and Venusaur, one of the most iconic pokemon has it. I didn't give Venusaur the mega and replace Zard with Ninetales is because it would remove Venusaur's ability Chlorophyll, Ninetales would need an extra turn to setup Sunny Day, and Venusaur wouldn't benefit from that. Chlorophyll boosts its speed to 550, Giga Drain to heal damage from Life Orb, HP Fire for type coverage and the additional power from Sunny Day, Sludge Bomb for STAB Poison, Growth for setup for additional Special Attack.
Venusaur @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Giga Drain
- Growth
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]

victreebel.gif

Another Chlorophyll Pokemon to round up the first half of this team. Victreebel is basically a duplicate of Venusaur and thats why I chose him. He is another counter to Steel types ex. Metagross and Rapid Spinners ex. Excadrill and Starmie. Weather Ball for type coverage and counter for Grass and Steel types, Solar Beam for Grass STAB. I didn't choose Giga drain because of the lower base stat. Growth for the Extra Special Attack, Sludge Bomb for Poison STAB. So basically a Duplicate of Venusaur.
Victreebel @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Weather Ball
- Growth
- Sludge Bomb
- Solar Beam

Now for the Sandstorm half,

tyranitar.gif

Tyranitar gives excellent type coverage for this team and adds 2 threats to itself. Lopunny and Earthquake users. This guy is basically a suicide setter. Here are some dmg calculation I did:
52 Atk Mega Lopunny High Jump Kick vs. 248 HP / 80+ Def Tyranitar: 684-808 (169.7 - 200.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 Atk Gliscor Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 80+ Def Tyranitar: 162-192 (40.1 - 47.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 0 Atk Gliscor Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 80+ Def Tyranitar: 320-380 (79.4 - 94.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Hippowdon Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 80+ Def Tyranitar: 186-222 (46.1 - 55%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0 Atk Hippowdon Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 80+ Def Tyranitar: 186-222 (46.1 - 55%) -- 61.3% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Technician Breloom Mach Punch vs. 248 HP / 80+ Def Tyranitar: 395-473 (98 - 117.3%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
You can see there that T-tar has a rare chance to setup stealth rock. Pokemon with 252 Ev and Adamant nature that have Earthquake, T-tar has no chance to setup stealth rock unless the opposing pokemon go for DDance, Swords Dance, Nasty Plot, Calm Mind and etc. I merely chose this guy because of his ability.
Tyranitar @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 80 Def / 180 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Ice Beam

excadrill.gif

I chose this Driller because of his moves, such as Rapid Spin to allow for Zard-Y to switch in.
The combination of Sand Rush and Swords Dance makes one hell of a sweeper. Earthquake for STAB Ground, Iron Head for STAB Steel, and Swords Dance to setup. Being able to 2hko any neutral mon makes this beast a threat on the team.
Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Swords Dance

hippowdon.gif

Not being able to make of the last slot on my team, I decided to put in a mixed wall since I had no Physical Wall or no Special Wall. I chose Hippowdown over Gliscor because of Ice types being able to 1hko him and because of his Base Defense stat, his moveset, and his decent Base 112 Attack, being able to do some decent damage with Earthquake combined with Sand Force. Stealth Rock to fill in the role of Tyranitar having a rare chance to set them up, Toxic and Slack Off to stall. Threats such as Ice Types ex. Cloyster, Common Grass Types ex Mega Venusaur and Solar Beam Charizard Y can take out Hippowdown in an ease.
Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Force
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Toxic

Well that about wraps it up for my team! Feel free to make comments on it. Hope you enjoyed it!

Cool team you got there! Weather duo is such a quirky and cool conecpt that doesn't see much daylight these days, as its hard enough to build a single weather team rather than duo. That being said the team needs some cleaning up before it can be super successful!

Firstly! Keep in mind that Mega Charizard Y can only summon 5 turns of sun at a time. While for a sun team i would normally say this is unnacceptable and tell you to add ninetales to your team, since this is a dual weather team i think you can get away with it. However, this means that your two sweepers in Venusaur and Victrebell are going to fighting for very limited sun time, and will rarely get to do anything productive in the same sun cycle. In addition, Victrebell is the pinnacle of redundancy alongside Venusaur, and while redundancy is not always a bad thing, in this case it doesn't work out as with the conflicting weathers and with only five turns of sun it will be very rare that victrebell will be able to work alongside Venusaur well. In that case, you should look for a pokemon who doesn't need the sun to be effective but can still put it to good use while also supporting Venusuar with its typing. I think a good option for you here is Heatran. This pokemon has good defensive synergy with both of your sweepers (Venu and Drill) and has the fire/steel typing that can help it function in both sun and sand. Honestly, the set you use is completley up to you here, but since you are replacing an offensive pokemon a more offensive set with Overheat/Magma Storm/Fire Blast, Earth Power and Solar Beam with full SpA and Spe investment and a timid nature. The last moveslot is up to you, but common options are taunt/toxic for stall breaking, or flash cannon/stone edge/ancientpower for extra coverage. Air Balloon might be ideal here as you already have a bit of earthquake phobia, but another fun option to throw in here is choice scarf, as with full speed investment (really only 228 is even necessary) it outspeeds Mega Lopunny, a base 135 pokemon that could wreak havoc on your team, and KO with Overheat, or even a weaker move if the sun is out. If you prefer a defensive set let me know, as there are some good ones, but i think you will like that Scarf set :)
Looking down the rest of your team, I like the bulk on tyranitar, his job is clearly to stay alive so investing into the defenses makes total sense. However, in this generation hippowdown is the superior weather setter. It is important you max out your turns of weather this gen and hippowdown simply has the superior bulk and typing, as well as access to recovery, to keep it alive longer. Tyranitar really fears fighting type moves and replacing the victrebell slot with heatran gives your team three fighting type weaknessess as well. You can go with the exact same set on hippowdon as it is very effective and give it smooth rock instead. Another benefit of switching to Hippowdown is that it optimizes your slot efficiency, as you already had HIppowdon on your team and this way you can cover both of the roles with one pokemon moveslot. With that free slot, your free to chose whatever pokemon will shore up any holes on your team the best. I think a good choice for you would be Latias. I personally suggest Latias because it has access to the highly coveted Healing Wish, which can give your two wincon sweepers a new lease on life and win you a match. Round out the set with Psyshock, Draco Meteor, and Thunderbolt, giving your team a way to take out the two biggest threats to your current team, water types and fighting types. Life orb would typically be used on a set like this, but since the sand might be out, leftovers is a good idea for a held item. the EV spread should go something like 72Hp 184Spa 252 Spe with a timid nature, but if you feel like you need more power you can go max Spa. A timid nature is a good idea to get off a healing wish as fast as possible, and of course to win speed ties with latios (beware scarfed variants though.

Some potential problems on this team are special walls, as pokemon like Chansey and assult vest Goodra don't take a lot from most of your pokemon (even latias will have trouble breaking Goodra). Excadrill beats both of these pokemon though, (watch out for Goodra's flamethrower!) but if you feel like you don't have as many physical attackers you can consider a mixed set on Venusaur as growth also gives you a swords dance boost as well. You will find that out with trial and error though.

Hopefully i have given you some helpful advice that makes your team more successful! If you have any questions or concerns about my suggestions let me know!

Summary Changelist

Victrebell --> Heatran

item: air baloon/choice scarf
nature: timid
EV: 252SPA, 252+Spe, 4HP
Moves:
Overheat/Magma Storm/Fire blast/Lava Plume
Earth Power
Flash Cannon
Solar Beam

Tyranitar--> Latias

item: leftovers
nature: timid
EV: 72HP 184Spa 252+Spe

Moves:
Draco Meteor
Psyshock
Thunderbolt
Healing Wish

Change item on Hippodown to Smooth Rock

1. Smooth Rock Tyranitar => Choice Band Tyranitar
Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Superpower

This makes Tyranitar effectively a stallbreaker and provides extra synergy with Charizard Y, Tyranitar can now effectively trap Heatran and Chansey, which will become easier to deal with.
EV investment means you can still Pursuit trap Lati@s and live to tell the tale, and eliminate a threat to Venusaur doing so.
Right now SpD Heatran and Chansey wall your entire Sun-side, the synergy described here will give you tools to do something about it.

2. Victreebel => Clefable
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave

As mentioned above Victreebel was rather redundant, bringing in Clefable provides you with two things: a Stealth Rocker and a means to deal with Mega Lopunny, which is a problem if Sand is not up.

3. Hippowdon => Keldeo
Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 1 Atk / 30 SpA
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind
- Hidden Power [Electric]

Your team is fast in weather but lacks priority, which means Bisharp is a threat if left unchecked. Hippowdon doesn't put as much pressure on your opponents team as Keldeo does in this regard in my opinion. It also outspeeds Mega Lopunny and Scarfed Landorus-T.

4. Venusaur: Growth => Sleep Powder
This is a minor suggestion and probably more based on taste and playstyle, but Sun is not going to be up for long, so Growth is only beneficial if you can get 3 turns of Sun with your Venusaur, otherwise you'd get the same (or better if he brings in a mon with an unbroken Focus Sash) effect by attacking twice (unless your opponent has no good counters and/or a team that gets outsped by Venusaur outside of sun, in which case Growth is better), so I'd prefer to play with Sleep Powder.

I respect your advice, but I haven't used Hippowdown as much as a wall when I was battling. I never switched him in. And yes, Zard-Y does have summon 5 Sun Turns instead of 8, but when I switch him in I use him at the same strategy as T-tar when he is about to die. That gives me advantage to send out Victreebel on a Grass/Steel/Water types to take out walls or Physical Ground type threats. I might replace Hippowdown with Heatran following your advice on it. And since Steel has an immunity to Poison, I might try and make him a wall. Anyway thanks for the advice!
EDIT: Ninetales isn't that affordable since it doesn't have good base stats. I still prefer Zard y in this case
