It's honestly just ripping off a 70s Mexican soap opera that pulled that off, it basically retconed 6 months of an arc as a coma induced by an accident(retconing almost 110 episodes worth of investment for the audience), the coma lasted for 3 years and alluded a time skip as well as a new evil bitch character introduction as a villain to the narrative, but dude it was as hammy as ridiculous in execution, many shity coma theories are actually ripping this off.

Want to know a good cartoon with a beautiful morale that actually deals with a somewhat crapsachine world? Sofia the first.

Yes I actually sat through it, and God Lord it was amazing how they not only managed tasteful cameos in a funny and even epic way but also dealt with some heavy stuff while still dealing with the problem in a sensible way for kids... I take my hat off, never since DoReMi I saw a show treating kids like smart beings despite the sappyness.

People that outgrow a franchise but still like elements from it often try to "augment" elements of it to justify themselves to others, or just believe pokespe is the best thing ever...

Just take a look at bullshit like reborn, I can use reborn to cut pineapples for crying out loud, the edge hurts and its fake difficulty is stupid both in concept and execution.

I think that this is so users can experience a meta without the Pokémon in question. For instance, if everyone is using Choice Specs Pawniard to check Florges, then is the meta better without the need for Choice Specs Pawniard on every team?

I personally enjoy Judge-A-Pokémon because it's cool to have people share their opinions on why they like/dislike a certain Pokémon. Interviews with staff members less so (but then again, where else would that type of thing go?) because you kind of have to know the staff member in question to appreciate the article.

- I haven't been on the forum in forever, so I wanted to go to the places I usually chatted on and catch up.

- I guess that's fair. Maybe they could make separate ladders in that case. Florges as a top threat is one odd hypothetical thing, but Specs Pawniard is just...

- I used to like it until I realized I didn't care. I don't care about any of these people I don't know, and I especially about the staff members who I also don't know- but also am told that they're important anyway just because they chatted slightly well enough to become a voice or something- like it'll be something on a college application. I don't hate the staff, I'm just saying I don't really like how I'm supposed to view them as important people I'd want to read entire paragraphs about their thoughts on stuff. I'd probably care if it was somebody like... Junichi Masuda's wife or a satire of Ash finding out about Sun and Moon or something like that. Either way, meh.
 
Castform is the best Pokémon in existence. Lucario, dragonite, and garchomp are way overhyped (Design wise). Steel and dragon are some of my least favorite typings. I got a ton of unpopular opinions. This thread was made for me

I also like Castform but I think it needs some sort of buff. Like in addition to Forecast changing its type also maybe have it increase its stats, like increasing its Special Attack and Speed by 1.5x.
 
I really like Castform as a concept as well! The only issue is its subpar stats and turn of set up which hinders it, even in regular gameplay (although I had decent success with it in ORAS Main Game). A lot of Pokemon with Forme changes I like (Castform, Darmitian-Zen etc) but are held back. I agree Lucario and Garchomp are overhyped to such an annoying level it's kinda like Charizard but idr many people hyping Dragonite design wise. I assumed a lot of people found it plain / not threatening.
 
I don't think that Charizard is all that great design-wise, despite how much I'm a sucker for dragon-based designs. Yeah, I use it in playthroughs of the first gen games and the remakes, but mostly for how powerful it becomes late game. The Fire starter I prefer more is Infernape in Gen IV.

Regular Charizard kind of has the weakest design among dragon-like Pokemon. Mega Charizard Y fixes plenty of its issues, however.
 
M-Charizard X is better. It's not even close. A fierce looking (almost with a cyber theme) dragon with fire jaws against a dragon with ragged wings and weird, out of place head spikes. Not to say Char-Y is bad, but I feel that thinking Char-X is better is unpopular.
 
Here are mine:

Whitney is a cakewalk, even with Cyndaquil/Quilava/Typhlosion

Mega Evolutions were pretty weird [even though some looked cool!]

Gen 3 isn't the best generation, even though i like it, there's just something i really don't like about it, but i can't put my finger on it.

Zubat is cool

And that's all i can think of.
 
Whitney was more difficult when you don't know it's coming (basically a blind run) so you don't expect the terror that is there. If you know it's coming then there are so many ways you can prepare (Drowzee Hypnosis, Machop Trade, Intimidate, Fire Blast TM if Cyndaquil/Quilava, Ekans Intimidate spam etc etc). I really like Gen 3 but it's probably more nostalgia than anything else (in terms of story, ORAS is better in every way, and FRLG, while really fun, are inferior to HGSS/ORAS, imo). Zubat is a really good design and so is its evolutions and I feel bad for it since what most people see is Cave Encounters and not the Pokemon itself.

Not sure if this counts as unpopular but I hate the way FRLG handles its levels. It's fine for most of the same but they skyrocket toward the end to the point where you're using level 45-50s against trainers with Level 60-70s (Elite 4 and Champion). What bugs me the most is that these are winnable when you're 20 levels behind. It just doesn't sit right that I should be able to beat the champion, who has Level 60s with my Lv 45-55 Pokemon.
 
I said plenty of bad things about the Pokémon Anime in other series, but here's a few often critisized things that honestly don't bother me in the slightest:

-Ash not getting older: It's something most long-running series of any media do to keep the characters consistent. Yet Pokémon is the only one to ever get flak for doing this.
-Ash being stupid: This is actually one of my favourite aspects of him that he has no idea about things unrelated to Pokémon. But any Pokémon-related experience being discarded is a legit complaint, especially with Pokémon Ash should be familiar with (ADV/DP sidestepped this by having May/Dawn look up when meeting a Pokémon from older seasons).
-Best Wishes in general: They axed Brock, Dawn and Pokémon contests. That alone is a grand improvement over DP.
-Releasing Pokémon: I think it has like 2-3 scenes tops in it that have Ash legit releasing a Pokémon, with some of them actually coming back.

A few on specific scenes:
-Scizor's False Swipe: First of all, the move fails to finish off Heracross as you would expect from an attack meant to not faint the target. Second, his trainer hasn't battled in like a year because he believes his computer data is more reliable than any actual battle, so during the final part where he stops relying on his PC (which seemed to not give proper info on the battle), it would make sense for him to lose on a bad call.
-Thunder Armor: Yes, the most blatant cheating in the anime is no issue to me. Given how Psychic-Types are treated as godlike in any other situation (even sometimes baggage mons like Psyduck or Stantler because Psychic powers), they really had it coming.

I think this is criticised for similar ways The Ash Coma theory is made as pointed out by Oddish. The main demographic for the anime is kids who really don't care if he ages but a lot of Pokemon fans who have been a part of the series would rather Ash grow up this them or something in order to justify watching it or something. I mean when was the last time you heard a 10 year old complain about this? Compare that with the last time someone older made this complaint.

Delibird is usually in the Top 10 lists for worst pokemon ever, but I've always liked him. The subtle penguin/Santa Claus fusion design is very cute, and I even kind of like his sack-tail. It's just weird enough to work.

Sure Ice/Flying is one of the worst types ever, it has two of the same ability, a gimmick for a signature move, and no real competitive merit beyond Aerial Ace + Hustle, but I don't think it really needs it. Not every 'mon has to be Garchomp, and at least Delibird still has character (unlike Luvdisc).

I guess I always thought Delibird was on the 'worst pokemon' lists for actual use, not design. I personally think he has an awesome design, and lets be real, he should have lackluster fighting capabilities. He's just a cute little present delivering penguin/Santa thing like you said. Also, I don't get the hate for luvdisc. I think it's fine.
 
I always thought people latched onto the Vital Spirit/Insomnia debacle with a "Gamefreak hates you so we hate you!" vibe. And a lot of people equate a pokemon's worth with it's competitive strength too. Although Siggu brought up that it's also pretty rare, which tends to obscure it in the eyes of the populous (so the negative traits ring louder than the positive ones).

On the other hand, this wouldn't be the unpopular opinions thread if we didn't define "unpopular" as very fast and loose.

As for Luvdisc, I personally find the design very boring. Alomomola pretty much did everything about it better, to the point we used to think it was a direct evolution. But the Luvdisc hate started way before Gen 5 though. And I never said I hated it, just that the design lacks character.
 
There's no problem with Insomnia/Vital Spirit. That they have the same in-battle effect doesn't mean they aren't legitimately different abilities.
