I think it was they didn't make any new Mega Evolutions as they wanted to focus on Z-Moves (which to me is a slippery slope, if you completely focus on the new mechanics then that means previous new mechanics will never be added upon. GF is always introducing new stuff, so does that mean in Gen VIII that there won't be new Mega Evos or Z-Moves because they want to focus on the new mechanic... which would then be equally ignored in Gen IX for its new mechanic, etc.).

We're getting the Key Stone and a Mega Stone from Dexio and Sina and I'm assumed its during the story.
The interview confirmed it's post game.

Also i found it
o over the course of the main scenario of the main game, Mega Evolutions don't appear. But once you finish the story, you unlock the access to Mega Evolve Pokémon. You run through the main game learning about these new Z moves, and after the game you unlock more strategic depth by combining Z move with mega-evolve Pokémon.

Has the mined data yet confirmed that there definitely won't be any new mega evolutions? I ask in case it's in the same code that keeps Rayquaza from mega evolving when holding a Z-Crystal.

It's probably more of a check to see if it is holding something that would cause the extra box to pop up, if i had to guess. Something like that may not include specific item values, so that kind of info wouldn't be there.

By the way, given there is one Z-Crystal available in the demo... does it say if it can be removed? (I suppose not)

Dunno if the code that checks whether the item is removable is in either the move or the item (even on Mails, which can never be removed), but I guess it's in the former.

I was wondering if Eternal Flower Floette was still in the coding? If so they might actually release it at some point, otherwise they would've scrubbed it like they did with Cosplay Pikachu. What made is stand out from Spiky-Earred Pichu and Cosplay Pikachu, 2 Pokemon with similar mechanics(Can't evolve or breed) is that it could be freely traded and put into Pokemon Bank, which meant that it was, at least, initially, intended to not be erased from existence down the road. Especially since it had a unique stat spread and an exclusive Signature move unlike the other two.

In the same line of thought I'm pretty sure Ash-Greninja will be similar to the others in that it won't be able to breed, as the data considers it a seperate form with Battle Bond as all three Abilities rather than having Torrent or Protean. The real question is how well it can be moved around, if it will end up like Pichu and Pikachu or more something in line with Floette.

Another UPDATE (also from Falo): The reason M-Rayquaza Can't Mega Evolve AND use a Z-Move is because the Mega Evolution button and the Z-Move button occupy the same space on the menu. Therefore, logic dictates that Rayquaza cannot use a Z-Move at all while knowing Dragon Ascent.

Also, interestingly, the Z-Crystals that are placed on the Z-Ring are referred to in the code as "beads", where as their held item counterparts are referred to as "pieces".

Oh, and the new Mega Evo button is looking sleek:

That's not really new info, but I thought I'd give my two cents :)

Floette isn't in the demo code at all because it's not in the alolan pokedex. So there's no way to know if it's still in the game at this point.

I assume this would be unless another team member has already mega-evolved thus leaving the option open. Unless they created specific code saying that Rayquaza can't use a Z-move while knowing Dragon Ascent, this would be a way to have an insanely powerful Flying type STAB coming off that 150 attack. Not as threatening as mega ray using it but still something to note.
Could be useful in some kind of doubles that allows it. Mega evolve with your slot 1 then have regular ray fire off a literal nuke.

is that literally the reasoning? What would then stop them from doing it so when it checks to see if the Pokemon can Mega Evolve or use a Z-Move if they set it up so that if it finds it is eligible to use one it stops checking for the other? meaning, for example, a Rayquaza with the Flying Z-Crystal and Dragon Decent gets the option to Mega Evolve, then the turn after it Mega Evolves the Z-Move button pops up?

CORRECTION: It can use a Z-Move while knowing Dragon Ascent, but it cannot Mega Evolve while holding a Z-Crystal.

My bad :|

That's okay, and kinda neat to know. If i had to guess: it checks for a Z-Crystal first, then usage of that counts as if the Pokemon had mega evolved, so it doesn't even check to see if it is eligible for Mega Evolution. Neat.

Yeah, which is interesting. Z-Moves take priority over Mega Evolution; it's something that will hardy ever come up, but hey, it's a neat little factoid :)

Quick question: so the demo apparently had certain NPCs talking about events that were a certain amount of days away from October 18; one after 5 days, one after 12 days, one after 18 days, and one after 24 days. Two of these events should have happened by now (October 23 and 30 respectively) and one should be happening soon (the 5th, I believe); did we get anything noteworthy on these dates, and should we expect anything on the other two dates?

The first event takes place the day after you download the demo. Talking to the man outside the Pokemon Center will give you 10 Pretty Wings. These items are useless and can only be sold for a very small price.
The second event is five days after you downloaded the demo. The girl in the southwest corner of town will introduce you to the "guy" who helped her one time, which turns out to be a Machamp. No reward.
Third event is the most valuable so far, and takes place 12 days after getting the demo. Talk to the man with the Pikachu in City Hall, and you'll celebrate the Pikachu's birthday. He gives you a Balm Mushroom, which can be sold for a lot.
Fourth event has not yet happened and is set for 18 days after downloading the demo, which is in two more days if you got the demo ASAP. The police officer at the marina mentions that he expects a "shady deal" to be going down then, and would like your help dealing with it.
The fifth event takes place another six days after the fourth one. The girl in the Ferry Terminal is leaving on a ship and wants you to see her off.

I believe Youtube videos can be found showing what happens in the fourth and fifth events through hacking, and we have full dumps of the demo's text files, including from these events, which can be found in the first post of this topic. I've stayed away from all of this since I'm willing to wait to see what happens myself.

My friend had to redownload the demo two days after it came out because his ds acted up and now he is 2 days behind every event so its based on time owning the demo not actual date
Just a little fact to point out

Lol, that's exactly what the person you quoted was saying.

I'm also two days behind on one of my demos.

Now, while people had access to all the demo text through hacking, you don't have to be a hacker to access all demo events early. It just takes a little adjusting of the clock and waiting a couple of days.

Update: More from Falo. He was able to reverse enigineer some Z-Move data for each of the moves in the demo:

All Demo Zenryoku Waza (Z-Move) Stats:
Note: none of these have effects.
Slam, 160
Headbutt, 140
Fury Attack, 100
Bite, 120
Thunderbolt, 175
Rock Throw, 100
Super Fang, 100
Struggle, 1
Mud-Slap, 100
Spark, 120
Pursuit, 100
Iron Tail, 180
Rock Smash, 100
Air Cutter, 120
Rock Tomb, 120
Aerial Ace, 120
Dragon Claw, 160
Pluck, 120
Night Slash, 140
Electro Ball, 160
Water Shuriken, 100
Nuzzle, 100

Note: these have effects
Leer, Sand Attack, Growl, Supersonic,
Thunder Wave, Double Team, Scary Face,
Odor Sleuth, Howl, Autotomize, Play Nice

How it works:
the waza_tbl.garc now has 5 extra field, the first 3 are
"ZenryokuWazaNumber", "ZenryokuWazaPower" and "ZenryokuWazaEffect"
so there is no calculation, it has fixed stats.
Note: each Zenryoku Waza has it's own data entry, by default it's PP field is 1,
so in the future they could change it to make multi-use possible

Victini and Rayquaza laugh at the base power of those Z-Moves.

Please tell me that's not just a fail safe. I want to waste a Z-Move with "Mega" Struggle. XD

As for the boring moves, the pattern seems to be this: (Warning Math)

x = Base Power and y = Z Power

If x < 50 then y = 100
If 50 > x > 85 then 2x = y
If x < 85 then (x - 85) + (85 * 2) = y or x + 85 = y (Same results)

In other words, 100 is the minimum Z Power and if the Base Power is less than 85, it's doubled. If the Normal Power is greater than 85, Then everything up to 85 gets Doubled, but the amount of power over 85 is just added on. (or you just add 85 to the power. It gets the same results.)

Unless there's a Maximum Z Power or there's another formula for absurd amounts of power then My Calculations for Z Power changes are this:

Brave Bird -120 --> 205
Draco Meteor - 130 --> 215
Boom Burst - 140 --> 225
Hyper Beam - 150 --> 235
V-Create - 180 --> 265
Explosion - 250 --> 335

EDIT: My formulas wrong are wrong, but they do seem to come close to the actual Z Power

It could be that all the new megas are of pokemon not in the alola dex though.
we know the number of new items and i think some basic information of some (like the new held item that works like dire hit)

the talk of it being post game and not focusing on mega evolution also probably implies no new megas
