I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet. I can see IGN rating SM 7.8/10 too many slow 'mons.

Gen 7 had a lot of 'mons with good designs, Abilities, moves and types and GF wasted all that by giving most of the 'mons shitty Base speeds. I'm honestly disappointed in most of the new 'mons from a competitive view point.

Question is whether low base speed necessarily dooms a critter (exhibit A: Amoonguss). But as I alluded to before, I do wish speed wasn't a gatekeeper stat.

gen 6 introduced a ton of extremely niche moves that barely anyone learned

Which is why I'm overjoyed to see so many vanilla moves that are just damage + an extra effect. Pokemon has too many varying opponents to support niche moves that only work in 2 or 3 situations.

Don't even bring up that 7.8 joke. It just made everyone look ignorant to how video game ratings work (a 7 = good, not a C like school grades) and ignorant to what the review actually said. (The reviewer thought Sapphire had too many water enemies resulting in certain types like fire/ground being difficult to level and made it too easy to overlevel electric/grass types) Which is competely understandable.

Yeah, IGN is right - it's so hard to train Blaziken in the game.

Zygarde 10%: 54/100/71/61/85/115
100% form: 216/100/121/91/95/85

When does the 100% form activate again, this thing is insane; Physical defence tier is as good as Chansey's special (- eviolite) and it special defence is as good as Regi Ice.

Once again. Not a bad score. They still loved the game. Balanced enemies is basic game design. If the entire sun and moon were just water Pokemon (due it being a tropical island) it'd get old fast and wouldn't let every type have a chance to shine. Nothing to do with "being hard to level" just proper and fair design and balance.

People think 70% = average because of school grades. 70% in school is average and 50% is failing while in games 50% is average and 70% is "good".

This is because school is different than games and movies. You can't have a mathematician or a doctor tag only gets things right 50% of the time which is why a 59% and below is an F.

You can totally enjoy a game that you only liked half of though. I know plenty of people that hate he campaign in Pokemon but love mutiayer. They on enjoy 50% of the game, and they still like it so it wasn't a failure in their eyes.

This is why that joke is so dumb. It's completely ignorant to the fact that you can dislike 22% of a game but still love it overall and enjoy that 78% of it.

Now stop baiting us off topic.

BREAKING:

GALE WINGS ONLY WORKS WHEN TALONFLAME IS MAX HP

I've seen some confusion regarding changes to some moves (specifically knock off, which does not seem to be nerfed), so I am compiling all of the move changes here that are found from this pasteee that I found on KazoWAR's twitter: https://paste.ee/r/mvJ70

You can find changes by searching for "(!)" (no quotations).

Nerfs:

Sucker Punch: 70 BP (was 80)
Tackle: 40 BP (was 50) (we knew this from a preview)
Thunder Wave: 90% Accuracy (was 100%) (we knew this from the demo)
Swagger: 85% Accuracy (was 90%)
Dark Void: 50% Accuracy (was 80%) (also apparently can only be used by Darkrai!)

Buffs:

Leech Life: 80 BP (was 20 lol) (also now only has 10 base PP instead of 15, but who actually cares)
Ally Switch: +2 Priority (was +1)
Flying Press: 100 BP (was 80)
Fell Stinger: 50 BP (was 30)
Parabolic Charge: 65 BP (was 50)
Diamond Storm: 50% chance for +2 Defense for the user (was +1 Defense)
Mystical Fire: 75 BP (was 65)

Also, something we've known from the demo, and is both a change and a slight form-dependent buff
Water Shuriken: Now boosted by Battle Bond (50-100%?), Special (was Physical)

Also, one other random stat buff that I found that was not already identified by Kaphotics:

Mega Alakazam: Special Defense 105 (was 95)

So barring any errors or omissions, that's it for move changes. That means that Knock Off is still 65 BP, and probably gives the 50% damage boost against Pokemon holding an item. If I find out otherwise, I'll be sure to mention it.
To go with this, there was something I was wondering about.
Dancing moves have added flags, if I understood the pasteee correctly.. They're maybe related to Oricorio's ability?

Wow...R.I.P. Tflame, you were one of my new favs too..meanwhile Greninja gets a second uber form lol. (Also a new fav, but still it's principle lol)

Wow poor Talonflame, it was an annoying bird yes, but that's just complete overkill.

The fell stinger buff has me intrigued though.

Gamefreak takes balance tips from HAL, they just metaknighted his ass lmao

Well technically HAL didn't have anything to do with Meta Knight's nerfs. That game was developed by Nintendo/Namco. Sakurai hasn't been with HAL for a long time. Also Meta Knight became good after a few patches too.

But I get what you were getting at. They want to destroy the winged fiend from his heavenly high tier perch

So gamefreak's definitely been making strides to help nerf some common VGC stuff (the systematic take down of priority, for one) but has anything affected Landorus-T & Thundurus

I guess Thundurus has priority nerfs for prankster stuff, but you'd think landorus would have got hit with something too. It's been like 5 years of Landorus and I always saw complaints about it and the others.

Personally not too intrigued by the Electric UB - tail glow is cool, but 71 defenses and low speed isn't. Basically forced to run scarf (Thundy-T syndrome just higher SpA + ability). Am I the only one that likes UB01? Woulda been cool if its SpA > SpD and not other way around but oh well. Also that grass/steel UB is gonna destroy everything lol

I'm glad the water/poison one is good. Low HP sucks but higher defenses than Ferro + regen or even a merciless + venoshock + recover set is amazing, can't wait

Tapu Koko not getting play rough.. lol and Tapu Fini not getting (reliable) recovery... lol

I wish Alolan forms got better stats, no more sandslash for me.. at least Muk is still decent

Was hoping for better stats for Palossand as well but oh well. Shell smash Minion ftw

what kind of synergy does Primarina get with Liquid Sound? just hyper voice?

Do we know if the sound based moves also become stronger? And it seems to be just hyper voice. Kinda of a let down ability.

It does seem to get Perish song, which is not bad, but breeding only, which means if I just only use the starter I can't use that :(

I'm quite happy with the Talonflame nerf. It will still be able to check a lot of pokemon, but Talonflame really ruined battlespot.
