Monotype Nihilego (Poison)

[OVERVIEW]

Poison
========
* Nihilego's high Special Attack and great Speed allow it to function as an efficient revenge killer and sweeper.
* Beast Boost allows Nihilego to boost its Special Attack with every KO, building momentum against a weakened team.
* Nihilego has access to Rock-type coverage, which is rare for Poison teams and helps it sweep Fire and Flying teams.
* It sits at a unique Speed tier that allows it to outspeed and KO many threatening foes such as Victini, Garchomp, Landorus, and Mega Charizard X and Y.
* Nihilego also boasts incredible special bulk that lets it take almost any neutral hit and even some super effective hits with ease including Pelipper's Scald and Mega Venusaur's Giga Drain.
* Its typing is unique and provides a resistance to Fire- and Flying-type attacks. However, it is also doubly weak to Ground moves and adds Water and Steel weaknesses, making it weak to priority attacks from Azumarill and Scizor.
* Despite great special bulk, its Defense stat is poor, leaving it unable to deal with physical attackers that can either outspeed or otherwise avoid being KOed by it.
* Even with its high Special Attack, Nihilego is dependent on Beast Boost for power, as its unboosted damage output is not amazing. Opponents like Infernape are able to survive any unboosted attack and retaliate.
* Additionally, the combination of Rock- and Poison-type STAB moves is mediocre due to being resisted by Ground- and Steel-types, forcing Nihilego to rely on coverage moves such as Hidden Power and Thunderbolt to check these opponents.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Power Gem is Nihilego's most reliable STAB attack, allowing it to OHKO threats such as Victini and Mega Charizard X and sweep Fire and Flying teams once key defensive threats are weakened.
* Sludge Wave is its most powerful attack, hitting Fairy-types such as Tapu Koko and Tapu Bulu super effectively and causing major damage to anything that doesn't resist it.
* Hidden Power Ice allows Nihilego to OHKO Landorus, Gliscor, and Garchomp, which are major threats to Poison teams, after a little prior damage.
* Thunderbolt provides the best coverage in tandem with the other 3 moves and is often Nihilego's best option against Steel-types such as Celesteela as well as opponents like Toxapex and Mega Gyarados.
* Hidden Power Fire can be used instead of Hidden Power Ice to hit Steel-types hard, 2HKOing Excadrill, defensive Mega Scizor, and Ferrothorn.
* Grass Knot can be used instead of Thunderbolt to pressure Ground-types more, OHKOing threats such as Mamoswine and Seismitoad, but is inferior in terms of overall coverage and leaves Nihilego helpless against Steel-types.

Set Details
========

* Maximum Speed EVs with a Timid nature ensure that Nihilego makes the most out of its great Speed tier, while the rest of the EVs are invested in Special Attack to make it as strong as possible.
* With a Choice Scarf, Nihilego outspeeds many foes that would otherwise be problematic, such as Choice Scarf Garchomp and Mega Charizard X after a Dragon Dance.
* The EVs above cause Beast Boost to increase Special Attack by one stage with each KO. Coupled with Nihilego's high Speed, it can allow Nihilego to sweep a weakened team with ease.

Usage Tips
========

* Nihilego should be saved for later in the match so that it can pick off weakened foes and boost its power, serving as an effective wincon.
* However, if the opponent has managed to set up and threaten the team, Nihilego can be brought in early to scare off or KO the threat at hand. Its great Speed means that even if Mega Charizard X or Volcarona nab a Speed boost, Nihilego can revenge kill them.
* Due to its amazing natural special bulk, it can also switch in on weaker resisted special hits, such as Pelipper's Hurricane and Torkoal's Lava Plume, and pressure the foe if necessary.
* Conversely, it should not be switched in directly against physical threats, even those that are likely to set up that turn, as a single misprediction will cause you to lose Nihilego.
* Even after one boost, Nihilego still cannot break many special walls such as Chansey, so it should avoid trying to sweep until they've been sufficiently weakened or KO.

Team Options
========

* Mega Venusaur is a great partner for Nihilego because it can switch into almost any Water- or Ground-type attack comfortably due to its Grass typing. Nihilego appreciates Mega Venusaur's stellar physical bulk, and Mega Venusaur similarly appreciates Nihilego's Rock typing to help take Fire and Flying attacks and eliminate strong foes such as Mega Pinsir and Mega Charizard X and Y.
* Crobat provides an immunity to Nihilego's biggest weakness in Ground and can Defog away entry hazards and screens. It can also maintain momentum with U-turn, helping to bring in Nihilego safely on opponents Crobat scares away such as Mega Venusaur, and use Taunt on more defensive opponents, such as Chansey, that Nihilego struggles against.
* Alolan Muk is immune to Psychic-type attacks and can trap Psychic-types such as Choice Scarf Latios and Alolan Raichu that would otherwise outspeed and KO Nihilego. It also provides utility with Knock Off, removing items and weakening opponents for a late-game sweep.
* Scolipede doesn't provide much defensive synergy, but it makes a great offensive partner because it puts additional pressure on Steel- and Ground-types as well as bulky Psychic-types such as Mew and Slowbro, paving the way for Nihilego to sweep teams that only have one or two of these.
* Salazzle, though it is also a speedy special attacker, can outspeed and KO almost every Steel-type with its Fire-type attacks, including Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, and Magnezone, which Nihilego appreciates.
* Nidoking and Nidoqueen can also deal with many Steel- and Ground-types with Earth Power, Flamethrower, and Ice Beam, and can even set up Stealth Rock to help weaken the opponent's team for Nihilego to sweep.
* Gengar can run Hidden Power Ice and Thunderbolt to allow Nihilego to run alternative coverage, and is also able to run Focus Blast to take on Steel-types for Nihilego as well as Taunt to shut down walls that Nihilego has trouble breaking.
* Toxapex is one of the best defensive pivots that can support Nihilego, as it can switch into Water- and Steel-type attacks, wall many physical attackers, and use Haze to check setup sweepers that might try to take advantage of Nihilego being locked into coverage moves.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Poison
--------
* Nihilego can run Dazzling Gleam over Thunderbolt for added coverage against Fighting-, Dark-, and Dragon-types, but it will leave Nihilego unable to do much damage to most Steel-types. Hidden Power Ice already provides some coverage against Dragon-types and will hit Garchomp harder than Dazzling Gleam.
* Psychic can be used over Thunderbolt to hit Poison-types, but otherwise does not provide any useful coverage. Dazzling Gleam can deal with most Fighting-type opponents more efficiently.
* Nihilego can equip Choice Specs over Choice Scarf for more immediate power, securing the 2HKO on Heatran and Celesteela with Power Gem and Thunderbolt, respectively. However, it will lose to almost every viable Choice Scarf user as a result of its unboosted Speed, including Garchomp and Victini, and will even lose to unboosted opponents in a higher Speed tier such as Dugtrio and Greninja.
* Nihilego can also run an effective suicide lead set with Focus Sash and either Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes, but this can be done just as effectively by Nidoking and Nidoqueen and isn't worth giving up Nihilego's potential as a Choice Scarf user.
* An Air Balloon can be used to circumvent Nihilego's biggest weakness to Ground, but it leaves Nihilego open to faster threats that can KO it through other means and still exposes it to Ground-type moves after it takes a hit. Nihilego can support its team better by utilizing its Speed and power to their maximum potential and should rely on team support for dealing with Ground-type moves.

Checks and Counters
===================

Poison
--------
**Steel-types**: Steel-types are immune to Poison and generally resistant to Rock and most coverage moves, and as a result can tank attacks from Nihilego with ease. Ferrothorn and Magearna are especially troublesome because they do not take much damage from any of Nihilego's common coverage moves and can either set up or OHKO it with Steel-type attacks.

**Ground-types**: Ground-types resist both of Nihilego's STAB moves and can OHKO it with Ground-type moves. Excadrill is especially deadly, as it can outspeed Nihilego if sand is up and OHKO with either STAB move, but other Ground-types such as Mamoswine and Seismitoad can also remove Nihilego easily if it lacks Grass Knot.

**Special Walls**: Even with multiple boosts from its ability, Nihilego will struggle to dent special walls that it cannot hit super effectively. Pokemon such as Chansey, Alolan Muk, and Cradily can take multiple attacks and either cripple it or outright KO it.

**Psychic-types**: Psychic-types deal super effective damage to Nihilego and often use Psyshock, taking advantage of its poor Defense stat. As a result, Nihilego should avoid all Psychic-types unless it can outspeed and OHKO with certainty. Mega Alakazam is especially threatening, as it can survive Power Gem after one boost, copy Beast Boost for itself with Trace, and start to counter-sweep your team.

**Revenge Killers**: Nihilego must beware of revenge killers that either outspeed and OHKO Choice Scarf users, such as Latios and Keldeo, or use powerful priority attacks, including Mega Scizor's Bullet Punch and Azumarill's Aqua Jet.

**Physical Attacks**: Nihilego has poor Defense, so even neutral physical attacks will cause large amounts of damage. Physical attackers that can hit Nihilego for neutral damage such as Terrakion, Breloom, and Tyranitar can OHKO it without using super effective attacks.

**Paralysis**: Nihilego should avoid paralysis at all costs, as it will cut its Speed in half to make it much easier to outspeed and KO. For this reason, Nihilego should take extra precaution when switching into Discharge, especially from Zapdos. Additionally, Thundurus and Klefki can easily paralyze Nihilego with priority Thunder Wave.

am qc, does not count for qc 1/3

[OVERVIEW]

- its typing provides poison teams a resistance to fire and flying type moves, which enables it to beat huge threats to poison teams such as zard y
- elaborate a bit on its amazing speed tier, allowing it outspeed pokemon with 100 speed such as victini
- mention its decent coverage

[SET]

- i don't think grass knot deserves a slash with tbolt, as, like you said, the coverage provided by tbolt is a lot more important. put this in other options
- hp fire should be slashed next to hp ice to have at least something to hit steel types like ferro
- your EVs are messed up, you don't want 252 spdef and 4 speed on a scarfed nihilego.

name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Power Gem
move 2: Sludge Wave
move 3: Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Thunderbolt
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Beast Boost
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

- remove grass knot
- add hp fire

Set Details

- mention threats that it needs a choice scarf to check, such as a +1 zard x
- the bullet about its spdef seems awfully unecessary; you can talk about its stats in overview but idt you need to mention its amazing spdef in set details again. it should be pretty clear why you would prefer not to run any defensive evs on an offensive set

Usage Tips

- mention how it should not be switched in directly on physical threats, even those that are likely to set up that turn, such as zard x, as its pitiful physical bulk means that a single misprediction can cause you to loss your nihilego
- on the other hand, it can be used to switch in on special threats like zard y although not continuously, as it hates getting worn down too quickly
- it should take advantage of beast boost whenever possible. bring it in to revenge kill pokemon that have been lowered down to make it easier for nihilego to clean up

Team Options

- nidoqueen provides rocks to make it much easier for nihilego to clean up
- special wallbreakers like nidoking and salazzle can wear down specially defensive walls for a late-game nihilego sweep. salazzle can also break through steel types that nihilego can barely touch, such as ferrothorn
- mega venusaur also appreciates the flying resist and nihileg's ability to take down zard y
- toxapex's toxic spikes make cleaning up a lot easier as well
- nihilego also manages to patch up scolipede's weakness to flying and fire type moves decently

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options

- remove hp fire since its now in moves
- add grass knot
- choice specs definitely deserves a mention, its more viable than most of the options listed here
- mention the lead set fits better than nidoqueen on hyper offensive archetypes although there's little reason to run that
- assault vest is a decent option to increase its special bulk and allow it to take on special threats like zard y better
- what should dgleam, psyshock, or psychic be used over?

Checks and Counters

seems good

AM QC check, doesn't count for 1/3. Implement what you agree with, leave the rest for QC.
[OVERVIEW]

Poison
========
* Nihilego's high Special Attack and great Speed allow it to function as an efficient revenge killer and sweeper.
* Beast Boost is a great ability that can allow Nihilego to build momentum and overwhelm the opponent if it isn't dealt with quickly enough. Mention that it boosts special attack
* Nihilego has access to a variety of coverage moves that can provide offensive support depending on the team's needs. Not really? Say Decent coverage or something, but it's definitally not great
* Nihilego also boasts incredible special bulk that let it take almost any neutral hit and even some weaker super effective hits on the special side with ease.
* However, as it has no way to heal itself, Nihilego should avoid switching in often as weaker hits and hazard damage will add up.
* Despite great special bulk, its defense stat is poor, leaving it unable to deal with physical attackers that can either outspeed or otherwise avoid being KO'd by Nihilego.
* Mention typing; stacking ground weaknesses is bad and hurts vs steel, but the second STAB helps vs Zard Y, flying, Fire, nuetral hits, etc.

move 2: Sludge Wave
move 3: Hidden Power Ice
move 4: Thunderbolt / Grass Knot

evs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def Spe, not Spd; 4 def is a minor change but helps slightly more because it actually impacts the stat.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Nihilego boasts the strongest Power Gem in the game, which allows it to OHKO threats like Victini and Mega-Charizard X. The power is more of an overveiw thing; just
* Sludge Wave is its most powerful attack, and though it doesn't provide much coverage, it will cause major damage to anything that isn't resistant.
* Hidden Power Ice allows Nihilego to OHKO Landorus-I and Garchomp after a little prior damage and heavily dents most other Ground types not really, it cant even 2hko fully physdef hippo after rocks: 252 SpA Nihilego Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Hippowdon: 170-200 (40.4 - 47.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery, much less anything nuetral like excadrill.
Consider HP Fire in moves here for smacking excadrill/scizor/ferro, but it's not the best thing to be scarf locked into vs steel.
* Thunderbolt provides the best coverage in tandem with the other 3 moves, and is often Nihilego's best option against Steel types.
* However, Grass Knot can be run to damage Ground types more, and is the best option against Ground types that are neutral to Ice or most other ground types really, hp ice is for lando/gliscor/chomp, such as Mamoswine and Seismitoad.

Set Details
========

* Maximum speed EVs with a Timid nature ensure that Nihilego makes the most out of its great speed tier, while the rest of the EVs are invested in Special Attack to make it as strong as possible.
* With a Choice Scarf, Nihilego outspeeds everything up to and including Choice Scarf Garchomp. consider rewording, as it also lets it do stuff like outspeed +1 char x which is really annoying for poison.
* The EVs above allow its ability to boost Special Attack one stage with each KO. Coupled with its speed, it can allow Nihilego to sweep a weakened team with ease. Say beast boost, not it's ability.
* Despite not allocating any EVs towards bulk, Nihilego's amazing natural Special Defense is on par with other special tanks like Assault Vest Conkeldurr and specially defensive Zapdos. This seems like an overview thing ebcause this has nothing to do with the set itself, it's just a natural trait of Nihilego.

Usage Tips
========

* Nihilego should be saved for later in the match so that it can pick off weakened foes and boost its power with beast boost, serving as an effective win condition.
* However, if the opponent managed to boost itself and threaten the team, Nihilego can be brought in early to scare off or KO the threat at hand. Its great speed means that even if Mega-Charizard X or Dragonite nab a speed boost, Nihilego can revenge kill them. I'd advise something other than dragonite, as Nihilego cant revenge a full hp dragonite; it can just dd again and then sweep.
* Nihilego can be brought in after a teammate has fainted, however due to its amazing natural bulk on the special side, it can also switch in on weaker resisted special hits such as and pressure the opponent if necessary.
* Nihilego should not come into battle until it is needed; due to a lack of recovery, any chip damage from hazards and weaker hits is permanent and will make Nihilego easier to KO.

Team Options
========

* Mega-Venusaur is a great partner for Nihilego as it can switch into almost any Water or Ground attack comfortably due to its Grass typing. Nihilego is often targeted on its physical defense, and Mega-Venusaur's excellent physical bulk is much appreciated.
* Similarly, Toxapex has great physical bulk and while it can't switch into powerful Ground or Psychic attacks, it can sponge most physical hits and provide chip damage using Scald, Toxic and a Rocky Helmet, which Nihilego appreciates to help power through opponents. Rocky helmet is ehhh, and this isn't the best option because of shared weaknesses+not really the best playstyle fit+not that much of a direct fit. Keep if you want, but I don't thinl this should be so high.
* Crobat provides an immunity to Nihilego's biggest weakness in Ground moves, and can Defog hazards and screens away. It can also help maintain momentum with U-turn, helping to bring in Nihilego safely on things it beats such as... .
* Alolan Muk is immune to Psychic attacks and can trap Psychic types like choice scarf Latios and Alolan Raichu with Pursuit, who would otherwise outspeed and KO Nihilego. regular latios doesn't outspeed.
* Scolipede doesn't provide much defensive synergy, but it makes a great offensive partner as it provide additional pressure on Steel and Ground types, paving the way for Nihilego to sweep these teams with its coverage moves. Nihilego isn't sweeping steel period, and probably not ground either because nuetralities+excadrill. Maybe mention it helps remove steel- and ground-types so that Nihilego can sweep teams that carry only 1 or two?
* Nidoking / maybe queen for dealing somewhat with steels+water+ground with Fire Blast/EP, Tbolt, and ice beam or sr
* Salazzle for steels

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Poison
--------
* Nihilego has access to Dazzling Gleam for added coverage against Fighting, Dark and Dragon types. This can be beneficial if its team is ill-equipped to handle these types otherwise, but it will leave Nihilego unable to do much damage to most Steel types. Additionally, Hidden Power Ice already provides some coverage against dragons, and will hit Garchomp harder than Dazzling Gleam.
* Hidden Power Fire can be used instead of Hidden Power Ice to hit Steel types such as... (Heatran, Celesteela, Skarmory, Empoleon, etc are all hit harder by other moves, and specifically mention excadrill here too because it's a big threat for nihilego), but it then loses the ability to KO both Garchomp and Landorus-I equipped with Choice Scarf, which is crucial for Poison teams as they will otherwise struggle to defeat them. choice scarf lando-I is rare, do you mean lando-t? also put this in moves, or at the very least put it in the first OO.
* Psychic and Psyshock can be used to hit Poison types, but otherwise do not provide any useful coverage. Most Fighting types are dealt with more efficiently with Dazzling Gleam.
* Choice specs, but highlight the tradoff of power against speed; mention how it does stuff like 2hko Celesteela with Tbolt / Heatran with power gem, but loses out on lots of scarves.
* Nihilego can also run an effective suicide lead set with Focus Sash and Stealth Rock / Toxic Spikes, but this can be done to a similar effect by Nidoking and Nidoqueen, and isn't worth giving up its potential as a Choice Scarf user. Really even hazards nihilego should be 3 attacks
* An Air Balloon can be used to circumvent Nihilego's biggest weakness to ground, but leaves it open to faster threats that can KO it through other means. Nihilego can support its team better by utilizing its speed and power to their maximum potential, and rely on team support for dealing with Ground moves.

Checks and Counters
===================

Poison
--------
**Steel Types**: Steel types are immune to Poison and generally resistant to Rock and most coverage moves, and as a result can tank attacks from Nihilego with ease. Ferrothorn and Magearna are especially troublesome as they do not take much damage from any of Nihilego's common coverage moves, and can either set up or OHKO it outright with Steel moves.

**Ground Types**: Ground types resist both STAB moves and can all OHKO Nihilego with Ground moves. Excadrill is especially deadly as it can outspeed Nihilego if sand is up, and can OHKO with either STAB move.

**Psychic Types**: Psychic types can not only hit Nihilego super effectively, but many of them learn Psyshock which will also hit its defense stat. As a result, Nihilego should avoid all Psychic types unless it can outspeed and OHKO with certainty.

**Special Walls**: Even with multiple boosts from its ability, Nihilego will struggle to dent special walls that it cannot hit super effectively. Pokemon such as Chansey, Goodra, Alolan Muk, and Cradily can take multiple attacks and either cripple it or outright KO it. Put this before psychic types

**Physical Attacks**: Nihilego has poor defense, and as a result even neutral physical attacks will cause large amounts of damage. Physical attackers that can hit Nihilego for neutral damage such as Terrakion and Tyranitar can OHKO on the physical side without using super effective attacks.

**Priority**: Most priority attacks are physical moves, and although Bullet Punch and Aqua Jet hit Nihilego super effectively, even neutral priority attacks like Mach Punch and Sucker Punch will heavily damage it. Nihilego should try to avoid common users of these attacks whenever possible. put this above physical attacks, as they are the most dangerous physical attacks+they prevent revenge KOing, while all physical attackers do is cause switches.

**Paralysis**: Nihilego should avoid paralysis at all costs, as it will cut speed in half and make it much easier to outspeed and KO. For this reason, Nihilego should take extra precaution when switching into Electric moves as many of them can paralyze it as a secondary effect. Additionally, Thunder Wave from Thundurus-I and Klefki gains priority through Prankster, and will paralyze Nihilego before it takes its turn.
Nice Job!

AM QC check, doesn't count for 1/3. Implement what you agree with, leave the rest for QC. Nice Job!
Thanks! I've implemented most of it with the following exceptions:
- The bit about Power Gem will stay in Set Comments for now since the Overview has 8 points already.
- Its coverage, while not all that great, is at least varied.. The comment deals with the variety of options that have at least some practical use and will stay as-is for now.
- Assault Vest is great on Rock teams due to sand, but between Mega-Venu and Toxapex poison really doesn't need a dedicated special wall.
- HO poison won't be a thing until Mega-Beedrill is released, but even if it were I'd say Nidoking does the suicide lead set better.
- Lastly, I have tested HP Fire extensively and it just isn't as good as HP Ice. I've elaborated on this in OO (HP Fire is now the first one), but missing the OHKO on the very pokemon you run it for is not good. Mega Scizor and Exca will also get the jump on you due to priority/sand, and overall its not worth ruining your total coverage for these 3 (Power Gem handles most bugs / ices, Sludge Wave handles most grasses, and Tbolt will hit Heatran/Empoleon/Skarm/Celesteela harder). Even vs steels that HP fire hits harder than Tbolt, it won't OHKO any of them and almost all of them can OHKO Nihilego w/ ease, forcing it to run anyway.

Being forced to run from Lando and Garchomp (even if running Dazzling Gleam) is also a disaster for Poison, and at least with HP ice you can run a psuedo-boltbeam. Grass Knot will also stay in the main set for now as Poison really appreciates a Ground-killer set w/ ice/grass coverage (even if it can't beat Exca or one-shot Hippo).

I am open to changing these all if QC thinks that is correct, but for now I'm just not seeing it.

Thanks all! Ready for QC.

- The bit about Power Gem will stay in Set Comments for now since the Overview has 8 points already. It's kind of already in the Overview, so no need to add it there again.
- Its coverage, while not all that great, is at least varied.. The comment deals with the variety of options that have at least some practical use and will stay as-is for now. It might have a lot of coverage, but it's not a lot of useful coverage, as you said. It's no good having a lot if they can't be used, so I would agree with QT on this. If you want to bring up its coverage, say that it has rare coverage that lets it sweep Flying teams?
- Assault Vest is great on Rock teams due to sand, but between Mega-Venu and Toxapex poison really doesn't need a dedicated special wall. Agree with second half. I don't think AV is even viable on Rock, but it's definitely not on Poison.
- HO poison won't be a thing until Mega-Beedrill is released, but even if it were I'd say Nidoking does the suicide lead set better. I would agree because you don't want to lose out on Choice Scarf Nihilego when Nidoking can set Stealth Rock just fine. However, Nihilego technically is an adequate Stealth Rock setter for HO teams, so I would still add it. nvm I saw you did and said basically the same thing as I did, good!
- Lastly, I have tested HP Fire extensively and it just isn't as good as HP Ice. I am open to changing these all if QC thinks that is correct, but for now I'm just not seeing it. I'll discuss the set in my QC.

Thanks all! Ready for QC.
Overview:
- I wouldn't bother mentioning its lack of recovery. It's just not important on an attacker like Nihilego.
- When you're talking about its Speed tier, I would change this line a bit to highlight that Nihilego can outright sweep many Fire teams by outspeeding Mega Charizard X even after a Dragon Dance and Choice Scarf Victini. The Speed tier doesn't actually change Nihilego's ability to beat Garchomp and Landorus, as it's using a Choice Scarf. Being able to just beat Fire is really nice, although the addition of Toxapex has made it a much easier matchup.
- I would say at the end that Nihilego is pretty dependent on Battle Bond, as its damage isn't that amazing before a boost.

Set:
- Okay, regarding the set, Grass Knot is definitely not good enough. It is fine for Moves because it hits a niche in really pressuring Ground teams, but Thunderbolt's coverage is really just too good.
- Hidden Power Fire should also be in Moves. Having a way to revenge kill Landorus is pretty much necessary on Poison teams and the coverage is very useful for also breaking Gliscor, which would otherwise wall this set. However, again, Hidden Power Fire has a great niche in being able to take out Steel-types as they switch in. I think it's just a little not good enough to fit on the set because Nidoking can often fill this role, and Nihilego isn't particularly useful vs Steel anyway.
- Also fixed your EV formatting.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Power Gem
move 2: Sludge Wave
move 3: Hidden Power Ice
move 4: Thunderbolt
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Beast Boost
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Moves:
- Add Hidden Power Fire as an alternative to Hidden Power Ice. Regarding your current line in OO, Hidden Power Fire importantly 2HKOes these Steel-types, which prevents them from switching into it. Also, offensive Mega Scizor is OHKOed 100% of the time with Stealth Rock support.
- Explain the reason why Grass Knot is inferior to Thunderbolt, although it can still be used over it.
- Rewrite the Power Gem line. Explain that it's Nihilego's most reliable STAB attack with no immunities that can sweep many Fire and Flying teams.
- Add Gliscor to the Hidden Power Ice list. Being able to threaten it and scare it from switching in is very important when it comes to beating Flying.
- Explain that Thunderbolt helps wear down Celesteela and can even 2HKO Toxapex, which is partially why it's so good.

Usage Tips:
- This line is redundant.
* Nihilego should not come into battle until it is needed; due to a lack of recovery, any chip damage from hazards and weaker hits is permanent and will make Nihilego easier to KO.
- Mention that even with +1 Special Attack, Nihilego still cannot break many special walls such as Chansey, so it should avoid trying to sweep until they've been sufficiently weakened or taken out.
- Separate this line into two. One is about revenge killing and the other is about switching into special attacks.
* Nihilego can be brought in after a teammate has fainted, however due to its amazing natural bulk on the special side, it can also switch in on weaker resisted special hits and pressure the opponent if necessary.

Team Options:
- I'd add Gengar here, which can run Hidden Power Ice and/or Thunderbolt to let Nihilego run alternative coverage while also using Focus Blast to take on Steel-types for Nihilego.
- Toxapex is one of the best defensive pivots that can support Nihilego. It can switch into Water- and Steel-type attacks, walls many physical attackers, and can use Haze to check setup sweepers that might try to take advantage of Nihilego being locked into coverage moves.

Other Options:
- Remove Hidden Power Fire.
- I really wouldn't even have Psyshock here. Psychic is just better.

Checks and Counters:
- Goodra's not relevant, remove it from Special Walls.
- Give some good examples of Psychic-types. For example, Mega Alakazam can not only survive a +1 Power Gem, but it also Traces Beast boost and can instantly threaten many Poison teams.
- Change Priority to Revenge Killers. Two main ideas: Choice Scarf users like Keldeo and Latios that outspeed it and powerful priority attacks like Mega Scizor's Bullet Punch and Azumarill's Aqua Jet.

Nicely done all 3 of you. QC 1/3

QC 1/3
Implemented, thanks! I'm hesitant to state that it outright sweeps Fire by itself because Heatran exists (and maybe I have swept one too many Fire teams but I'm starting to see Scarf Nape w/ EQ which can eat an unboosted Power Gem, outspeed and OHKO). I will agree though that the combination of Nihilego/Scolipede/Toxapex is often all you need vs Fire..

Ready for QC#2 :)

[Overview]
Even with no EV investment, its special defense on par with other special tanks like Assault Vest Conkeldurr and specially defensive Zapdos.
+ This is just fluff honestly, no need to add that. The sentence you have before that is great as it is!
+ I'd add how its STAB combination is mediocre because it has to rely more on its coverage moves to check Ground and Steel teams.

All that I really have for it.

Poison
========
* Nihilego's high Special Attack and great Speed allow it to function as an efficient revenge killer and sweeper.
* Beast Boost is a great ability that can allow Nihilego to build momentum by boosting Special Attack and overwhelm the opponent if it isn't dealt with quickly enough. very wordy simplify this just talk about beast boost in general
* Nihilego has access to rare Rock coverage for Poison teams which helps it sweep Fire and Flying teams.
* It sits at a unique speed tier, which allows it to outspeed and KO many threatening opponents such as Victini, Garchomp, Landorus-I and Mega-Charizard X and Y.
* Nihilego also boasts incredible special bulk that lets it take almost any neutral hit and even some weaker super effective hits on the special side with ease. example?
* Its typing is unique and provides a resistance to Fire and Flying attacks. However, it is also doubly weak to Ground moves and adds a Steel weakness. Maybe add something about it's typing leaves it weak to priority as well from Azu and Scizor might have to be a separate bullet
* Despite great special bulk, its defense stat is poor, leaving it unable to deal with physical attackers that can either outspeed or otherwise avoid being KO'd by Nihilego. example?
* Even with its high Special Attack, Nihilego is dependent on Beast Boost for power as its unboosted damage output is not amazing. maybe sprinkle an example where it fails to KO a Pokemon without a plus 1 special attack boost to show to the reader it isn't always enough
* Additionally, the combination of Rock and Poison STAB moves is mediocre due to reduced damage on both Ground and Steel types, forcing Nihilego to rely on coverage moves to check these opponents. what coverage moves?

Moves
========

* Power Gem is Nihilego's most reliable STAB attack without immunities, which allows it to OHKO threats like Victini and Mega-Charizard X and sweep Fire and Flying teams once key defensive threats are weakened. fluff
* Sludge Wave is its most powerful attack, and though it doesn't provide much coverage, it will cause major damage to anything that isn't resistant. what exactly does Sludge Wave hit saying it doesn't cover much isn't really helpful to the reader who may be a newer player. Maybe provide some examples
* Hidden Power Ice allows Nihilego to OHKO Landorus-I, Gliscor, and Garchomp after a little prior damage which will threaten the team otherwise.
* Thunderbolt provides the best coverage in tandem with the other 3 moves and is often Nihilego's best option against Steel types. Most notably, it will help to wear down Celesteela, and can even 2HKO Toxapex. What exactly does Thunderbolt hit because it isn't just steel types
* Hidden Power Fire can be used instead of Hidden Power Ice to hit Steel types hard, able to 2HKO Excadrill, defensive Mega-Scizor and Ferrothorn.
* Though Grass Knot is inferior in terms of coverage and leaves Nihilego helpless against Steel types, it can be used instead of Thunderbolt to pressure Ground types more, OHKOing threats such as Mamoswine and Seismitoad. I would talk about what it hits first then talk about why it's inferior later just so people know it's not a good option

Set Details
========

* Maximum speed EVs with a Timid nature ensure that Nihilego makes the most out of its great speed tier, while the rest of the EVs are invested in Special Attack to make it as strong as possible.
* With a Choice Scarf, Nihilego outspeeds many foes that would otherwise be problematic, such as Choice Scarf Garchomp and Mega-Charizard X after a Dragon Dance.
* The EVs above allow Beast Boost to boost Special Attack one stage with each KO. Coupled with its speed, it can allow Nihilego to sweep a weakened team with ease.

Usage Tips
========

* Nihilego should be saved for later in the match so that it can pick off weakened foes and boost its power, serving as an effective win condition.
* However, if the opponent managed to boost itself and threaten the team, Nihilego can be brought in early to scare off or KO the threat at hand. Its great speed means that even if Mega-Charizard X or Volcarona nab a speed boost, Nihilego can revenge kill them.
* Nihilego can be brought in after a teammate has fainted to place immediate pressure on the opponent. This statement is extrmely vague and doesn't apply in certain situations maybe elobarte on this a bit more
* Due to its amazing natural bulk on the special side, it can also switch in on weaker resisted special hits and pressure the opponent if necessary. maybe a relevant example
* Conversely, it should not be switched in directly against physical threats, even those that are likely to set up that turn, as a single misprediction will cause you to lose Nihilego. avoid using you and maybe provide an example where it might seem pleasing to switch Nihlego in but in reality it isn't
* Even after one boost, Nihilego still cannot break many special walls such as Chansey, so it should avoid trying to sweep until they've been sufficiently weakened or fainted.

Team Options
========

* Mega-Venusaur is a great partner for Nihilego as it can switch into almost any Water or Ground attack comfortably due to its Grass typing. Nihilego appreciates Mega-Venusaur's stellar physical bulk, and Mega-Venusaur similarly appreciates Nihilego's Rock typing to help take Flying-type attacks and eliminating strong foes such as Mega-Charizard X and Y.
* Crobat provides an immunity to Nihilego's biggest weakness in Ground moves, and can Defog hazards and screens away. It can also help maintain momentum with U-turn, helping to bring in Nihilego safely on things Crobat beats such as Mega-Venusaur and Mega-Pinsir. doesn't Nihlego take a Quick Attack and revenge kill Mega Pinsir and what type of Pokemon specifically does Crobat help against
* Alolan Muk is immune to Psychic attacks and can trap Psychic types like Choice Scarf Latios and Alolan Raichu, who would otherwise outspeed and KO Nihilego. Knock Off utlity?
* Scolipede doesn't provide much defensive synergy, but it makes a great offensive partner as it provide additional pressure on Steel and Ground types, paving the way for Nihilego to sweep teams that only have one or two of these. bulky psychic types
* Salazzle, though it is also a speedy special attacker, can outspeed and KO almost every Steel type with its Fire attacks, which Nihilego appreciates.maybe some examples of steel-types it KOs
* Nidoking and Nidoqueen can also deal with many Steel and Ground types using Earth Power, Flamethrower and Ice Beam (all boosted by Sheer Force) and can even set Stealth Rock to help weaken the opponent for Nihilego to sweep. avoid using parathesis
* Gengar can run Hidden Power Ice and/or Thunderbolt to allow Nihilego to run alternate coverage, and is also able to run Focus Blast to take on Steel types for Nihilego. Taunt to shut down walls
* Toxapex is one of the best defensive pivots that can support Nihilego. It can switch into Water and Steel attacks, wall many physical attackers, and use Haze to check setup sweepers that might try to take advantage of Nihilego being locked into coverage moves.

Other Options

Poison
--------
* Nihilego has access to Dazzling Gleam over Thunderbolt wording is a bit of a problem here for added coverage against Fighting, Dark and Dragon types. This can be beneficial if its team is ill-equipped to handle these types otherwise, but it will leave Nihilego unable to do much damage to most Steel types. Additionally, Hidden Power Ice already provides some coverage against dragons, and will hit Garchomp harder than Dazzling Gleam.
* Psychic can be used over Thunderbolt to hit Poison types, but otherwise do not provide any useful coverage. Most Fighting types are dealt with more efficiently with Dazzling Gleam. I don't think this is worth a mention but if you want to keep it up to you
* Nihilego can equip Choice Specs over Choice Scarf for more immediate power, securing the 2HKO on Heatran and Celesteela with Power Gem and Thunderbolt, respectively. However, it will lose to almost every viable scarf user as a result of its unboosted speed. maybe state examples of Pokemon it won't outspeed Choice Scarf Choice Scarf Garchomp and some faster Pokemon Dugi and Gren are two example of the top of my head
* Nihilego can also run an effective suicide lead set with Focus Sash and either Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes, but this can be done to a similar effect by Nidoking and Nidoqueen, and isn't worth giving up its potential as a Choice Scarf user.
* An Air Balloon can be used to circumvent Nihilego's biggest weakness to ground, but leaves it open to faster threats that can KO it through other means. Nihilego can support its team better by utilizing its speed and power to their maximum potential, and rely on team support for dealing with Ground moves. mention how air balloon is only a one time thing this is very important because it emphasizes why it is outclassed even more

Checks and Counters
===================

Poison
--------
**Steel Types**: Steel types are immune to Poison and generally resistant to Rock and most coverage moves, and as a result can tank attacks from Nihilego with ease.

Exaca can switch in to all of Nihliego's coverage moves as well. Maybe talk about ground types that fear Grass Knot Mamoswine Gastro Toad because they're usually good at dealing with Nihilego bar Grass Knot

**Special Walls**: Even with multiple boosts from its ability, Nihilego will struggle to dent special walls that it cannot hit super effectively. Pokemon such as Chansey, Alolan Muk, and Cradily can take multiple attacks and either cripple it or outright KO it.

**Psychic Types**: Psychic types can not only hit Nihilego super effectively, but many of them learn Psyshock which will also hit its defense stat. As a result, Nihilego should avoid all Psychic types unless it can outspeed and OHKO with certainty. Mega-Alakazam is especially threatening as it can survive Power Gem after one boost, trace Beast Boost for itself and start to counter-sweep your team.

**Revenge Killers**: Nihilego must beware of revenge killers that either outspeed and OHKO (Choice Scarfers like Latios and Keldeo) or powerful priority attacks like Mega-Scizor's Bullet Punch and Azumarill's Aqua Jet. avoid using parenthesis use such as or namely instead

This is only rock-types maybe add some other type of Pokemon so it doesn't seem like only rock-type physical attackers counter Nihilego

**Paralysis**: Nihilego should avoid paralysis at all costs, as it will cut speed in half and make it much easier to outspeed and KO. For this reason, Nihilego should take extra precaution when switching into Electric moves as many of them can paralyze it as a secondary effect I would just talk about avoiding switching into Discharge especially from Zapdos instead of being a bit vague. Additionally, Thunder Wave from Thundurus-I and Klefki gains priority through Prankster very wordy, and will paralyze Nihilego before it takes its turn.

Oh, that was just a note because generally, "foes" means the opposing Pokemon and "opponents" refers to the player (human) you are facing. Sorry for not making that clear

* Nihilego should be saved for later in the match so that it can pick off weakened foes and boost its power, serving as an effective wincon condition.
* However, if the opponent has managed to boost itself set up and threaten the team, Nihilego can be brought in early to scare off or KO the threat at hand.
* Even after one boost, Nihilego still cannot break many special walls such as Chansey, so it should avoid trying to sweep until they've been sufficiently weakened or fainted KO.

Team Options
========

* Mega Venusaur is a great partner for Nihilego as because it can switch into almost any Water- or Ground-type attack comfortably due to its Grass typing. Nihilego appreciates Mega Venusaur's stellar physical bulk, and Mega Venusaur similarly appreciates Nihilego's Rock typing to help take Fire and Flying attacks and eliminate strong foes such as Mega Pinsir and Mega Charizard X and Y.
* Crobat provides an immunity to Nihilego's biggest weakness in Ground moves, (comma) and can Defog away entry hazards and screens. It can also help maintain momentum with U-turn, helping to bring in Nihilego safely on opponents Crobat scares away such as Mega Venusaur, and use Taunt on more defensive opponents, such as Chansey, that Nihilego struggles against.
* Alolan Muk is immune to Psychic-type attacks and can trap Psychic-types such as Choice Scarf Latios and Alolan Raichu who that would otherwise outspeed and KO Nihilego. It also provides utility with Knock Off, removing items and weakening opponents for a late-game sweep.
* Scolipede doesn't provide much defensive synergy, but it makes a great offensive partner as because it provide puts additional pressure on Steel- and Ground-types as well as bulky Psychic-types such as Mew and Slowbro, paving the way for Nihilego to sweep teams that only have one or two of these.
* Salazzle, though it is also a speedy special attacker, can outspeed and KO almost every Steel-type with its Fire-type attacks, including Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, (comma) and Magnezone, which Nihilego appreciates.
* Nidoking and Nidoqueen can also deal with many Steel- and Ground-types with Earth Power, Flamethrower, (comma) and Ice Beam, (comma) and can even set up Stealth Rock to help weaken the opponent's team for Nihilego to sweep.
* Gengar can run Hidden Power Ice and/or Thunderbolt to allow Nihilego to run alternative coverage, and is also able to run Focus Blast to take on Steel-(hyphen)types for Nihilego, (comma) as well as Taunt to shut down walls that Nihilego has trouble breaking.
* Toxapex is one of the best defensive pivots that can support Nihilego, as it can switch into Water- and Steel-type attacks, wall many physical attackers, and use Haze to check setup sweepers that might try to take advantage of Nihilego being locked into coverage moves.

Poison
--------
* Nihilego has access to can run Dazzling Gleam over Thunderbolt for added coverage against Fighting-, Dark-, (comma) and Dragon-types, but it will leave Nihilego unable to do much damage to most Steel-types. Hidden Power Ice already provides some coverage against Dragon-types, (comma) and will hit Garchomp harder than Dazzling Gleam.
However, it will lose to almost every viable Choice Scarf user as a result of its unboosted speed, (comma) including Garchomp and Victini, and will even lose to unboosted opponents in a higher speed tier such as Dugtrio and Greninja.
* Nihilego can also run an effective suicide lead set with Focus Sash and either Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes, but this can be done to a similar effect just as effectively by Nidoking and Nidoqueen, (comma) and isn't worth giving up its Nihilego's potential as a Choice Scarf user.
* An Air Balloon can be used to circumvent Nihilego's biggest weakness to Ground, but not only does it leaves Nihilego open to faster threats that can KO it through other means, (comma) but it also and still exposes it to Ground-type moves after it is popped takes a hit. Nihilego can support its team better by utilizing its speed and power to their maximum potential, (comma) and should rely on team support for dealing with Ground-type moves.

Checks and Counters
===================

Poison
--------
**Steel-Types**: Steel-types are immune to Poison and generally resistant to Rock and most coverage moves, and as a result can tank attacks from Nihilego with ease. Ferrothorn and Magearna are especially troublesome as because they do not take much damage from any of Nihilego's common coverage moves, (comma) and can either set up or OHKO it outright with Steel-type attacks.

**Ground-Types**: Ground-types resist both of Nihilego's STAB moves and can all OHKO it with Ground-type moves. Excadrill is especially deadly, (comma) as it can outspeed Nihilego if sand is up, (comma) and can OHKO with either STAB move, but other Ground-types such as Mamoswine or and Seismitoad can also remove Nihilego easily if it lacks Grass Knot.

**Special Walls**: Even with multiple boosts from its ability, Nihilego will struggle to dent special walls that it cannot hit super effectively. Pokemon such as Chansey, Alolan Muk, and Cradily can take multiple attacks and either cripple it or outright KO it.

**Psychic-Types**: Psychic-types deal super effective damage to Nihilego and also often use Psyshock, taking advantage of its poor Defense stat. As a result, Nihilego should avoid all Psychic-(hyphen)types unless it can outspeed and OHKO with certainty. Mega Alakazam is especially threatening, (comma) as it can survive Power Gem after one boost, trace copy Beast Boost for itself with Trace, and start to counter-sweep your team.

**Revenge Killers**: Nihilego must beware of revenge killers that either outspeed and OHKO Choice Scarf users, such as Latios and Keldeo, or use powerful priority attacks, (comma) including Mega Scizor's Bullet Punch and Azumarill's Aqua Jet.

**Physical Attacks**: Nihilego has poor defense, and as a result so even neutral physical attacks will cause large amounts of damage. Physical attackers that can hit Nihilego for neutral damage such as Terrakion, Breloom, (comma) and Tyranitar can OHKO it without using super effective attacks.

**Paralysis**: Nihilego should avoid paralysis at all costs, as it will cut its speed in half and to make it much easier to outspeed and KO. For this reason, Nihilego should take extra precaution when switching into Discharge, especially from Zapdos. Additionally, Thundurus-I and Klefki can easily paralyze Nihilego with priority Thunder Wave.

[OVERVIEW]

Poison
========
* Nihilego's high Special Attack and great Speed allow it to function as an efficient revenge killer and sweeper.
* Beast Boost allows Nihilego to boost its Special Attack with every KO, building momentum against a weakened team.
* Nihilego has access to rare Rock-type coverage, (comma) which is rare for Poison teams which and helps it sweep Fire and Flying teams.
* It sits at a unique speed tier, (comma) which that allows it to outspeed and KO many threatening foes such as Victini, Garchomp, Landorus-I, (that's the base forme, so there's no suffix) and Mega Charizard X and Y.
* Nihilego also boasts incredible special bulk that lets it take almost any neutral hit and even some super effective hits on the special side with ease, such as including Pelipper's Scald and Mega Venusaur's Giga Drain.
* Its typing is unique and provides a resistance to Fire- and Flying-type attacks. However, it is also doubly weak to Ground moves and adds a Water and Steel weaknesses, making it weak to priority attacks from Azumarill and Scizor.
* Despite great special bulk, its Defense stat is poor, leaving it unable to deal with physical attackers that can either outspeed or otherwise avoid being KOed by Nihilego it.
* Even with its high Special Attack, Nihilego is dependent on Beast Boost for power, (comma) as its unboosted damage output is not amazing. Opponents like Infernape are able to survive any unboosted attack and retaliate in return.
* Additionally, the combination of Rock- and Poison-type STAB moves is mediocre due to reduced damage on both being resisted by Ground- and Steel-types, forcing Nihilego to rely on coverage moves such as Hidden Power and Thunderbolt to check these opponents.

Moves
========

* Power Gem is Nihilego's most reliable STAB attack, allowing it to OHKO threats such as Victini and Mega-(hyphen)Charizard X and sweep Fire and Flying teams once key defensive threats are weakened.
* Sludge Wave is its most powerful attack, hitting Fairy-types opponents such as Tapu Koko and Tapu Bulu super effectively and causing major damage to anything that doesn't resist it.
* Hidden Power Ice allows Nihilego to OHKO Landorus-I, Gliscor, and Garchomp, (comma) which are major threats to Poison teams, (comma) after a little prior damage which will threaten the team otherwise.
* Thunderbolt provides the best coverage in tandem with the other 3 moves and is often Nihilego's best option against Steel-types such as Celesteela as well as opponents like Toxapex and Mega Gyarados.
* Hidden Power Fire can be used instead of Hidden Power Ice to hit Steel-(hyphen)types hard, able to 2HKOing Excadrill, defensive Mega Scizor, and Ferrothorn.
* Grass Knot can be used instead of Thunderbolt to pressure Ground-types more, OHKOing threats such as Mamoswine and Seismitoad, but is inferior in terms of overall coverage and leaves Nihilego helpless against Steel-types.

Set Details
========

* The EVs above allow cause Beast Boost to increase Special Attack by one stage with each KO. Coupled with its Nihilego's high speed, it can allow Nihilego to sweep a weakened team with ease.
