Sopor Aeternus & the Ensemble of Shadows - Anima II

Basically the followup to Anima II in the same album. It focuses heavily on classic percussion and various layers of choir vocals to make the basic melody. Anna Varney Cantodea's voice and lyrics are as dark as ever, expressing sentences such as "I wish to cut my genitals and feed them to the dogs".

Though she's rather freaky (just look at her lastfm pics), she's IMO one of the best examples of Darkwave music, along with Black Tape for a Blue Girl.
 
The Fall Of Troy - F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.

I fell in love with this song. Downloaded Doppelgänger yesterday and dear God, this is an awesome band. The screaming parts are quite limited, so that's a huge bonus for me as the vocals in general are quite good. So far, this is the best song on the album.

Katatonia - My Twin

I'm in love with this song. Katatonia are probably my favourite doom metal band (although it's not so much doom metal as atmospheric metal), but the gloomy melodies of Katatonia have a hold on me always and even though they revel in the depression and bleakness of their own music there is a kind of sing-along catchy quality to most of their stuff, they have a lot of effective hooks.

Renske's vocals are some sort of tenor croon, they sound bleak and depressing, but not without emotion... they convey a bitter pain, a kind of pain that you get from staring at grey skies for too long, a sombreness, the kind of bleakness you get from being depressed for too long without any alleviation.

Perfect music for people who are on Prozac and forget to take their pills. Or just for people like me who like to bask in the darkness and bleakness of humanity.

Blockhead - The Art of Walking

Okay, so I've been getting into a lot of electronic/instrumental shit lately and I absolutely cannot get over this track. In fact, the whole album (Downtown Science) is genius.

This song makes me think of a soulful bus driver driving a school bus full of kids and they're just grooving to the track. It's just upbeat, with samples of lyrics from some funk song, cherry violin riffs popping up from nowhere and a killer bass line.

I think I love this track aaaa.
 
30 Secons To Mars - The Kill

I like songs with good a Chorus that raises it's tone, I guess. Not to mention that I enjoy the actual singing and the song itself.
 
Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over

Great, relaxing acoustic music. Jeff Buckley is a win singer.

Jesu - Don't Dream It

not given this album much of a look in, with the release of the far superior Lifeline within the same few weeks, and this song is a great opener.
 
Deep Puddle Dynamics - Deep Puddle Theme Song

Another one of anticon.'s great collobarations. Probably my favourite track by these guys and a great way to start off the album. Nice beat too.

why? - gemini (birthday song)

this has grown to be my favourite why? song. its more folky than hip-hoppy, and its so lyrically brilliant. the piano is pure genius. the way he says 'gemini' gives me butterflies, theres something about it thats just so absurdly beautiful.

Pearl Jam - Aye Davanita

If this song was their last on "Vitology" I'd consider it a hidden track, it kind of slips away from the rest of the songs. It's almost impossible to understand the monotonous lyrics, that end up saying "Aye Davanita" all over again, still, it has a good beat and a nice use of the instruments, I'm not sure if the vocals here are Vedder's or not, but they don't seem familiar.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop

This was the first RHCP song I ever heard, and what got me into them to begin with. It is still one of my favorite songs by them. 9.5/10

Alicia Keys- Fallin'

This is by far my favorite mainstream pop single of this decade. Keys has an amazing voice, and the lyrics just flow well. The simplistic but energetic piano beat in the background compliments these things nicely as well. 9.5/10

if you have ever listened to this song, you know what im tlaking about and if you haven't listened to this song, here it is. listen it. NOW. you don't know what your missing. probbaly has the most famous riff of all time. is arguably one of the most famous metal songs EVER!!!! (next quote is straight out of of wikipedia)

King Crimson - Industry

The thing about King Crimson songs is that no matter how monotonous they are, they still are amazing (and Industry is proof of this). It starts off with drums, then the sax enters, halfway through this song they start using violins, which is common for King Crimson songs, they also pull the bass' strings violently and rapidly from time to time to create a wicked yet simple effect (which is my favorite part of the song). This is what you'd expect from King Crimson's finest in experimental songs.

Constance Demby - Radiance

I randomly discovered her this week on lastfm and I'm glad I did. This is a two track album each track spanning 20 minutes, which isn't odd for New Age music of its time which focused more on an ambient sound rather than electronic music, though synths WERE used.

As with its previous track, the hammered dulcimer is the main instrument, but what sets it apart is the dreamish vocalization that last through most of the track. A sweet ambient sound further adds beauty to this amazing track, making it great for relaxation, though I hate to relate this term with New Age music. I'll make an exception though.
