PU Politoed (mini) [QC 2/2] (GP 1/1)

[OVERVIEW]

Without Drizzle, Politoed is a generic ho-hum defensive Water-type in the metagame. Politoed is average and does not perform any role exceptionally well. While not necessarily bad, it lacks the practicality and utility of other defensive Water-types such as Jellicent due to its convenient secondary typing, access to moves like Will-O-Wisp and Taunt, and reliable recovery. Politoed fails to keep up with the abundance of threatening wallbreakers such as Stoutland and setup sweepers such as Lilligant.

[SET]
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Protect / Encore
move 2: Scald
move 3: Toxic
move 4: Rest
item: Chesto Berry
ability: Water Absorb
nature: Calm
evs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Politoed, with its good bulk and fair defensive typing, can check certain Pokemon including Omastar and Regirock. Through the use of Toxic + Rest, Politoed will try to stall the opposing Pokemon to death. Unfortunately, its lack of a second typing and useful utility moves like Taunt, Volt Switch, and Circle Throw make it less feasible than Jellicent, Lanturn, and Poliwrath.

While not necessarily bad, it lacks the practicality and utility of other defensive Water-types such as Jellicent, due to its superior movepool (what does jellicent get that makes it outclass politoed? mention will-o-wisp and access to a better recovery move in Recover). It really isn't anything special and fails to keep up with the abundance of threatening wallbreakers and setup sweepers in PU (examples?).

Politoed, with its good bulk and defensive typing, can check the profuse (tbh we dont have too many good waters, we have like 3) amounts of offensive Water-types and Ice-types in the tier (examples?). Through the use of Toxic + Rest, Politoed will try to stall the opposing Pokemon to death. Unfortunately, its lack of a second typing and useful utility moves like Taunt, Volt Switch, and Circle Throw make it less feasible than Jellicent, Lanturn, and Poliwrath respectively.

Politoed, with its good bulk and fair defensive typing, can check some of the offensive Ice-types in the tier including Sandslash-Alola and non-Specs Aurorus it doesnt check aurorus well, sandslash is really the only ice type it's gonna be beating ever. Through the use of Toxic + Rest, Politoed will try to stall the opposing Pokemon to death. Unfortunately, its lack of a second typing and useful utility moves like Taunt, Volt Switch, and Circle Throw make it less feasible than Jellicent, Lanturn, and Poliwrath respectively.

implemented! i replaced the aurorus mention with froslass instead. please let me know if i should remove froslass as well

ready for another qc check

I'd omit ice types all together, froslass taunts you and turns you into spikes fodder and smth like alolaslash still does an uncomfortable amount with +2 eq. you check mesprit and specs jelli better than poliwrath which is a small niche it has ig.

I have nothing else to add so qc 2/2 after you implement the above
