SM OU Rate My Weeb Team! (1300 on ladder)

Yes, Weeb Team, the nicknames are incredibly dumb and weaboo-ish, don't tell me.

171233

Ninjoint (Kartana) @ Choice Band
Ability: Beast Boost
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Sacred Sword
- Smart Strike
- Knock Off

I picked Kartana because Steel is probably the most important type for a team to have and I originally had a Mega-Mawile here but thought that since it didn't make sense with the team structure Kartana is another stat-boosting Steel type that is strong (and fast)! It also really helps that Kartana can shut down Special Walls and it is just an amazing Pokemon in general. Moves are simple, just Knock Off hits hard, not too many resistances to it, Leaf Blade / Smart Strike is stab, and Sacred Sword is coverage. Choice Band makes it nuke everything.

171234

Tokitozuka (Greninja) (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Battle Bond
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Spikes

Greninja has always been on the team, he nukes anything in the rain, and is one of the Top 5 Pokemon in OU. Hydro Pump for stab, Dark Pulse for stab, Ice Beam for coverage, and Spikes for a switch read which = free hazards. You might be saying, why no Water Shuriken? I never used it when I had it, yeah. It's a good move but Ice Beam really gives Greninja the extra coverage while Water Shuriken gives priority to an already lightning fast Pokemon. If anyone could explain the use of Water Shuriken please do so! I might add it back if I see the implication.

171235

Akira Ono (Gliscor) (F) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 244 HP / 52 Def / 100 SpD / 112 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Protect

Gliscor is the Pokemon I feel most iffy about. She definitely gets kills and fulfills her role but I don't know if their is a better option? She is fat and the best damage sponge on the team, and can whittle down unsuspecting opponents with toxic, along with helping the team with resistances and dropping unsuspecting EQs on peoples precious Toxapex and other annoying Pokemon. She also is very important as a Stealth Rock user and can heal themselves immensely while being safe (protect and toxic orb)

171241

Haruo Yaguchi (Pelipper) @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 36 Def / 224 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- U-turn
- Defog
- Hurricane

Well this one is self explanatory, Pelipper is the only viable rain setter. Scald penalizes physical attackers while being a good move anyways. U-Turn gives the team more momentum which is nice, Defog is very important because this team loses to Sticky Web pretty bad, and hazard spam is incredibly annoying. Hurricane is a strong move which has 100% chance to hit in rain.

171247

Kurosawa (Swampert) (M) @ Swampertite
Ability: Damp
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Superpower

Swampert is a must on all rain teams. He is extremely fast, extremely strong, (without the use of locking into a move!) and has great coverage. Waterfall and EQ are necessary stab moves, Ice Punch is great coverage and hits really hard against unsuspecting Pokemon, and Superpower helps against a multitude of Pokemon but most notably Ferrothorn. Damp can also cheese a Landorus-T explosion.

171248

Apple Risotto (Victini) @ Normalium Z
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Celebrate
- Searing Shot
- Stored Power
- Focus Blast

So I was scouring for a Pokemon that could patch up all the Pokemon on this teams current type weaknesses. After some weird experimentation of different Pokemon, I found the perfect one. Victini is a setup sweeper which is not a role already on this team. They are the best way to check Steel types on my team. Even unboosted, she does a lot of damage. When boosted with Z-Celebrate, they are pretty bulk, very fast, and most importantly, DESTROYS EVERYTHING IN HER PATH WITH SEARING SHOT AND FOCUS BLAST!!! oh yeah focus blast is cool too.

Hey, your team looks pretty decent but I’d like to suggest some improvements.

Major Changes:

171265
—->
171264

Ferrothorn over Kartana gives a much sturdier water and psychic resist for Ash Greninja, Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele, and others while supplying entry hazards in Stealth Rock and generally being a really important component to the team’s success. Plus, Kartana doesn’t really benefit rain enough to the point where it’s worth it to have it. And it doesn’t have much defensive value which you seemed to imply in your explanation.

171263
—->
171262

Tornadus-T over Gliscor gives a way to check Kartana, Tapu Bulu, Ferrothorn, and other Pokemon that can give rain trouble while maintaining momentum with U-Turn, using Knock Off to cripple the opponent which helps Greninja a lot, and bringing some good natural speed as outside Greninja, the team lacks natural speed as is. It also lets you remove Defog from Pelipper.

171267
—->
171266

Magearna over Victini gives a good set-up sweeper, dark resist for opposing Ash Greninja, and benefits from the fact Heatran, one of it’s best checks, is pretty much useless against this team, which makes setting up and sweeping way easier. Also, Victini isn’t good on rain due to it’s STAB Fire moves being weakened while making opposing Water-types be even more liable to kill it, especially opposing Ash Greninja. And relieving your team from another Stealth Rock weakness is nice.

Minor Changes:

171261
Ash Greninja should be Water Shuriken over Ice Beam to give priority, which is boosted by rain to be super strong and helpful to beat faster opposing Pokemon like scarfers and Mega Alakazam. And Ice Beam’s coverage isn’t good or helpful enough to justify it over Water Shuriken, which is very crucial to Greninja’s viability.

171269
Pelipper should be Roost over Defog as now that Tornadus is Defog, you don’t need it on Pelipper and on top of that, keeping Pelipper healthy so it can set rain is a big part of how these teams can be successful and Roost plays a big role in that.

Threatlist:

171270
Stall: This team doesn’t have reliable methods to break stall, so naturally the matchup against it is a bit shaky. Just try to get up hazards with Greninja and Ferrothorn and apply offensive pressure with Swampert.

171268
Tapu Fini: This thing can take hits from almost every member on your team while having it’s Scald strengthened which makes switching in difficult. And it can even Defog away Greninja’s Spikes. It’s beatable as long as you pressure it with repeated hits or potentially a Knock Off as Tapu Fini doesn’t have reliable recovery so it’s proned to getting worn down.

Hope you consider these ideas and hope I helped!

Major Changes:
I can't give up Victini, it is one of the few ways I can counter bulky Grass Types and Volcarona. The thing with the changes you made is I can't just change 1-2 of the Pokemon, it would ruin the entire team. The first game I tried with this team the opponent lead with Volcarona, set up 1 Quiver Dance, and won. So all the Pokemon are still the same.

Minor Changes:
Ash Greninja now has Water Shuriken, I've found it helpful now.
Pelipper still has Defog because I'm not using the new Pokemon, it's not the best but I've hadn't had any big problems with it.

Threatlist:
To beat Stall and Tapu Fini I have the same strategy. Try to read their moves with Greninja, Kartana, or Megapert and destroy everything.

Ok, why can’t you give up Victini? I put Tornadus to counter bulky Grass-types and Volcarona somewhat but you have rain for that. It feels like Victini is a Pokemon you personally like and want to defend keeping for some reason, which is a bad mentallity in a competitive setting, especially Pokemon. And how does the changes I made ruin the whole team? I know it’s hard to grasp this idea but just changing one or two Pokemon doesn’t instantly ruin or change a team’s identity. And my biggest question, how the fuck did Volcarona sweep you with a rain team? lmao. That’s just you being not good dude, sorry, no sugar coating. That’s not my team’s fault. If anything, it’s better vs Volcarona now with Tapu Fini. Don’t blame your lack of skill on my building, ok? And not having Roost on defensive Pelipper is just gimping yourself for no reason because you then lose the ability to keep setting rain, all because you don’t to fix your team for some reason. And by the way, that’s not really a clear description of how you beat stall or Fini, elaborate on that please. If you’re gonna ask for help on a team, don’t just ignore all the help someone offers, especially when they explain it. It’s rude in a way and makes you seem very close minded and egotistical over your own team.
