Hawlucha [QC 0/3]

[OVERVIEW]

With the combination of Electric Seed and Unburden, Hawlucha can become an incredibly threatening sweeper that outspeeds even Choice Scarf users like Weavile and Greninja. Hawlucha provides a lot of utility for hyper offensive teams, massively improving the teams matchup against Aurumoth and Necturna. Additionally, Hawlucha has a favorable matchup against many defensive staples, such as Arghonaut, Ferrothorn, and Tangrowth, meaning that it can be really easy to put Hawlucha into favorable positions. However, Hawlucha is often held back by its over reliance on its Unburden boost, and as an extension, Tapu Koko. Without a Swords Dance boost, Hawlucha is rather weak, and it sometimes may even struggle to use Swords Dance to begin with, making it a rather inconsistent sweeper. The fact that it has to use High Jump Kick to significantly dent Pokemon like Celesteela is also unfortunate for Hawlucha when considering the ubiquity of Ghost-types such as Kitsunoh, Necturna, and Pajantom in the metagame.

[SET]
name: Unburden Sweeper
move 1: Acrobatics
move 2: High Jump Kick
move 3: Swords Dance
move 4: Roost
item: Electric Seed
ability: Unburden
nature: Adamant
evs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Roost allow Hawlucha to set up on Pokemon like Celesteela and Garchomp consistently. Instead of Roost, Substitute can be used to ignore status moves like Leech Seed and Toxic.

Set Details
========

Electric Seed in tandem with Unburden synergizes really well with Tapu Koko, allowing Hawlucha to outspeed the entire boosted metagame, making it a potent sweeper. Electric Seed also grants Hawlucha a boost to its Defense, which makes it easier to set up with Swords Dance. 176 Speed EVs allow Hawlucha to outspeed +2 Speed Timid Aurumoth after it has consumed its Electric Seed.

Usage Tips
========

Hawlucha works the best as a late-game sweeper, so you should wait with consuming its Electric Seed until it can sweep. However, if a sweeper like Necturna or Aurumoth is setting up, you should definitely switch into Hawlucha to prevent them from sweeping. Once it's safe to clean up with Hawlucha during the late-game, you should use Pokemon like Arghonaut and Tangrowth to set up with Swords Dance against.

Team Options
========

Hawlucha fits the best on hyper offensive screens setting teams, which allow it to setup much easier. Particularly, Tapu Koko is a great teammate, as it can set Reflect and Light Screen, as well as Electric Terrain. Hazard leadssuch as Landorus-T, Excadrill, and Greninja are particularly great with Hawlucha, as hazards can consistently wear the opposition down. Other sweepers like Aurumoth, Magearna, and Caribolt are also really useful Pokemon that fit on the same type of teams as Hawlucha that can weaken the opposition for Hawlucha to clean up late-game.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Hawlucha can also be used alongside Tapu Lele or Tapu Fini with Psychic Seed or Misty Seed, respectively. However, they generally don't synergize well together. Additionally, Tapu Lele and Tapu Fini do not fit on hyper offensive teams. Stone Edge can be run to OHKO Zapdos after Stealth Rock damage, but it doesn't offer much besides that. Drain Punch can be run instead of Roost, as it can make it significantly easier for Hawlucha late-game. Notably, unlike High Jump Kick, though weaker, it lets Hawlucha avoid taking recoil damage from High Jump Kick when a Ghost-type switches in. Roost, however, is often still preferred because it makes it a lot easier for Hawlucha to set up. Poison Jab is also an option that can be run to OHKO Tapu Koko, but it's weaker than Acrobatics against most other Fairy-types.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Electric-types such as Tapu Koko, Zapdos, and Cyclohm can easily take any of Hawlucha's moves, even at +2 and retaliate with their STAB moves. Tapu Koko is quickly worn down into the range of a +2 High Jump Kick if hazards are on the field, though.

**Physical Walls**: Physical walls such as Toxapex and Reuniclus can take even Hawlucha's boosted moves with ease and can pressure it with Scald burns, Toxic, or Psyshock.

**Priority**: Syclant, Mega Pinsir, and Ash-Greninja can pick off Hawlucha with Ice Shard, Quick Attack, and Water Shuriken. None can outright OHKO it, though, so it must be sufficiently weakened first.

* However, Hawlucha is often held back by its over reliance on Tapu Koko and a Swords Dance boost. it's even more reliant on Unburden to double its speed, which only happens once
* Without a Swords Dance boost, Hawlucha will struggle a lot to deal with defensive Pokemon such as Toxapex and Cyclohm.
* The fact that it has to use High Jump Kick to significantly dent Pokemon like Celesteela is also unfortunate for Hawlucha when considering the ubiquity of Ghost-types such as Kitsunoh, Necturna, and Pajantom in the metagame.

do the hp evs do anything?

warn about there being an opposing tapu that can make electric seed not work with good switching imo

* Without a Swords Dance boost, Hawlucha will struggle a lot to deal with defensive Pokemon such as Toxapex and Cyclohm. - This is true, but it misses out on the fact that Lucha also needs to find free sd turns to break through mons like Magearna, which is more important than the fact that Lucha needs to sd to hurt mons that still wall it anyway.
* The fact that it has to use High Jump Kick to significantly dent Pokemon like Celesteela is also unfortunate for Hawlucha when considering the ubiquity of Ghost-types such as Kitsunoh, Necturna, and Pajantom in the metagame.

* Hawlucha can also be used alongside Tapu Lele or Tapu Fini with Psychic Seed or Misty Seed, respectively. However, they generally don't synergize well together. Additionally, Hawlucha doesn't really fit on the teams these Pokemon find themselves on. You can probably specify that Hawlucha is for HO and Lele and Fini don't really fit there.
* Stone Edge can be run to hit Zapdos, but it doesn't offer much besides that. - I'd say OHKO Zapdos after Rocks.
* Poison Jab is also an option that can be run to OHKO Tapu Koko, but it doesn't do hit anything besides that. I've seen a common misconception go around that pjab hits Clefable harder than Acrobatics, maybe instead of saying it doesn't hit anything else you could say that it's weaker than Acrobatics on every other target.
- Drain Punch is worth OO imo, makes endgames involving hitting High Jump Kick and not HJKing Ghost-types much easier, whilst still providing some recovery to stay out of range of priority. Make sure to specify that this goes over Roost, and that Roost is still preferred because it allows Hawlucha to set up more comfortably.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Physical Walls**: Physical walls such as Toxapex and Reuniclus can take even Hawlucha's boosted moves with ease and can pressure it with Scald burns, Toxic, or Psyshock. Swap the order of this point and the Electric-types point, the electrics are better checks.
