Milotic (Revamp) (QC 1/3)

[OVERVIEW]

  • Milotic has nice defensive stats and because of that has a niche as a bulky Water-type Pokemon in the tier. Fitting best on Balance and Bulky Offense teams
  • Haze as a small niche in its ability to stop bulky Pokemon such as Necrozma, Cresselia, and Slowbro from setting up but it is mainly used to combat Snorlax set up.
  • Thanks to Refresh and Scald it is able to inflict status while being able to remove its own which lets it beat other bulky Pokemon that rely on status to beat it.
  • Milotic is very weak and because of that it offers very little offensively letting a lot of Pokemon come in on it such as Raikou, Mega Ampharos, Dragalge, Goodra, and Machamp without any real consequence even if its also running Ice Beam.
  • Because of this it is outclassed by other bulky Water-type Pokemon in the tier such as Slowbro and Gastrodon.

[SET]
name: Physically Defensive
move 1: Scald
move 2: Recover
move 3: Haze
move 4: Refresh / Ice Beam
item: Leftovers
ability: Marvel Scale
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Scald is Milotic's best choice of STAB as a defensive Pokemon as it has a 30% chance to burn the Pokemon it comes in to check or the opponents incoming switch in.
  • Recover allows Milotic to stay in a match up longer and reliable check Pokemon throughout a match.
  • Haze is used to combat set up Pokemon, mainly Snorlax but also other Pokemon such as Necrozma and Slowbro that might want to take advantage of Milotic's pitiful offensive stats.
  • Refresh allows Milotic to remove status from itself letting it one vs one other bulky Pokemon that rely on status to beat it such as Registeel.
  • Ice Beam hits Dragon- and Grass-type Pokemon for super effective damage as they resist Scald. It can be useful versus Noivern and incoming Grass-type checks. However, Refresh works better with Milotics defensive nature.

Set Details
========

  • Milotic invest all of its EVs into both HP and Def with a bold nature as it already has amazing natural SpDef and benefits from being able to take on physical attackers as well.
  • Marvel Scale allows Milotic to gain extra bulk when inflicted by status. If it was to be burnt it can benefit from keeping the burn status as it will take considerably less from incoming attacks.

Usage Tips
========

  • Make the most of Milotics ability to Haze set up sweepers. Bring it in on Pokemon such as Snorlax, Necrozma, Slowbro, and Cresselia while trying to have it in before Barbaracle or Cloyster sets up in order to halt them.
  • If the opposition has set up Pokemon make sure to keep Milotic somewhat healthy so it is able to deal with them.
  • Even though Milotic is fully invested into physical defense its natural SpDef is good enough to check Pokemon such as Mega Blastoise and Gardevoir so make sure to make use of that
  • If Milotic is not using Refresh avoid Toxic as much as possible
  • Despite being fully physical defense invested Milotic can still struggle to take hits from Banded Pokemon such as Zygarde-10%, Tyrantrum, and Metagross so be weary of what its limits are.

Team Options
========

  • Milotic is heavily pressured by Grass- and Electric-type Pokemon so Pokemon that check them are essential. Milotic works well in a Fire, Water, Grass core so Pokemon such as Tangela and Arcanine can be very useful in dealing with these threats.
  • Other defensive Pokemon that lose to common set up Pokemon like Snorlax are appreciative of Milotics ability to Haze. This includes the likes of Registeel, Bronzong, Umbreon, Porygon2, and Cresselia.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Milotic can make use of Dragon Tail as it can be more useful vs some set up sweepers more so than Haze. It also has better synergy with hazards than Haze does. However, Dragon Tail has less PP and has a miss chance so is less reliable than Haze.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Grass-type Pokemon all threaten Milotic out fearing super effective attacks with Shaymin and Roserade not fearing burns thanks to Natural Cure.

**Electric-types**: Raikou, Rotom-C and Mega Ampharos are able to come in on Milotic thanks to its abysmal offensive stats and force it out with fear of Electric-type attacks.

**Fighting-types**: Guts Machamp and Toxicroak can easily check Milotic as Machamp can take advantage of a burn status thanks to Guts. Toxicroak is immune to Scald thanks to Dry Skin and Milotic becomes set up fodder.

  • This is because despite Milotics bulk is is susceptible to heavy physical attacks from Zygarde-10%, Machamp, and Metagross without any way to combat them as much as Slowbro does. It also can not withstand special attackers like Raikou and Mega Ampharos like Gastrodon is able too.
  • Due to multiple Pokemon Milotic checked losing relevance in the tier such Doublade, Feraligatr, and Mega Glalie its niche of Haze is no longer as important as it once was in RU.
    (i dont think those 2 points are necessary, just talk about it getting outclassed)

  • Milotic has no viable other options
    (not really true, mention dragon tail since it can be more usefull vs some sweepers and works well with hazards)

**Wallbreakers**: Banded Pokemon such as Zygarde-10%, Tyrantrum, and Metagross are able to break Milotic fairly well. Pokemon like Guts Machamp and Normalium Z Bewear can also easily take on Milotic without much hassle. (most of those could potentially lose 1v1 vs milotic, so i would just talk about toxicroak and machamp)
should be fine after those changes, qc 1/3

Hope you don't mind two am checks in one day. Just a few things I noticed. You know my colors. :)

Haze is THE reason to consider using Milotic. It needs to be emphasized above its "nice stats". I would simply rewrite this as "Milotic's access to Haze along with its decent bulk gives it a slight edge over other bulky Water-types in RU." And just delete the first sentence.
  • Thanks to Refresh and Scald it is able to inflict status while being able to remove its own which lets it beat other bulky Pokemon that rely on status to beat it. This is correct, but I don't like the way it's written. Try "Refresh also allows Milotic to heal itself from status conditions, allowing it to act as a status absorber."
  • Milotic is very weak and because of that it offers very little offensively letting a lot of Pokemon come in on it such as Raikou, Mega Ampharos, Dragalge, Goodra, and Machamp without any real consequence even if its also running Ice Beam. Mega Ampharos isn't the best thing to mention anymore. I would just delete it since you list enough stuff here.
  • Because of this it is outclassed by other bulky Water-type Pokemon in the tier such as Slowbro and Gastrodon. Milotic is passive, but this isn't the only reason why Slowbro and Gastrodon are better. Slowbro and Gastrodon simply have better defensive typings, stats, and abilities that are usually more helpful to a team.
  • I would mention its vulnerability to Taunt and status if it isn't running Refresh.

What appreciates Milotic's ability to beat set up sweepers? How about stuff that can beat Toxicroak and Machamp? Stuff that can beat Electric- and Grass-types?

[OVERVIEW]

  • Milotic has nice defensive stats and because of that has a niche as a bulky Water-type Pokemon in the tier. Fitting best on Balance and Bulky Offense teams this reads like fluff. is there any other info you can add here? stuff it counters, usefulness of typing ect
  • Haze as a small niche in its ability to stop bulky Pokemon such as Necrozma, Cresselia, and Slowbro from setting up but it is mainly used to combat Snorlax set up. Haze is THE reason to consider using Milotic. It needs to be emphasized above its "nice stats". I would simply rewrite this as "Milotic's access to Haze along with its decent bulk gives it a slight edge over other bulky Water-types in RU." And just delete the first sentence. snorlax is definitely not as relevant as youre making it out to be, just say haze gives it a good niche vs setup
  • Thanks to Refresh and Scald it is able to inflict status while being able to remove its own which lets it beat other bulky Pokemon that rely on status to beat it. This is correct, but I don't like the way it's written. Try "Refresh also allows Milotic to heal itself from status conditions, allowing it to act as a status absorber." do that but most importantly always give examples - mention stuff that depends on status for damage and pokemon that are afraid of scald
I would just delete it since you list enough stuff here. goodra and drag dont have recovery and kinda dislike the chip. you can still talk abt them but mention non ice beam variants.
  • Because of this it is outclassed by other bulky Water-type Pokemon in the tier such as Slowbro and Gastrodon. Milotic is passive, but this isn't the only reason why Slowbro and Gastrodon are better. Slowbro and Gastrodon simply have better defensive typings, stats, and abilities that are usually more helpful to a team. well.. both of these are also pretty passive so i dont really see your point? go with what justoon said
  • I would mention its vulnerability to Taunt and status if it isn't running Refresh.
  • id also mention how milo just wasnt that good because the meta shifted to a more offensive one and it didnt appreciate its passivity and didnt particularly need milo's ability to beat bulky mons. you can translate that into analysis writing by saying its abilities arent that great vs offense if ur not outright walling a mon - but that its pretty amazing vs bulky offense / balance cause of its good fat matchup
  • also u need a positive bullet on its high pp which lets it win vs lots of bulky stuff by just pp stalling

evs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 148 SpD

spdef is a lot more valuable than def atm, mostly cause slowbro is better at that lol. please update your analysis accordingly

  • Scald is Milotic's best choice of STAB as a defensive Pokemon as it has a 30% chance to burn the Pokemon it comes in to check or the opponents incoming switch in.
  • Recover allows Milotic to stay in a match up longer and reliable check Pokemon throughout a match. fluff
  • Haze is used to combat set up Pokemon, mainly Snorlax but also other Pokemon such as Necrozma and Slowbro that might want to take advantage of Milotic's pitiful offensive stats. snorlax is like.. b right now? dont give it so much importance. also mention other examples, you already used these exact 3 in the overview
  • Refresh allows Milotic to remove status from itself letting it one vs one other bulky Pokemon that rely on status to beat it such as Registeel. mention it makes it v effective against passive teams cause they cant really do much to it and include its high pp letting u pp stall quite a lot
  • Ice Beam hits Dragon- and Grass-type Pokemon for super effective damage as they resist Scald. It can be useful versus Noivern and incoming Grass-type checks. However, Refresh works better with Milotic's defensive nature. mention this improves the offense matchup and makes u more threatening vs teams that rely on grasses / dragons to check milo in expense of refresh's super high pp and usefulness vs fat

I hate the way this is written. Try "Milotic is as physically bulky as possible with the given investment while still being able to switch into specially offenive Pokemon like Mega Blastoise." change this to current spread: survives timid queen's tbolt after rocks as well as necrozma's +1 geyser > regular geyser after rocks, also makes u safer in case of a mega blastoise flinch lol
  • Marvel Scale allows Milotic to gain extra bulk when inflicted by status. If it was to be burnt it can benefit from keeping the burn status as it will take considerably less from incoming attacks. This is correct, but the second sentence feels more like a usage tip. A useful one, actually.

Usage Tips

  • Make the most of Milotics ability to Haze set up sweepers. Bring it in on Pokemon such as Snorlax, Necrozma, Slowbro, and Cresselia while trying to have it in before Barbaracle or Cloyster sets up in order to halt them. again, use other examples pls. you can repeat some of them but youre making it look as if this is the only pool of mons haze helps against
  • If the opposition has set up Pokemon make sure to keep Milotic somewhat healthy so it is able to deal with them.
  • Even though Milotic is fully invested into physical defense its natural SpDef is good enough to check Pokemon such as Mega Blastoise and Gardevoir so make sure to make use of that Gardevoir could just as easily go for Trick. Not a good idea. also update with current spread
  • If Milotic is not using Refresh avoid Toxic as much as possible Switch this with the last sentence. It helps with the flow.

  • mention competitive - not necessarily an offensive set
  • toxic
  • mirror coats kinda cool - up 2 u
  • u can also mention flame orb as a "warning" kinda, just highlight all the problems w the set

**Grass-types**: Grass-type Pokemon all threaten Milotic out fearing super effective attacks with Shaymin and Roserade not fearing burns thanks to Natural Cure. They all get chipped by Ice Beam, especially Mega Sceptile.

**Electric-types**: Raikou, Rotom-C and Mega Ampharos are able to come in on Milotic thanks to its abysmal offensive stats and force it out with fear of Electric-type attacks. rotom c and amphy havent been relevant in quite a while. also u can add elec coverage from the likes of queen and such
