on smogon I feel like its definitely the correct way to play, on mafia 451 I'd agree with you maybe.
Why?
at the risk of sounding condescending, because you have a few very good players, a lot of obvious but less experienced players, and a lot of hard lurkers which means that towns here have to be much more centralized to succeed imo.

sure would have been nice if town was more centralized in that 451 game so idk how much I buy that logic, will defer to dusk though since he seems to have the most experience in both worlds.
that game was a significant outlier as dusk would confirm as well.
