SPOILERS! Pokemon Sword & Shield Pre-Release SPOILERS - Check Post 2!

Eiscue seems to have an incredibly specific niche of checking Fighting types on Hail teams, which other Pokémon can probably do better. Otherwise, Rock-types and specially oriented Fire types shouldn't have much problem taking it down. Keep in mind the most common attacking Rock moves (including the physical ones) don't make contact: Stone Edge, Power Gem, Rock Slide...

It says 'physical attack' in the ability's description, nothing about contact. There definitely will be mind games where something could set up and then Dynamax to break the ice and change the weather at the same time.

I'm kind of on the fence on how good Eiscue actually will be. He requires Hail to do much and doesn't seem to have great stats or typing. So you either need to run it on a dedicated Hail team or make it actually spend a turn using Hail. Is it going to be actually good, or will it be too passive to really make itself valuable in a game? How scared are you of just getting nailed by a coverage Flamethrower? Is it going to make use of its free turns or is it just going to function like a glorified Sub / Seed Whimsicott that any competent team can play around?

At least Mimikyu gets Swords Dance.

It'll be like Shedinja IMO. OP on paper but not great in practice. Many mons have 1 mixed move just for coverage (Some TTar run Fire Blast for example despite being a special attack), many mons have status moves that cripple the opponent, it's kit is probably not good enough to be terrifying even when it does set up hail (so you'll have the whole invincible sturdy Aaron effect), there's going to be easy ways to change the whether via Dynamax moves, etc.

I'm glad that we're at least getting a decent amount of new Pokemon that have a base speed above 100. Like in gen 7 having a base speed of 100 would put you in the top 10, including ties. That gen was slow as hell.

Still don’t get why people are comparing this to Mimikyu

Pincurchin
Sea Urchin Pokemon
1'
2.2 lbs
It stores electricity in each spine. Even if one gets broken off, it still continues to emit electricity for at least three hours.

In practice they will never compete for the same role though- Eiscue is clearly a defensive option, while Mimikyu is a set-up sweeper and emergency blanket check for offense. Nobody will ever be deciding between adding an Eiscue or Mimikyu to their team to cover the same role
I do not think that was ever the point in the comparision

Lol

Holy shit.
Zard and Moth got a big boost

After thinking about it, Eiscue seems like it's made for mind games. Its ability only works against psychical attacks, so pure physical attackers will probably switch out. You could use that turn to use Substitute instead of Hail, but if that becomes common then it becomes a coin flip. If you use Substitute and they attack, you've lost 25% of your HP. If you use Hail and they switch then you're vulnerable. If they try to remove Hail with a Dynamax weather changing attack, then you can use Hail to change it back before the turn ends, but what if they boost their stats with something like Max Airstrike while you use Hail? What if you think they'll boost their stats and use Substitute? It's like Aegislash all over again. (except probably not broken) You have to outplay the coin flip. :P

That said, Eisune feels like a gimmick. A fun gimmick that I might try out in the Battle Tower if it breaks the AI, but still a gimmick. Being able to take infinite physical attacks doesn't do much good if you have to face more special attacks, or if they just use Toxic.

Blunder Policy is a funny idea, but is only reliable if you spam something like Sheer Cold.

Heavy-Duty Boots? Hmm... *looks at Shedinja* Seems worse than a Focus Sash or Lum Berry for it, but still another way to fight KOs.

Frosmoth looks OU material now.
Even zard lol.

Yep, looks way better for them. I just mentioned Shedinja because it was my first thought. A Life Orb is too much recoil after Solar Power for Charizard, so I see him using the boots. Not sure about Frosmoth though, depends on if something like a Life Orb is needed or just better.

Pincurchin stats. This is assuming no EVs since it seems to be freshly caught. For lower IVs, that means higher base stats, and for higher IVs, that means it has lower base stats!

HP: 41-56
Atk: 83-98
Def: 94-109
SpA: 86-102
SpD: 74-90
Spe: 5-21

Wow this thing's stats suck lol

He confirms Cramorant can toss Pikachu with Gulp Missile and it causes paralysis.
How stupid does it look and will anyone be mad if this happens to them? I'm imagining Pikachu's tail and back leg sticking out, so please tell me that's what it looks like.

Oh crap, Heavy Duty Boots seem like they'll be an awesome option on setup sweepers and even some defensive mons that have access to reliable recovery. Not sure how useful it'll be on something like Charizard since it honestly want's the power from Life Orb to wallbreak, but it could work on some Sunny Day Solar Power sets.
