Magnezone’s ability to ease the matchup against Water-types alongside Ferrothorn is appreciated by Steel-type teams. It is also able to trap and remove opposing Steel-types such as Corviknight and Skarmory, which could prove very useful due to their access to Body Press. However, its somewhat shallow movepool means that it has limited options, and its meddling Speed tier means that Magnezone can easily be outsped by the likes of Excadrill and Dugtrio, the latter being able to just straight out OHKO it. Volt Switch allows for Magnezone to serve as a pivot to bring in teammates to handle its checks. Body Press is in the fourth slot so that Magnezone will be able to take on its checks such as Excadrill, Hydreigon, and Urshifu-S on the switch.

Teammates such as Corviknight and Skarmory are mandatory teammates, since they are able to patch Magnezone’s weakness to Ground-types, and they are also able to check and force out such Ground-types. The aforementioned Skarmory, along with Ferrothorn and Klefki, can stack hazards on the opponent’s side of the field for Magnezone to break through more easily. The aforementioned Klefki is also able to cripple targets for Magnezone to take advantage of thanks to Thunder Wave complemented with priority in the form of Prankster. Magnezone can also form VoltTurn cores with the aforementioned Corviknight, as well as with Jirachi in order to gain momentum for its team and safely switch out of its checks. Bisharp makes for a good teammate, since it appreciates Magnezone ability to break through physically defensive walls like Toxapex for it so sweep easily late game.
