Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Hi!, im posting about Sylveon Specs in this thread (was the rw in the past week), with the permission of Mac3, i'm sorry for the delay, i was kinda busy.
She has been doing pretty well, with good coverage for beat her counters and a really good stab such as Hyper Voice, however, her speed is kinda bad, but that can be patched up with...
Araquanid!, Sticky Webs is a really fun and this thing is, in my opinion, the best sticky web user due to its good bulk, this mon doesn't even need to run Focus Sash, because his bulk can even tank hits such as TBolt from Thundy Incarnate, which is pretty good in this meta.
The team: (click me)
Cobalion is a pretty good rocker with a lot of role compression, can act as a pivot and sort of a fairy killer and a dark resist (you can't rely on Sylveon Specs as the only dark resist), Darmanitan is just a powerful attacker that can take advantage of all of the Sylveon checks and viceversa (Sylveon abuses Diancie and Seismitoad) and can pivoting too, now i pick Toxtricity because he is another pivot and a really powerful mon that compliments Sylveon (see turn 11-17) and takes advantage of webs, Regidrago in the last slot because it's a powerful dragon mon that can also get rid of steels via fire fang burn and flinch.
Sylveon has that EV spread because with this, can take a Cobalion's Iron Head from full and KOing back with Hyper Voice, 232 speed is here because with this i can outspeed Mimikyu with -1 speed.
Conclusion: Sylveon is a great Specs user that can beat a lot of her checks, her speed isn't a huge deal because it's pretty bulky even without a lot of defense investiment, however, is still a great mon with or without sticky webs, if i can rate it, i would rate it in A.
Thanks for reading! #AraquanidToC+
Was really hard to pick the last move for Sylveon, first i thought that Moonblast was the best pick because i thought that Throat Chop was more common, then i realized that wasn't too common and i stick with Wish, but then i realized that Wish was pretty unnecesary and i put Quick Attack instead, but with Quick Attack was the same story than with Wish and Chandelure was kinda problematic, so i end sticking with Shadow Ball and has been doing pretty well.
Also, in as RURW10 Pokeon and taking Barbarable, Crobat and Necrozma
OK so when I started building, I didn't exactly intend to have a team with three Poison-types and two Dark-types, but I started with Obstagoon for its type synergy with Crobat and its physical wallbreaking power, Toxtricity came next as a special wallbreaker, and the rest of the team just went from there.
Crobat as a setup sweeper, though, went quite well. Once you get a boost or two, practically everything that doesn't resist Flying gets 2HKO'd trying to switch in. Even if you don't have any boosts, Crobat's blistering Speed means you can still act as a revenge killer. As an example, an unboosted Giga Drain cleanly OHKOs Cloyster after Stealth Rock. There were a lot of games, though, where Crobat didn't really do anything because the rest of the team did so well lmao
Apparently, the couple of replays I saved didn't actually save, so for now you'll just have to take my word for it that Crobat did really well in those couple of games, including one where I got very lucky with Speed ties.
edit: I know this is unrelated but Toxt and Goon look badass next to each other like that
NASTY PLOT CROBAT
Overview: The sheer surprise of special Crobat is enough to make your opponent shit there pants as they switch into there Steelixes and Metagrosses
and you nasty plot right on it and then heat wave them to death oh Seismatoad, Milotic, and Suicune are fine right GIGA DRAIN and Crobat dosent even need a Nasty Plot boost to destroy and halph the time I didn't even use them also this should serve as a put Diance in RU article because there crazy good here.
Team Time: https://pokepast.es/ea746601fe74c3a8 and https://pokepast.es/26af1f2c20362b2a I went with Air Slash because it was more accurate then huricane and with it being faster than all relevent mons non scarfed and some scarfers it could flinch a lot of mons. Diance is to good and can fake lead rocks with sub to screw Registeel or be lead rocks in set 2. I just like Rocks Metagross and Cb is funny. Zydog is Zydog I have sash because of poor bulk Thousand Arrows because you need it Waves cause you can para trap espeed for prioity and then coil cause why not honestly. Scarf Meinshou is the best Meinshou set and I wanted a Fighting type. Specs Raikou's sheer power is immense and just cool. Overall this team is so dumb and surprising it actually works so yeah pretty fun team. Also side note and flex I won a tourney with this and came in 2nd at 2 others and made like 3 people rage quit with Diance alone so yeah.
The Verdict *cough* PUT DIANCE IN RU *cough* anyways special Crobat is a suprise and only further adds to Crobats immense utility and special should be taken into account in building and play overall in the end 7/10 more than a gimmick so B/B- a . Diance is super scary 9/10 A+/A for sure.
Some of the replays are of tourneys on my main some not so yeah.
Overview In general bad mixed is not good the amount of Spatack evs need to actually work is high and takes away from attack I barely used it and the team was bad so could just be me but 4/10 rather be walled by Sisemetoad so idk here the team if you care https://pokepast.es/d40ca360032ea660 its pretty bad tho so wouldn't use it.
Congratulations to Mac3 for winning this week's Research Week! (I'll be including my post in this one, in order to avoid double posting)
Firstly, Grass Knot Barbaracle had mixed reactions. Drivetacos thought that it was bad, as it wasn't worth investing in special attack in order to hit Seismitoad. However, I personally thought it was really good, as long as you built your team to allow it to set up. I've used two teams in support to Barbaracle, one is screens, while the other was a more normal approach, with Memento Gardevoir being the way to get Barbaracle in on opposing 'mons (https://pokepast.es/3df86e4960b6bc75https://pokepast.es/ee6e5142764c5129). I used Lum Berry as I wanted to be able to set-up on Togekiss and Seismitoad under screens or -2, respective to the teams. Using lum, you lose out on a lot of power, but I thought it was worth it as set-up opportunities were more important to me.
DD Necrozma is an interesting sweeper in my opinion, bug psychic ground coverage is super dangerous, and under screens you can afford to use Weakness Policy instead of Colbur Berry. This can allow you to get to +3/+1 in one turn, which makes Necrozma an extremely dangerous sweeper, almost on par with Cloyster. However, it does also have some drawbacks, mainly that at +1 it's still quite weak, relying on the +2 bp boost from super-effective hits. I would conclude that DD Necrozma only really fits on screens, but under screens it's a frightening 'mon to encounter.
Crobat had a decent reception, both Drivetacos and FALCOWNPAUNCH! thought that the main draw of it was the surprise factor. The coverage of flying fire and grass coupled with NP went a long way for Drivetacos, while Falconpunch realized that there are a lot of games in which Crobat doesn't do much, at least the set that he decided to go with.
Indeedee was banned in generation 8 RU after the release of Expanding Force, an extremely powerful STAB move under psychic terrain. However, after the release of DLC2, the power creep that the tiers have experienced has made it so Indeedee has instead settled in NUBL. With many teams relying on Zarude and Steelix as their psychic resist, you guys will get to test out if Indeedee's powerful coverage is enough to break through common teams.
Tornadus is an interesting 'mon, although having the same stats as Thundurus, it is outshined by the other genie in this tier. Tornadus has access to flying stab and tailwind, unlike Thundurus however, and has much of the same coverage options. So I'm wondering if these traits are able to offset the detriment of RU being infested with electric-types, and allow Tornadus to have a sizeable niche in the current metagame.
Lastly, Sharpedo. Sharpedo has been a common sight on the RUBL list throughout the generations, occupying a place on that list during generations 6, 7, and most of generation 8. However, much like Indeedee, with the release of DLC2, the power creep has led to Sharpedo being instead placed in NUBL. Is it still good on spikes HO, where it has thrived in previous generations, or has the power creep finally caught up with it.

make a ‘rurw11 x’ alt and sign up by posting the name. test the mons you decide to investigate and when the week is up write a few paragraphs on how you found the mon, strengths, weaknesses, teams etc. good luck!
While the things that make Indeedee particularly good are still very much in effect--Psychic Surge and Expanding Force--the increased amount of Steel- and Dark-types in the tier make just spamming the move much harder. Indeedee's two Choice sets still have their strong points, as evidenced by me running the Scarf set, but even with Trick, locking yourself into any one move can be exploited by common defensive cores in the metagame. Indeedee's frailty is also an issue, and the Scarf set tends to miss out on important KOs. The Specs set, and perhaps other non-Choice sets, may have promise, but I haven't ended up with a lot of time to test. I also don't have many games where Indeedee put in a lot of work, because truthfully Specs Salazzle stole the spotlight when I was testing; it's honestly such a great set in the current meta.
I do believe, however, that Indeedee still remains a potent revenge killer/wallbreaker, even with Zarude running around, on the strength of Psychic Surge and Expanding Force being an insane combo.
The team idea here was based on an old idea from the short time that Tornadus was in NU: HDB + Defog Tornadus alongside HDB + Nasty Plot Zoroark. Granted, this team really isn't quite up to the quality of my best work, but I think it's alright for something I just kind of threw together. Having a priority Defog makes Torn a pretty good hazard remover, alongside U-turn and a good bit of offensive presence for a Defogger. Its Flying STAB moves are a bit suspect, though, with Air Slash being a bit weak, Hurricane being inaccurate, and Acrobatics requiring an itemless set. Minus Electric STAB, it keeps a lot of Thundurus' good qualities, including variations on both of Thundy's main sets. It's also worth noting that Thundurus is currently being suspect tested, so I imagine that Tornadus could pick up that particular slack if Thundurus ends up getting banned.
I was using an itemless bulk up + taunt + acro + knock set. Max speed, max attack, jolly. Below is my experience using tornadus.
Pros:
- Fast knock off is a great way to throw your opponent off
- Priority taunt lets you steal your opponent's momentum
- Acro is surprisingly strong, does decent damage to non-resists
- Bulk up can earn you sweeps sometimes, usually it at least gives you a nice hit on something
- Great anti-lead
Cons:
- No item means you're weak to hazards
- Meager defenses mean you're not switching in to much
- Slower than prime threats like raikou
Overall assessment:
- I like tornadus a lot. It's a great support mon that can occasionally sweep.
Thanks for reading! All criticisms and feedback welcome.
I made a hyper offense team bc its the only style Sharpedo works on and Indeedee fits on just fine.
Team Time: https://pokepast.es/6490c238664b04b4 This kinda bad but it works so dont expect crazy results I also dont super like Ho in general so could be that but in terms of the mons.
Sharpedo is Sharpedo a staple of Ho could also from a nice combo of proc and then Flip Turn with Thundys Volt Switch and U-turn overall still good I went with stabs proc and P jab to hit Toge really.
Indeedee M is a great mon Scarf Specs Cm Lo Cm+Lo all good sets I ran Cm Lo bc it grants immediate power and can also prep for a sweep.
The Verdict Sharpedo is still good and does his thing well Indeedee is a wild card that with reads is so scary like if u can d gleam a zarude on the switch its insanely good. Overall 7/10 more than a gimmick
Sorry for the long wait! Congrats to Sparrow's Tail for winning this monthweek!
Indeedee was generally good in the researcher's experience. FALCOWNPAUNCH! and Drivetacos both realizing that if your able to catch the dark/steel with coverage, Expanding Force still hits like a truck. Falcon used scarf to be able to revenge kill threats like Thundurus, Crobat, and Noivern, while Tacos used CM LO in order to both be able to break and switch moves while doing so. Falcon also noted that Indeedee is very frail, and requires a lot of prediction to make work, as otherwise defensive cores can be difficult to break through.
Next up was Tornadus, which was tested by both FALCOWNPAUNCH! and Sparrow's Tail. Tornadus was seen as a generally good offensive flying, with it being able to threaten common resists like Raikou and Xurkitree with powerful coverage or pivot on them with a strong U-turn. Being able to have Prankster utility moves like Defog and Taunt was also a benefit in both Falcon's and Sparrow's experience with Tornadus. Falcon finished his reflection saying that Tornadus "could pick up that particular slack if Thundurus ends up getting banned."
Lastly, Sharpedo was researched by Drivetacos and he used a HO team in order to bring out Sharpedo's potential. He said that Sharpedo generally does what it's always done, and it is still very good at sweeping weakened teams. There's also been a lot of talk about Sharpedo in RU discord, showing that this is a mon that is definitely worth preparing for when building.
Aerodactyl is very unexplored this meta. It's able to be an offensive check to flyings and fires, such as Togekiss, Crobat, and Chandelure, while also hitting the tier for neutral damage with its STABs. In generation 8, Aerodactyl got access to both boots and a good physical flying STAB, in Dual Wingbeat, which could be all it needs to thrive in the RU tier.
Screens have always been a scary thing to prep for when building, and I've noticed that a lot of my teams have been pretty lackluster against it lately. So I think that doing a research week on them could be a good idea to explore the playstyle. For this you can use any screens or veil setter you want to, I have a team with screens Virizion for example.
Starmie is a viable spinner in the current meta, and its HDB set is good, however, I want to see how an LO offensive version of Starmie does. Having access to all the coverage it could need in STABs, Ice Beam, Grass Knot and Thunderbolt, having access to recovery to offset LO damage, and also being able to potentially boost its speed late game with Rapid Spin. These qualities all put it in a prime position to match up well against the multitude of teams that rely on Seismitoad, Gastro, and Zarude as water resists.
