Monster Hunter Rise Discussion/Teaming Thread.

Hey all, I literally just got Monster Hunter Rise and it's my first game in the Monster Hunter series. I thought I would make a thread so people can talk about the game (put spoilers in spoiler tags, idk how much spoilers matter in this game). You can also use this thread to find other people who have this game and play it, so you could communicate with each other and maybe team up and hunt some.

So one thing I've been wondering about is weapon choice. I don't think I've made it far enough yet where I can choose my weapon type, but I've watched some videos and seen the other weapon types. I'm not really feeling the Longsword that they give you by default. Are there any other weapon types that attack faster than the longsword and are beginner-friendly?

I got MHR a few days ago and have been loving it. Currently speeding through the Village Quests using Hunting Horn, which feels...weirdly powerful. I'm not sure if I like the changes from World or not: it's much simpler, but I don't feel like I'm managing anything which was a big part of why I liked it before. On the flip side, I feel like I still get all the reward. It's weird.

In terms of weapons for you, try Dual Blades, it's one of the fastest weapons around.

Just an update, went back to longsword because I like having that second meter to take care of instead of SnS's simple button-mashing (at least that's how it was for me).

I'd really love to hunt with some of yall, especially because of how hard it is to find lobbies that actually play the game in low rank. PM me if you're interested, i guess, I don't play much so we'll have to work it out real hard.

Question: once you get to high rank, does lobbying and playing with others online become easier or harder?

Also, are there really enough monsters to fill hundreds of hours of gameplay? Or are high-rank quests just the same monsters but more in a shorter amount of time/with more restrictions?

The game was released unfinished which really sucks but I've still had a lot of fun beating it. The monsters are there to kill and get gear from. Currently, you could kill all monsters and obtain all gear sets in and fill hundred of hours but I don't really see a point in that. Regarding match-making, it's basically the same once you go high rank. Lobbies will be easy to find given you have the right parameters set.

My personal build in MHR is all Magnamalo high-rank armor with the Magnamalo dual blades leveled fully. I haven't finished my decorations yet but I'm going for an Attack and a Part-Breaker build which I'll probably never get around to finishing. I'm very excited for the free expansions that are going to come out and I hope they fill the game with loads of monsters just as MH: Generations had.

My god a MH thread, new favorite

High rank monsters are actually harder, they are faster, do more damage and give you way less openings. Despite not being G-rank (that will come next year probably), they are a fair challenge for a beginner.

Also, SnS isn't button mashing at all, it has a lot of gimmicks and timed combos, to deal the best amount of damage out of SnS you gotta train a bit, maybe for a beginner in this generation the best weapons are Dual Blades, Hunting Horn and lance (but lance sucks in terms of damage).

also, for the bow, how effective are the elemental coatings? Like, how many spread shots do i need to hit before the monster actually gets paralyzed or asleep or something? I only have like 25 of each of the coatings (total, not in each fight) so I want to make sure I'm not wasting them.

Also, hit this thread up with dlc speculations

If the monster isn't imune to the status of the coating, with all the hits, you have almost a status.
If you struggle with LS flinches use an armor piece or a charm with the "Flinch Free" skill, you only need level 1. If you're in High Rank you can use a decoration.
