Hello, I am quite inexperienced with gen 8 mechanics so help is very much appreciated. This team is based on pivoting to other mons who can take hits and dish out damage. It took me quite a while to come up with and fix this team, so again, help is appreciated.
(PS: I just got smogon sets, changed it up a bit, and threw this team together)
Slowking @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Scald
- Future Sight
- Slack Off
- Teleport
I close slowking for its bulk and survivability with regenerator. HP evs are mandatory and SpD over SpA is because this is a team based on switching. Because of that, I chose this set with heavy duty boots instead of assault vest, although assault vest slowking could be possible with this team. Teleport is the main reason I don't use assault vest. Future sight is chosen over Psychic because... well it's a slowking. Overall, this mon could be seen as a special wall.
Tangrowth @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Focus Blast
- Sleep Powder
Tangrowth here is my physical wall, used mostly to switch into ground, water, and electric type moves as is the duty of a grass type pokemon. Knock off is chosen to get rid of leftovers. Giga drain is stab and focus blast is used if you know that an ice type mon will switch in. Rocky helm is common on tangrowth as means to wall mons like urshifu-r and zeraora, who walls zapdos.
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 136 SpD / 120 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Toxic
Common heatran set, magma storm for stab and trapping, earth power is for rock and fire types that can't deal serious damage to heatran. Main purpose is to trap and toxic. Leftovers and HP evs for survivability. Flash fire is the obvious choice over flame body becuase no sane pokemon player uses flame body. Heatran counters mons like blissey and clefable that don't run teleport or magic guard. Also counters weavile, as this team is incredibly weak to it.
Zapdos @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 220 Def / 40 Spe
Timid Nature
- Discharge
- Hurricane
- Roost
- Defog
Defogger and switch in to ground type moves, though tangrowth can soak up physical ground type moves. Corviknight could be used but zapdos is an electric type with strong stab moves, and corviknight gets easily countered by magnezone because it is outsped and needs to use u turn to escape. Heavy duty boots is anti rocks. Def evs work well with its static ability, which has a 30% chance to paralyze the opponent when hit by a physical move.
Kyurem @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 56 HP / 200 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Roost
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
Kyurem is my lead most of the time, unless the opponent has urshifu-r, which is a common lead. Substitute if your opponent led with mons that are weak to ice like lando, and you predict the switch. Freeze dry is chosen over ice beam as water types can wall kyurem. Heavy duty boots, like zapdos, are anti stealth rock. Earth power if your opponent switches into a mon that is weak to ground, like tapu koko or heatran, and you have substitute active.
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy
- Wish
- Protect
The only thing that holds this team together. Counters fighting and dark, which are possible threats to this team. Unaware, because clefable has aromatherapy. I chose wish and protect over soft boiled because heatran and tangrowth don't have regenerative moves. Protect is here because most of the time, when wish is used, clefable cannot take another hit. Leftovers for survivability as this mon is also my setup counter.
