Welcome to the official National Dex Sets Viability Rankings. In this thread, we as a community will rank every Pokemon's usable set into which tier of the viability ranking they individually fall under. In this thread, you're encouraged to post your thoughts and opinions on the various set rankings for each Pokemon. Posts in this thread will be taken into account when deciding rank changes. Keep in mind that the sets are organized in order of viability! Please do note that no set can be ranked any higher than the Pokemon's current position on the Viability Rankings.

Terminology
  • Offensive usually incorporates Pokemon that are Offensively-oriented; however, may have some utility with them (i.e. Taunt, Intimidate) or setup moves.
  • Utility varies from Pokemon to Pokemon, but basically these Pokemon are not often Offensive based and, even if they are, usually support the team more often than sweep. Such examples are laying entry hazards, setting up terrain, or using U-turn / Volt Switch. This can sometimes be known as Pivot as well.
  • Defensive are basically Pokemon that are more Defensively-oriented.

Happy posting! Ensure that your posts belong here, please - the Viability Ranking thread is the place to argue a Pokemon's overall placement, but you can use this thread to make your point and explain why you think something should be higher or lower. These discussions will be used for both this thread and the Viability Rankings thread!

I do like the vr rankings, I think they're pretty well done. The only things that I would slightly, slightly, disagree on are small things such as choice band rillaboom's lower tiering than SD. I mean, I just find that SD rillaboom is just mainly run on HO and even then, from what I see, it's not used on there too much these days. Another thing would be Toxapex, now forgive me if I'm wrong, but the new spread appearing is 144 Def, with the rest in SpD. But some people differ between calm and bold. I find that SpD pex is much more viable than Def pex, and this may just be my opinion, as all things are, but SpD pex doesn't even make an appearance on the rankings. Now I won't argue that SpD is better than Def for now, but I still think it has a lot of usage to be considered A to B+. The other minor thing would be the A- vr. Of course, at the end of the day people can run whatever they think is viable, but I just think that these are missing a few tweaks and opinions. But again, this is my opinion feel free to disagree with me or agree me.

Love the addition of the accurate set viability rankings and great work on the vr ^_^

Without any further ado, here are the rankings!

S Rank

:landorus-therian: Landorus-T

  • Choice Scarf - S
  • Defensive - A+ move down to a-
  • Offensive Z-Move - A+ maybe seperate this into three? flyinium smack/gravity is much more common than rockium, and groudium is abt in the middle really
  • Super Defensive - A This set should be swapped with plain defensive, you fail to check a lot of the things you would normally do with the other set compared to this, and every team has a tran check asw as other forms of offensive pressure for it anyways, having a defensive pivot into maw, rilla, kart, medi, lop is extremely valuable, much more valuable than the speed tier.
  • Substitute Swords Dance - A-
A+ Rank

:clefable: Clefable

  • Calm Mind - A+
  • Stealth Rock - A amazing rocker, shld be a+ asw tbh
  • Unaware - B
:corviknight: Corviknight

  • Defog - A+
  • Set-Up - A- setup shld be lower really, idt it fits out of very specific setup spams / stalll but i can get if you keep it here
:garchomp: Garchomp

  • Offensive Stealth Rock - A+
  • Bulky Stealth Rock - A-
:gliscor: Gliscor

  • Swords Dance - A+
  • Defog - B
  • Stealth Rock - B-

  • Offensive Z-Move - A+
  • Defensive Trapper - A+
:kartana: Kartana

  • Normalium-Z - A+
  • Choice Band - A i wld say this set is a+ as well, the immediate breaking power is really amazing against teams that utilise stuff like lati / lando as their pivot into kart
  • Fightinium-Z - A
  • Bulky Defog - A-
  • Choice Scarf - B- this is a c tier set, dr see it doing much else outside of being a worse rilla
  • Life Orb - B-
:mawile-mega: Mawile-Mega

  • 4 Attack - A+
  • Swords Dance A+
:toxapex: Toxapex

  • Defensive - A+
A Tier

:ferrothorn: Ferrothorn

  • Defensive - A+

:lopunny-mega: Lopunny-Mega

  • Offensive Pivot - A
  • Power-Up-Punch - A-
:magnezone: Magnezone

  • Choice Specs - A
  • Z-Move - B+

:rillaboom: Rillaboom

  • Swords Dance - A
  • Choice Band - A-
:scizor-mega: Scizor-Mega

  • Defensive Pivot - A
  • Offensive - B maybe specify 3a here?
:tapu-fini: Tapu Fini

  • Calm Mind - A
  • Defog - A- fog shld be A tier, top 3 foggers in the tier + one of the only few that keeps rocks off vs tran, v big deal
  • Trapper - A-
  • Choice Scarf - B
:tapu-koko: Tapu Koko

  • Choice Specs - A
  • Heavy Duty Boots Pivot - A-
  • Calm Mind - A-
  • shuca deserves a mention, less longetivity than boots but you can infinitely volt asw and lure grounds
:tapu-lele: Tapu Lele

  • Choice Specs - A
  • Choice Scarf - A-
  • Calm Mind - A-
:tyranitar: Tyranitar

  • Choice Band - A
:tyranitar-mega: Tyranitar

  • Stealth Rocks - A
  • Dragon Dance - B+ dd shld be lower tbh, much harder to pull off nowadays and faces competition from a lot, mainly mchomp and mgyara
:weavile: Weavile

  • Swords Dance - A
  • Choice Band - A
A- Rank

:diancie-mega: Diancie-Mega

  • 3 Attack - A-
  • Lead - B
:excadrill: Excadrill

  • Offensive - A-
  • Specially Defensive - B+ this set is rlly rlly niche, fs shld be swapped over with lead, esp considering teams that use non boots volc, gyara, mgyara basically warrant lead drill > lando
  • Lead - B
:hydreigon: Hydreigon

  • Nasty Plot - A-
  • Defog - B dawg we r not in spec meta, this shld be c tbh
:medicham-mega: Medicham-Mega

  • 4 Attack - A-
:serperior: Serperior

:slowbro: Slowbro

  • Future Sight Pivot - A-
:slowking: Slowking

  • Future Sight Pivot - A-
:tangrowth: Tangrowth

  • Physically Defensive - A-

:jirachi: Jirachi

  • Choice Scarf - B+
:kommo-o: Kommo-O

  • Kommonium-Z - B+
  • Belly Drum - B+
  • Specially Defensive Stealth Rock - B+
  • Dragon Dance - B move this to b-, faces a shit ton of competition and is rarely worth it
:manaphy: Manaphy

  • Rain Attacker - B+
  • 3 Attack - B+
:melmetal: Melmetal

  • 3 Attack - B+
  • Choice Band - B-
:pelipper: Pelipper

:skarmory: Skarmory

  • Defensive Spikes - B+
:swampert-mega: Swampert-Mega

  • Rain Attacker - B+
  • Specially Defensive - B- as much as i like this set, it is definitely not this viable mainly due to the fact it takes a whole mega slot + no recovery, this shld be c+ -> c
:victini: Victini

  • Heavy Duty Boots - B+
  • Choice Band - B this and scarf shouldnt be in the same tier, the only place u will rlly see this is on sun, and if its not it is easily manageble and all it provides is a wallbreaker that dies in 3 turns, at least scarf offers gambit utility - band to b-, scarf stay here
  • Choice Scarf - B
:volcarona: Volcarona

  • Offensive Set-Up - B+
  • Bulky Set-Up - B
:zapdos: Zapdos

  • 3 Attack - B+
