Pokemon Legends - Arceus - 28th Jan 2022 *Official Content Only*

These dudes did some audio isolation work on the trailer and found something that sounds a lot like Zoroark's cry. GG I guess.
After hearing that and listening to Zoroark's cry...yep it's a Hisuian Zoroark, no doubt. I 100% believe it's a Hisuian Zoroark or alternate Zorua evolution until Gamefreak shows me it's a Hisuian Barbaracle or something

I just hope they don't wait too long to reveal it

One thing that ""bothers"" me at the idea of "Hisuian Zoroark" is how they would handle it mechanically.

So far when they've done regional forms, they've usually given them a distinct gimmick or special move (as with most new families in last generations), in some cases intentionally opposite to their base form, see Alolan Ninetales getting Snow Warning to mimic regular Ninetales Drought.

Zoroark however has Illusion as signature ability, so I am curious to see what this ipotetical "Hisuian Zoroark" will have. I don't think it'll be just "still Zoroark but ice type", probably will have some variant of Illusion that does something else.
(Also, still assuming it's Zoroark/Zorua, from the trailer it would appear they were not mimicking another pokemon at all, so their gimmick might go on something different than mimicking)

Altho Illusion in the games work as some kind of Transform (in the sense that Zoroark makes itself look like another Pokémon), in theory Illusion is not changing Zoroark's appearance, but altering the perception of the challenger. It's said in the games (and demostrated in the movie) that Zoroark can extend the limits of these illusions to even hundreds of people simutaneously, and not only the illusions that involve itself, but other objets.

So perhaps this is a variant of Illusion that somehow deceive the opposing trainer i a different way that isn't adopting the form of other Pokémon. Idk, imagine if you couldn't see how much HP it has left, or if the game doesn't tell you which attack its using each turn.

Illusion as it currently works is unsuitable for Legends. You can't put regular zoroark in a Totem slot, because regular Illusion does nothing without another mon in the back.

Then again, have we even confirmed whether abilities exist? They could just be giving it illusion because it doesn't matter for this game

So far we've had no indication that there are abilities in the game. Website doesn't mention any and we've not seen any on the in-game stat pages. Maybe they're gone, maybe they're replaced with something to be revealed? If there are no abilities and this is Zoro, maybe it just has a new signature move to fit its theme.

In other drip feeds of news, supposedly the researchers at canalave library are working on restoring the video :P

If the video is being "restored" now, then hopefully it won't take to long for the new Pokémon to be announced.

The game's change in structure makes it inevitable that Illusion would have to work differently, so giving Zoroark a shiny new form would be a good way to highlight that. Perhaps Hisuian Zoroark's "boss battle" could have you try to navigate Zoroark's environmental illusions and avoid illusory Pokémon before you're capable of fighting it.

Even if Legends doesn't have abilities, the new Pokémon will likely have abilities programmed in so they're compatible with future games, like Meltan and Melmetal did in Let's Go.

Normal/Ghost has to be one of the funniest type combinations, being immune to both of your own type + Fighting and all. Lore-wise, it fits perfectly. Not sure whether it's the best Pokemon to have received it from a competitive perspective though, I'm assuming it'll be quite frail and the general lack of resistances (1/2 to Bug/Poison is kinda eh) outside of that may be troublesome. Still though, very happy to finally see this type finally get put into practice.

All in all it depends on the stats... if it mimicks Zoroark's regular stats, its defensive profile wont matter (though having 3 immunities will indeed give it plenty of switch ins), normal/ghost are solid stabs to have but it would require actually having the atk/spatk and BP to use them

If it keeps Illusion, however, being immune to 3 types means it has a lot more disguises ro choose from to mess up your opponents day, and with its coverage options it can least land a decent chunk on whatever comes in after.

Normal/Ghost has been my most wanted new type combo for years now. Glad we're finally getting one, even if it is a regional form of one of my least favorite pokemon.
