The team: Gen8
Dragapult @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 6 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- U-turn
- Shadow Ball
- Draco Meteor
- Hex
I started out this team wanting to play with a dragmag-type team, so of course I had to include Dragapult. I liked specs a lot more due to just the raw power it came with. I chose to go with Hex rather than a coverage move because it complimented the mons I had in mind and was more useful imo for revenge killing. The rest of the set feels self explanatory and kind of needed.
Magnezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Body Press
- Iron Defense
- Toxic
Cant have dragmag without the mag! With already having Specs pult I didnt want to run specs mag as well, and this set seemed very fun. For a while I had teleport over toxic but I didnt find myself using it that much, and toxic meant I could more easily revenge kill with Hex. I thought about using substitute for ferro’s leech seed but im indifferent.
Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 92 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
Landorus-T feels like the glue for almost any team, especially with magnezone. When the team as it is now was finished, I almost switched it for a sd set but the lack of rocker and longevity was too much for me. Lando acts as the main physical wall for my team.
Melmetal @ Assault Vest
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 128 HP / 116 Atk / 252 SpD / 12 Spe
Careful Nature
- Double Iron Bash
- Thunder Punch
- Ice Punch
- Earthquake
I thought it was kind of ludicrous to have both Mag and Melmetal on my team, but it has worked pretty well so far. Protective pads thunderwave seemed to make sense with Hexpult, but I didnt have anything that could really stomach special moves, and AV was my fix to the problem. Maybe I could switch EQ for Superpower, but for now it was kind of a filler. I feel like there could be something better than having both Ice punch and thunder punch, but they do their job.
Rotom-Heat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Overheat
- Defog
- Will-O-Wisp
The lack of hazard control on my team was really rough. I thought for a while about who would be a good choice and I came upon Rotom-H. I needed something else that could take a fire attack because Dragapult is very frail. I also wanted something else that was either immune to or resisted ground moves. Will-o-wisp is nice to burn things like Garchomp, Lando, and Urshifu that it can lure in.
Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Choice Band
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Surging Strikes
- Aqua Jet
- Close Combat
- U-turn
I felt like I needed a physical wall breaker and another win condition on the team, so I settled on Urshifu. CC is helpful for the likes of Blissey and some other things I struggle to break through. It also helps beat Volcarona which is pretty scary against my team so far.
Notes on my team: The lack of a scarfer or Set up sweeper kind of gets to me, just cuz im used to having it on my team. The biggest threat to the team imo is Volcarona, who can take out pretty much everybody on the team, and its very hard to stop it from setting up a quiver dance. Ive found myself struggling with Opposing Dragpult and Urshifu. Ive also struggled with Kartana a bit. I feel like a have a lot of pivot mons, but Im not sure if thats a bad or good thing. I feel like it might be a good team, but I dont even know what my own game plan would be while playing it, Not sure what cores and archetypes I will struggle with more than others, Etc, Etc.
Some variations of the team ive tried: Ive kept Dragapult, Melmetal, Mag, and Lando for all the teams but the last 2 ive changed out a few times
In one team I used Tapu Fini with a knock off/defog set and a defensive ddance Dragonite over rotom and Urshifu. I also had a team with Scarf Latios and Wish pass Clefable. The original version of the team had a Heavy duty boots Victini and a defensive ddance dragonite.
Thanks for the help!!!
