Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Starting off with grimmsnarl , his prankster ability always allows him to set up 2 screens and sometimes get away with , some people completely ignore him and start setting up (swords dance , etc) and thats when grimmsnarl tanks 1 hit with the help of screens and uses foul play to get a OKO mostly, taunt is for opposing grimmsnarls the 12 ev investment in speed will allow me to outspeed any opposing grimmsnarl and stop him from setting up his screens , wasting 1 turn for the opponent ultimately.
Dragapult @ Life Orb
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Darts
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hex
- Dragon Dance
Dragon dance is there just so that if i get a opportunity i can pop in some dragon dance and get the screens to help me tank a hit , will o wisp because it works well with my hex and if the opponent is switching i can just get a burn in there , dragon darts cuz y not
Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 44 HP / 180 Atk / 4 Def / 28 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Tomb
- Swords Dance
Excadrill helps me hit hard against ground types and when there are screens up i can just pop a swords dance and go on a rampage , iron head helps cover against fairy types also its steel typing helps me switch into toxic moves and take no damage ,mold breaker because i dont have any sandstream setter for his other abilities , rock tomb helps when ik the opponent is switching so i can get the guaranteed speed lowering stat.
Snorlax @ Figy Berry
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 236 HP / 12 Atk / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Serious Nature
- Fire Punch
- Body Slam
- Iron Head
- Curse
Snorlax's thick fat helps me switch into fire and ice type moves with ease and get a curse set up , also i sometimes go in the order Grimmsnarl--> snorlax which just lets snorlax tank any hit while he curse sets up , body slam because its his STAB and it has a chance of paralyzing , fire punch for coverage against grass types because i dont really have any other fire type moves in my team cuz icicle on cloyster usually takes care of grass types
Rotom wash helps me get that will o wisp burn due to its tanky nature , defog to get rid of any hazards hydro pump helps stab against opposing fire types and the volt switch against water types , he also serves as a great pivot to my other pokes
Cloyster @ Focus Sash
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rock Blast
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Ice Shard
Cloyster because he always manages to get one shell smash in because of focus sash and cloyster when paired with screens sometimes just sweeps a team , Ice shard helps outspeed opposing pokes as a priority move but i am considering switching it with some other move because i always manage to outspeed after 1 shell smash , rock blast takes care of flying types and opposing rotom washes icicle spear just sweeps grass types and other pokes .
NOTE :- I am considering switching snorlax idrk what to do, pls feel free to suggest any changes thank you!
So after looking at your team I think that I spotted some weaknesses.
First of all, those 4 Atk EVs on Grimmsnarl do nothing because your only attacking move is foul play which uses the target's attacking stat for damage calculation.
However, I think that Foul Play is not the correct choice here anyways. There is no need in letting the opposing pokemon set up when you have taunt at your disposal. Just taunt the opponent, set up dual screens and then sack or switch out Grimmsnarl into one of your attacking pokemon that can use the opponents mon as setup fodder.
I suggest you use the Set proposed by Showdown (in the Import/Export tab):
As mentioned before, Foul Play is not the best choice and hence replaced with Spirit Break which pressures dark types heavily (especially annoying ones like Mandibuzz that Defog away your screens) because they are the ones that cannot be taunted and might try to abuse it as setup fodder (substitutes can be a real pain here). To maximize that pressure, you have max attack and just enough speed to outspeed min speed mandibuzz while the rest goes into HP for increased bulk. The rest is pretty basic: Set up the screen that mitigates the opponents damage first, then the other. If he sends out something like lead Mew, use taunt to deny them their support capabilities.
Also note that, while I obviously do not disagree with using taunt you cannot taunt opposing grimmsnarls or dark type pokemon in general because they are immune to prankster-boosted moves.
The next questionable choice is your Dragapult move set since it seems like you randomly put moves together. Even worse, these moves use different stats so Pult's Jolly nature becomes a detriment to your special moves. Hex Dragapult usually relies on toxic spikes support and other status setters. While you have rotom for that, I don't think that this fits the style of dual screens. You have already sacrificed an entire team slot to set up these screens so you cannot really afford to waste turns for status setting.
I suggest you use either specs or dragon dance dragapult to put maximum pressure on your opponent.
Next are both excadrill and rotom. First, rotom becomes obsolete if dragapult is not relying on hex anymore. Both Hazard Setting and Hazard Control aren't an easy fit for dual screens because both use up valuable turns that you could use to bring out one of your attackers.
Your excadrill is actually one of the better hazard controllers for dual screens because it has access to rapid spin which grants it a +1 speed boost (on top of removing all hazards from your side).
I suggest you use the following set for Excadrill:
Excadrill @ Life Orb/Balloon
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head/Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
- Swords Dance
This set is in most cases better than your old one because you get a speed boost on your Excadrill itself instead of lowering your opponents speed which he can nullify by switching out. Also, Rock Tomb is a weak move and you want as much power as possible so Rock Slide would be the move of choice. Generally, Iron Head is a good choice on Drill because of the STAB-Bonus but Rock Slide deals with Zapdos which would wall Excadrill otherwise.
Mold Breaker is a neat ability since it allows Excadrill to beat Unaware Quagsire and Pyukumuku.
If you actually want to use Hazards though, maybe a Suicide Landorus set might do you some favours:
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Normal Gem/Focus Sash
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance
- Explosion
- Earthquake
Swords Dance is there to maximize potential damage from Earthquake and Explosion. Explosion is there to cause as much damage as possible and to get one of your other offensive sweepers in as fast as possible after rocks have been set. Also, it blocks Defogging. Normal Gem is there to power your Explosion up even more. You might want Focus Sash instead should you intend to use Landorus as the lead of your team.
Rotom has no real business on a dual screens team (unless you want to use Nasty Plot, then maybe). Replace it with a Sweeper or with Bisharp (or Zapdos-Galar) whose Ability Defiant discourage defogging which is important because you want to keep your screens up or make your opponent pay a hefty price for removing them.
Personally, I would prefer Bisharp because it has priority with sucker punch and is immune to prankster moves.
Possible options for sweepers would Pokemon like Mold Breaker Haxorus, Scolipede, Blaziken, Volcarona, Double Dance Landorus or even Dragon Dance Tyranitar and many more. The choice is yours.
With Snorlax, i don't really know what to think about that. I mean, yes, it can be a good pokemon, on the other hand it really isn't too great because it takes a few turns (which all get deducted from your screen time, pun intended) to set it up and then it doesn't necessarily do too much because its only STAB move is Body Slam which hits nothing for super effective damage. It is also easily shut down by Taunt and, if you were to use the CurseLax Set with Rest, it can be abused as setup fodder itself. It also gets walled by either Toxapex or Corviknight depending on whether you use Earthquake or Heat Crash/Fire Punch as your Coverage moves. Lastly, certain moves like Darkest Lariat, Sacred Sword and Surging Strikes and critical hits in general ignore your stat changes making it prone to these moves and crit fishing in general.
Snorlax @ Leftovers
Level: 100
Careful Nature
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 12 HP / 244 Def / 252 SpD
- Curse
- Body Slam
- Earthquake/Heat Crash/Fire Punch
- Rest
While I don't think Snorlax is terrible, I also don't think it needs to be on a dual screens team. If you want to really have a slow and super sturdy sweeper, I would recommend Calm Mind Hatterene. It has insane Bulk and proves very detremental to fat and/or stall teams since it cannot be status'd or taunted and gets pretty good recovery with Draining Kiss.
Alternatively, you could consider adding a wallbreaker like Specs Tapu Lele or banded Melmetal but again, these use extra turns because they usually have to be switched out after making their move due to the nature of choice items.
Another sweeper is an excellent choice here too.
Last but not least, I would suggest some changes to Cloyster. Its Shell Smash set is always a big threat especially behind screens but what I don't see a need for is Focus Sash. You are behind screens after all so you probably won't get OHKO'd anyways. I would consider using White Herb/Life Orb or even Heavy-Duty Boots instead.
Ok, that post got longer than expected... I hope it helps.
Cheers!
