Flying
========

Mantine is a solid Defogger for Flying teams due to its immunity to Water-type moves and access to Haze and Roost. Furthermore, Mantine's high Special Defence allows it to pivot into threats like Blacephalon, Choice Scarf Tapu Fini, and Tapu Lele. Mantine notably is the only Water absorber on Flying, checking offensive Water-types like Urshifu-R and Barraskewda. However, Mantine is extremely passive and is threatened by offensive Pokemon such as Bisharp, Zapdos, and Kyurem. Mantine also faces competition with other Defoggers like Tornadus-T and Corviknight because of its lack of momentum.

[SET COMMENTS]
Haze checks setup sweepers such as Volcarona, Corviknight, and Azumarill. Scald threatens physical attackers with its burn chance. 96 Speed EVs allow Mantine to outspeed Adamant Azumarill.

Landorus-T greatly appreciates Mantine's ability to switch into Water-types such as Urshifu-R. In return, Landorus-T covers for Mantine's Electric weakness by checking Tapu Koko and Zeraora and other threats such as Victini and Jirachi. Celesteela appreciates Mantine's ability to switch into Fire-types such as Blacephalon and Volcarona, and Celesteela repays this by covering for Mantine's weakness to Rock and checking Tyranitar, Alolan Ninetales, and Kyurem. Mantine, Landorus-T, and Celesteela form the defensive backbone of some Flying teams, which allows other teammates to run more offensive sets to pressure the opposing team better. Thundurus-T and Choice Specs Zapdos appreciates Mantine's Defog and removes hindrances such as Volcanion and Toxapex that can cripple Mantine, and the former takes on Electric-type attacks. Galarian Moltres aids in the Steel, Psychic, Poison, and Ghost matchup and can set up on passive defensive Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Slowbro, which Mantine struggles with. Galarian Zapdos can remove threats like Kyurem, Bisharp, and Galarian Darmanitan and walls such as Porygon2 and Blissey.

**Toxic**: Toxic hinders Mantine's ability to clear entry hazards and reliably check setup sweepers and Water-types.

**Heatran**: Mantine has to be wary of swapping into Heatran, as it can inflict Toxic on Mantine, trap it with Magma Storm, and inflict with with Taunt to weaken Mantine or forcibly remove it from the match.

**Taunt**: Taunt users such as Mew, Tapu Fini, and Galarian Moltres can prevent Mantine from doing its role and can take advantage of it by using it as setup bait.

**Setup Sweepers**: Although Mantine can deal with most setup sweepers, it notably cannot handle certain physical setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Bisharp and Dragon Dance Dragapult. Physical setup sweepers do not appreciate Scald's burn chance, but this can be circumvented by Substitute.

**Water-types**: Although Mantine can take Water-type attacks from Urshifu-R and Barraskewda, it cannot meaningfully threaten Water-type Pokemon. Because of this, the opposing team can take advantage of Mantine by pivoting defensive Pokemon such as Toxapex and Slowking on Mantine to force it out, which allows the opponent to pivot the threatening Pokemon in again.

**Defensive Pokemon**: Mantine cannot threaten defensive Pokemon, as Scald deals negligible damage to Galarian Slowking, Aegislash, and Dragalge, while these Pokemon can cripple Mantine with poison or Toxic.

Due to its high Special Defense, Mantine becomes a good switchin to threats such as Choice Scarf Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele, and Blacephalon. Defog helps prolong the longevity and offensive presence of Flying teams by removing Stealth Rocks. Haze prevents Mantine from being setup fodder, and shuts down set up sweepers such as Volcarona, Cinderace, and Azumarill. Coupled with Roost, Mantine is capable of clearing hazards and stopping setup sweepers throughout the match due to its good bulk. Scald allows Mantine to threaten physical attackers with Burn to prevent Zeraora, Bisharp, and Scizor from directly coming in to take advantage of Mantine's passivity. 96 Speed EVs allow Mantine to outspeed Adamant Azumarill and Haze its Belly Drum boosts. The other EVs were placed in HP and Defense to help Mantine deal with physical setup sweepers such as Cinderace better. Heavy-Duty Boots prevents Mantine from getting chipped by hazards, allowing it to come in freely and Defog multiple times in a match. Water Absorb allows Mantine to help in the Water matchup, as it can indefinitely wall Barraskewda, Kingdra, and Urshifu-R lacking Thunder Punch.

Landorus-T greatly appreciates Mantine's ability to swap into Water- and Ice-types such as Urshifu-R and Weavile. In return, Landorus-T covers for Mantine's Electric-type weakness, can take on physical attackers such as Victini due to Intimidate, and can remove threats like Tapu Koko, Zeraora, and Heatran. Celesteela appreciates Mantine's ability to swap into Fire-types such as Blacephalon and Volcarona, so Celesteela repays this by covering for Mantine's weakness to Rock, and by checking Tyranitar, Alolan Ninetales, and Kyurem. Mantine, Landorus-T, and Celesteela form the defensive backbone of some Flying-type teams, which allows the other team mates to run more offensive sets to pressure the opposing team better. Galarian Moltres appreciates Mantine's ability to clear hazards and to check special set up sweepers, as it gives Galarian Moltres an easier time to set up aids in the Steel, Psychic, Poison, and Ghost matchup. Choice Scarf or Choice Specs Thundurus-T also appreciates Mantine's Defog, can remove hindrances such as Volcanion and Toxapex that can cripple Mantine, and can take Electric-type attacks from Choice Specs Jirachi and Arctozolt aimed at Mantine. Galarian Zapdos also appreciates Mantine's Defog capabilities, and in turn can remove threats like Kyurem, Bisharp, and Galarian Darmanitan, and walls such as Porygon2 and Chansey Blissey with a Choice Band or Choice Scarf set.

It also has access to Haze, which lets it shut down setup sweepers like Belly Drum Azumarill. [add something else like scizor]

Furthermore, Mantine is extremely good in the Water matchup due to its ability, Water Absorb, which lets it wall threats such as Barraskewda and Urshifu-R. [i honestly don't think its extremely good. you have to think of the big picture like toxapex/swampert and how passive mantine actually gets to Pokemon like pex/swampert/slowking which will pivot into mantine. Mantine's best move for water-types is scald on this set and the pokemon id label as "extremely good" in the water mu are moltres-g/thundy/etc. mantine also fears thunder punch from urshifu and urshifu tends to run coverage like that (similar to edge dracovish when it was a thing) to allow it to click surging more freely esp on more hyper offensive water teams. id rephrase and definitely not shortword it. Another Mantine-like mon is Cradily in the Water mu and it truly sucks but it just compresses a good absorbent.]

Haze prevents Mantine from being setup fodder, and shuts down set up sweepers such as Volcarona, Cinderace, and Azumarill. [maybe find something more effective. cinderace doesn't like scald burn when it trys to bu and you are lacking coverage if ur gunk+bu.

Scald allows Mantine to threaten physical attackers with Burn to prevent Zeraora, Bisharp, and Scizor from directly coming in to take advantage of Mantine's passivity. [mantine is barely effective in the electric mu and if they switch there zera into mantine that's extremely bad. think of more real situations and mus where mantine's scald is useful where its not dying turn 1 it enters (aka sack pmuch)]

Haze prevents Mantine from being setup fodder, and shuts down checks set up sweepers such as Volcarona, Corviknight, and Azumarill. Scald allows Mantine to threatens physical attackers with Burn to prevent Garchomp, Bisharp, and Scizor from directly coming in to take advantage of Mantine's passivity. Heavy-Duty Boots prevents Mantine from getting chipped by hazards. Water Absorb allows Mantine to help in the Water matchup, as it can come in on Barraskewda, Kingdra, and Urshifu-R lacking Thunder Punch.

Landorus-T greatly appreciates Mantine's ability to swap into Water-types such as Urshifu-R. **Taunt**:Taunt users such as Heatran, Mew, Tapu Fini, and Galarian Moltres can prevent Mantine from doing its role and can take advantage of it by trapping it, setting more hazards, or using it as setup bait.

**Setup Sweepers**: Although Mantine can deal with most set up sweepers, it notably cannot handle certain physical setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Bisharp and Dragon Dance Dragapult. Physical setup sweepers do not appreciate Scald's Burn chance, but this can be circumvented by Substitute.

**Water-types**: This should be a point on here as Mantine mainly pivots into more offensive water-types and the best move mantine has for them is scald. You already mentioned toxic and defensive pokemon: toxapex/swampert uses that vs mantine so its not necessary to repeat points but you can target something like teleport slowking+slowbro positioning CB urshifu/crawdaunt back in.

**Defensive Pokemon**: Mantine's best move is scald and it has issues with quite a few defensive pokemon like slowking-galar, substitute aegislash, dragalge.

[you mentioned its passiveness in the overview just focus on what the move does here] 96 Speed EVs allow Mantine to outspeed Adamant Azumarill and Haze its Belly Drum boosts.

In return, Landorus-T covers for Mantine's Electric-type weakness as it checks Tapu Koko and Zeraora, can take on and other threats physical attackers such as Victini and Zeraora and Jirachi. due to Intimidate, and can remove threats like Tapu Koko, Zeraora, and Jirachi. Thundurus-T and Choice Specs Zapdos appreciates Mantine's Defog, removes hindrances such as Volcanion and Toxapex that can cripple Mantine, and can take Electric-type attacks. [Zapdos takes on Electric-type attacks? idt it'll take choice specs koko or CB zeraora quite well. you need to say "as the former takes on"] Galarian Moltres aids in the Steel, Psychic, Poison, and Ghost matchup, and can set up on passive defensive Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Slowbro, which Mantine struggles with. Galarian Zapdos can remove threats like Kyurem, Bisharp, and Galarian Darmanitan, and walls such as Porygon2 and Blissey.

Toxic may be used over Haze on Mantine to reduce its passivity and allows it to deal with Volcanion and opposing Mantine. However, this prevents Mantine from checking setup sweepers like Volcarona and Cinderace. Defog can be dropped for Toxic, but this forces one of Mantine's team mates to run Defog. The other EVs can also be placed in Special Defense, along with a Calm nature to better handle special attackers but the reduced Defense prevents Mantine from safely checking Cinderace and Azumarill.

**Toxic**: Toxic hinders Mantine's ability to clear hazards and to reliably check setup sweepers and Water-types. Mantine has to be wary of swapping into Heatran, as it can Toxic Mantine, trap it with Magma Storm, and Taunt it to weaken Mantine or forcibly remove it from the match.

Mantine is a solid defogger Defogger for Flying-type teams due to its immunity to Water-type moves and access to Haze and Roost. Furthermore, Mantine's high special defense Special Defence allows it to pivot into threats like Blacephalon, Choice Scarf Tapu Fini, and Tapu Lele. Mantine notably is the only Water absorber Absorber on Flying as it checks offensive Water-types like Urshifu-R and Barraskewda. However, Mantine is extremely passive and is greatly threatened by offensive Pokemon such as Bisharp, Zapdos, and Kyurem. Mantine also faces competition with other defoggers Defoggers like Tornadus-T and Corviknight because of its lack of momentum.

**Defensive Pokemon**: Mantine cannot threaten defensive Pokemon, as Scald deals negligible damage to Slowking-Galar Galarian Slowking, Substitute Aegislash, and Dragalge, while these Pokemon can cripple Mantine with status.
