NOC Bigvivor Mafia Game Thread Day 5

The first thing that you’re doing is to assign behavior to alignment. Let’s say we have a person, where when he’s town he always does action X, and when he’s scum he always does action Y. You know this because of the many games in the past where this pattern has held. He now performs action X. For that reason, I would consider that person town.

And for what it's worth, this is why I don't like talking about in progress reads. Because suppose you have in your mind a set of actions X that a town-aligned player would take, and you see them not doing that. You call them out in thread, "Why aren't you doing X?"

Then, both a town-aligned player (who had some excuse for not doing X before or maybe they were going to do X anyway) AND the scum-aligned player would want to immediately do X. They both have motivation to do it. So now you've not only ruined your read on that player for this game, but you've ruined it for all future games you're playing with that person. X no longer splits alignment.

That's fair but it's not a playstyle that everybody can play all the time. The thread and thread convos don't really have any stakes and could pretty easily just outright die if people hold in reads until they are developed. I get that you aren't necessarily advocating for everybody to hold in reads, but there is probably a continuum between thread health and an individual's read accuracy, and holding in reads (ideally) increases individual read accuracy at the cost of thread health.

i think the playstyle where smogon used to be a circlejerk of ez town idenitfiers and towncoring helps w the mentality though, cuz if you had consistent meta on someone u could just repeat the same strategy and it (usually) worked or didn't work bc someone threw

i remem it being described like an arms race if you constantly see/play w the same people around yk

ok so from a quick skim there's votes on hydrogenhydreigon bc they shouldnt have known what was up about encryption and knew where to look it up, implying someone told them about it and its sorta close to hammer

makes sense to me

do you have some sort of explanation beyond that
I mean dave also mentioned he goes down rabbit holes a lot, I was doing the same (probably I actually have no memory of what i was doing)
Also if, say, a scum teammate actually sent that to me why would they do that
Also you wouldn't vote out a newbie on their first game R1 would you :(

These arguments are probably weak as heck lol

for anyone who wants to turn off show activity:

would love to hammer before tommy wakes up so that the game can proceed at a brisk pace. It's 24 players. Suppose 10 day/night cycles...that's a month and quite a long time for anyone to pay attention. Town apathy sets in much quicker and is much more dangerous than scum apathy.
