Volcarona @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 248 HP / 156 Def / 16 SpA / 88 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Roost
- Flamethrower
- Safeguard

Volcarona counters non-Rock move Buzzwole really well, as bulky variants don't take much damage, punishes it with Flame Body, and Roost off the damage. Safeguard also blocks Toxic from its other variants.

16 SpA Volcarona Flamethrower vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 422-500 (107.3 - 127.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

168+ Atk Buzzwole Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 156 Def Volcarona: 137-162 (36.7 - 43.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Reserving Tapu Lele

:ss/tapu-lele:
Tapu Lele @ Choice Specs
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Psychic

Tapu Lele checks Buzzwole. It KOs Buzzwole with moonblast or psychic, while buzzwole 2HKOs with Earthquake. While can switch in to this Buzzwole, it doesn't like taking toxic from other variants, and it takes over half from an earthquake.

252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Psychic vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole in Psychic Terrain: 950-1122 (241.7 - 285.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 774-912 (196.9 - 232%) -- guaranteed OHKO
168+ Atk Buzzwole Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Lele: 151-178 (53.7 - 63.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

fat boy (Pelipper) (M) @ Damp Rock / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane / Defog
- U-Turn
- Roost
- Scald / Defog

Pelipper is a Counter to this Buzzwole set (buzz lacking rock moves). It takes pitiful damage from Ice Punch and Close Combat, and can OHKO with Hurricane, U-Turn for momentum, Defog to remove hazard pressure on its teammates, or Scald for damage and burn chances on whatever comes in. Scald also 2HKOs buzz, if running defog over hurricane.

This Pelipper set is a Counter because it can come in on any Buzzwole attack and roost off the damage, and also be healthy for the next time it has to come into Buzz.

168+ Atk Buzzwole Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pelipper: 77-91 (23.8 - 28.1%) -- 94.1% chance to 4HKO
168+ Atk Buzzwole Ice Punch vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pelipper: 65-77 (20.1 - 23.8%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
4 SpA Pelipper Hurricane vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 756-892 (192.3 - 226.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
4 SpA Pelipper Scald vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole in Rain: 207-244 (52.6 - 62%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Reserving Zapdos-G

:Zapdos-Galar:
Zapdos-Galar @ Choice Band
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Close Combat
- Thunderous Kick / Stomping Tantrum
- U-turn

Buzzwole gets nuked by almost every flying type in the game, Zapdos-G easily Checks it offensively because of that despite being hurt heavily by Rocky Helmet and Brave Bird Recoil damage. Buzzwole can’t hurt it with Earthquake and it can switch into Close Combat comfortably. Only thing Zapdos-G needs to worry about is switching in on Ice Punch as that almost knocks it out.

252 Atk Choice Band Zapdos-Galar Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 144+ Def Buzzwole: 700-828 (167.4 - 198%) -- guaranteed OHKO
168+ Atk Buzzwole Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zapdos-Galar: 196-232 (61 - 72.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

168+ Atk Buzzwole Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zapdos-Galar: 117-138 (36.4 - 42.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Because of all this, Zapdos-Galar is an offensive Check to Tank Buzzwole.

Zapdos go brrrrr

counter btw

zap oneshots and takes like no damage and just roosts if it needs to
also utility in defog and momentum in uturn
ALSO beats like every possible buzzwole set
:zapdos: Zapdos attacking:
0 SpA Zapdos Hurricane vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 952-1128 (242.2 - 287%) -- guaranteed OHKO

what is the set?

Welp, everyone else already took the well known stuff.

Weezing-Galar
:ss/weezing-galar:

Weezing-Gala
r @ Black Sludge :Black Sludge:
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Strange Steam
- Will-O-Wisp / Toxic
- Pain Split
- Taunt / Corrosive Gas

This thing is the definition of overkill, and a counter to Buzzwole. Weezing-Galar constantly sits on Buzzwole in almost any situation, and if that wasn't enough, its pick of coverage can seriously annoy anything attempting to come in. I rarely select anything outside of the viability list, but this is one of those more notorious non-listed Pokemon which I think is an exception.

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald / Will-O-Wisp / Toxic
- Hex
- Recover
- Strength Sap

Buzz can't really do much to Cursed Body Jelli, while Jelli threatens a burn and can make buzz weaker via Strength Sap, + if it gets a burn that makes room for damage with a STAB Hex.

:sm/buzzwole:

imagine countering ur own kind ,
Buzzwole sits on itself most of the time if the other one dosent have toxic/dual wing beat (lol).
On the other hand u can run toxic to beat the 3 attacks Roost buzzwole set.

Tapu Fini @ Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 140 Def / 20 SpD / 96 Spe
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Taunt
- Scald
- Draining Kiss
can switch into eq well

168+ Atk Buzzwole Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 140+ Def Tapu Fini: 85-101 (24.7 - 29.3%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Tapu Fini Draining Kiss vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 170-204 (43.2 - 51.9%) -- 7.4% chance to 2HKO

yeah but ice punch > switch just kills you and now you have no counter or defog blocker

This thing learns Taunt? Jesus this thing is already annoying to deal with, never knew it could do that too.

Moltres is a counter to 3 attacks Buzzwole. There are two sets I specifically want to bring attention to.

Full Physically Defensive:
Moltres @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 248 HP / 248 Def / 16 SpAtk
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Flamethrower
- Hurricane
- Substitute

Able to come in on both CC and Ice Punch at virtually any point in the game, Moltres offers an opportunity to cripple Buzzwole permanently via flame body.

168+ Atk Buzzwole Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 248+ Def Moltres: 83-98 (21.6 - 25.5%) -- 0.7% chance to 4HKO
168+ Atk Buzzwole Ice Punch vs. 248 HP / 248+ Def Moltres: 69-82 (18 - 21.4%) -- possible 5HKO

While not listed on the set, some Buzzwole tech Thunder Punch over Ice Punch for those pesky waters. Full physically defensive Moltres doesn’t fear that either:

168+ Atk Buzzwole Thunder Punch vs. 248 HP / 248+ Def Moltres: 138-164 (36 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Moltres can also choose to roost in the face of Buzzwole, or immediately threatens Buzzwole out with either of its stabs:

16 SpA Moltres Flamethrower vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 396-468 (100.7 - 119%) -- guaranteed OHKO
16 SpA Moltres Hurricane vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 964-1140 (245.2 - 290%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The second set I want to bring attention to is a faster, more offensive Moltres:

Moltres @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 248 HP / 44 SpA / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Flamethrower
- Hurricane
- Scorching Sands

While this Moltres does fear Thunder Punch, it still stands impervious to both Ice Punch and Close Combat.

168+ Atk Buzzwole Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Moltres: 117-138 (30.5 - 36%) -- 44.8% chance to 3HKO
168+ Atk Buzzwole Ice Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Moltres: 98-116 (25.5 - 30.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
168+ Atk Buzzwole Thunder Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Moltres: 196-232 (51.1 - 60.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

And of course, it offers a return OHKO:

44 SpA Moltres Flamethrower vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 408-480 (103.8 - 122.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
44 SpA Moltres Hurricane vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 988-1168 (251.3 - 297.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The only thing Moltres does have to fear from a Buzzwole is Stone Edge – however, three attack Buzzwole fears to make that tech over Ice Punch as it means missing out on either Toxapex, Grounds, or bulky Waters. Therefore, Moltres is a counter to Buzzwole

Blacephalon is a check to three attacks Buzzwole. While it is able to switch in on both CC and Ice Punch, it gets completely obliterated by EQ and takes a nasty chunk from the rare Thunder Punch tech I mentioned earlier. Thankfully, the popular Scarf set blows past Buzzwole as a revenge killer and offers to collect either a kill or chip on a switch in.
Blacephalon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Overheat / Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Trick
168+ Atk Buzzwole Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Blacephalon: 74-87 (29.9 - 35.2%) -- 24.3% chance to 3HKO
168+ Atk Buzzwole Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Blacephalon: 396-466 (160.3 - 188.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
168+ Atk Buzzwole Thunder Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Blacephalon: 148-175 (59.9 - 70.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

As previously mentioned, while it can take an Ice Punch, it really doesn’t want to come in on TPunch or EQ, especially if rocks are up in the formers case.

252 SpA Blacephalon Flamethrower vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 546-644 (138.9 - 163.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Therefore, I’ll offer Scarf Blacephalon as a check to Buzzwole.
