Galarian Stunfisk finds a niche over other Ground and Steel-types thanks to its incredible typing, good defensive stats, and solid utility movepool. Its typing, in tandem with good defensive stats, makes it a strong check to special attackers such as Rotom-C, Diancie, Sylveon, and most Heliolisk variants. Its good movepool lets it pressure common forms of hazard prevention like Xatu, Tsareena, and Dhelmise. However, Galarian Stunfisk’s lack of reliable recovery makes it easy to overwhelm with chip damage from hazards.

Sludge Bomb allows Galarian Stunfisk to pressure common forms of hazard removal, namely Rotom-C, Tsareena, and Dhelmise. Alternatively, Yawn can force switches and pressure switch-ins like Mudsdale and Silvally-Ground. Stone Edge allows Galarian Stunfisk to have a good matchup against Xatu. Protect allows Galarian Stunfisk to gain more recovery from Leftovers and allows it to scout Choice item users like Indeedee-F, Exploud, and Guzzlord.
Galarian Stunfisk fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that appreciate its ability to compress multiple different roles into one slot. Wish support from the likes of Sylveon and Vaporeon is greatly appreciated to make up for Galarian Stunfisk's lack of reliable recovery. The former is able to answer threats like
