Hello Smogoff, earl here to reignite (?) The Well after a few months of hiatus. Some background on me: I'm a 21 yr old college student currently studying linguistics (I prefer social linguistics, stuff like syntax can fuck off) and I am slated to go abroad to Japan next semester. I go to college in St Paul, Minnesota but I'm currently home for the summer in Wisconsin. I'd like to teach English abroad for a few years once I graduate and then figure it out from there, but outside of that I don't have any huge aspirations for the future. I'm not a very motivated person!

As for the smogon side of things, I joined this site when I was 15 or so specifically to post about eviolite Eelektrik in the XYNU. Then when I was 16, with the release of gen 7, I tried to get into c&c but I really stuck around for firebot, pet mods, and circus. For a couple years I had the Mafia Champion banner! And my username was leonard (from big bang theory)! That was my peak! Nowadays I'm just a 3500 posts ladybug (I should really have community contrib but w/e) guy who occasionally posts in smogoff and pet mods. Can't say my passion for the game is nearly as high as it was when I was in high school but I don't plan on leaving anytime soon. Gen 9 is coming!

Some non-smogon interests: I've been reading a fuckton of manga over the past year and I've gotten into playing magic the gathering with some of my irl friends. Can't believe they convinced me to get into such an expensive hobby. I should spend more of my free time studying but instead I mostly doom-scroll. I've gotten really into drinking IPAs recently.

Not sure why I was nominated or won, never considered myself a particularly notable user on this site but I'm flattered regardless. Unrelated- I almost got struck by lightning a few weeks back

Back when I was like 8 my older sister named a toy of mine "earl the poliwhirl". I liked the name enough to use it for some early online profiles and it's just stuck as my online name. for the record, my actual name is not earl

1. it's the more social aspect of linguistics. How language affects and is affected by society. Stuff like how using aave negatively impacts your chance of getting hired or language appropriation/adoption.
2. I wish my regice/goltres fusion won in feru. made the sprite and everything, I just love statsticks
3. I love using SubCM blacephalon, but my favorite unset of all time has to be the rollout cherrim heat by Spook
4. Highest scoring run was a dead branch+2x storm of steel A20 silent run I had. Dumbest run I had was a 2 card deck (flash of steel and shrug it off) which went infinite with sundial, took literally 10 minutes to kill the heart with that shit

eat, mostly. I find Basque to be super interesting as an isolate language in western europe. pretty cool that it has 0 relation to anything germanic or latin iirc

1. Not a huge animal person actually. They don't seem to care for me much either, I'm fine with just plants.

2. I really, really enjoyed the full chaos mafia game where everyone subbed a role for the game. Some truly insane shit came out of the game, I learned how to play shogi because of it

4. Yeah I'm currently in a long-term d&d 5e game that's on hiatus and I played a bunch of 5e and pf1 in high school. My favorite memory is probably from the pf1 campaign I was in where my party killed a vampire lord and then "inherited" his manor, blew it up, and then tried to commit insurance fraud on the now-exploded property. The DM informed us that property insurance did not exist yet, so we instead attempted to invent property insurance to, uh, defraud ourselves

It sounds like a similarly interesting experience as when I woke up and my arm was entirely limp and asleep. Has any part of your body become asleep enough for it to not be operable by the muscles within? Or, as the kids may say it, "ragdolled"?

Why does the degree interest you (what’s kept you in that degree instead of changing or dropping out and becoming a forager/gatherer like me?)

How did you hear of Super Auto Pets and if you were in SAP what would your effect be? You’re a pet-modser so I’m expecting something creative here.
