watched this live in mfcord with the lads. i was pleasantly surprised that it was good. naturally, it stopped being good when mario actually appeared (for as little as he was actually in it - do they have so little confidence in their leading man that they feel the need to minimise him like this?)

anyway post your thoughts et cetera

They really hired the Club Penguin Designers for this one huh

I honestly, no joke, wish they chose Marc Graue for the mario voice

I haven't heard his voice in this movie but i've heard Pratt's voice in Lego Movie and it doesn't sound like a mario voice

Does he sound different in the trailer i'm yet to watch it

Too many Toad haters here. Hope he has a lead role in the movie along with Mario.

I like that Kamek is Bowser's right hand man (or Koopa). Wasn't sure if they'd go w/ this approach since his appearance has been inconsistent throughout the games, but I'm glad he's in the movie. Hopefully he references the events of Yoshi's Island.

Cool to see Bowser take over Penguin Kingdom. I am also pretty sure that those Penguins are from Mario 64, which is a great touch (especially since we haven't seen those guys in a while). It also seems like Bowser is collecting Power Stars like in Mario 64 and Galaxy, which is pretty neat since I thought they would mainly stick to the earliest Mario games and titles as reference material.

Chris Pratt at Mario is a bit whatever. He feels a lot more like the Mario from the Super Mario Bros Super Show rather than the one from the games. I like Mario more as a silent protagonist who occasionally spouts some gibberish though, so his appearance in this movie was always going to be jarring to me, regardless of who did the voice acting.

Overall, pretty impressed with this trailer. I thought Illumination would play it extremely safe and just reference the basic Mario stuff, but they seem to be incorporating a lot of elements from Mario's history, which is wonderful.
