A great addition to Normal-type teams, Staraptor checks threats such as Choice Band Breloom, Great Tusk, Quaquaval, and non-Choice Scarf Iron Valiant, and provides muscle power against Steel- and Dragon-type teams. Brave Bird makes short work of the aforementioned Fighting-types, as well as bulky Grass-types like Wo-Chien and Amoonguss, and threatens specially defensive Toxapex and Skeledirge with a 2HKO if they switch into it. Close Combat is what gives Staraptor its amazing wallbreaking potential, OHKOing Kingambit, Chien-Pao, Greninja, and Cyclizar, while KOing Baxcalibur after Stealth Rock damage and threatening Iron Treads with a 2HKO. Final Gambit, boosted by 28 HP EVs, OHKOes targets Staraptor wouldn't otherwise beat, such as Rotom-W, physically defensive Toxapex, Hatterene, Klefki, and Forretress after Stealth Rock damage—denying dual screens and/or entry hazards from the last two. Alternatively, Double-Edge threatens checks like Rotom-W and Kilowattrel. Finally, U-turn allows this reckless bird to pivot into a teammate, if there really is nothing else it can do, such as against Gholdengo or Corviknight. Equipping a Choice Scarf will let it outspeed Greninja, Flutter Mane, and Walking Wake, which otherwise force it out, and threaten them instead.

A great partner for Staraptor is Hisuian Zoroark. When it uses Illusion to disguise as Staraptor, pairing its Fighting immunity with Staraptor's Ground immunity, an apparent "Staraptor" could be immune to either type. This uncertainty completely dismantles Great Tusk. Furthermore, disguised as Staraptor, it can bait in an unsuspecting Corviknight, Gholdengo, or Dondozo to cripple or OHKO it. Maushold is another great partner thanks to Tidy Up, which uniquely keeps both Stealth Rock and Reflect off the field for Staraptor to not worry about. Also, its Population Bomb can break through Ting-Lu and non-Rocky Helmet Toxapex for Staraptor. A less prominent partner that also provides hazard removal, as well as Knock Off support, is Cyclizar. With Stealth Rock breaking Sturdy and further advancing Staraptor's wallbreaking, Blissey is another highly appreciated teammate to set it up, provide Healing Wish and Heal Bell support, as well as check both Sandy Shocks and Choice Scarf Greninja for Staraptor. Indeedee, likewise, offers Healing Wish support, as well as checking Poison-types like Toxapex and Glimmora that Staraptor struggles with.   • Choice Band Breloom is a pointless expounding, as Focus Sash is still checked via U-turn if not as a whole.
  • Dragon-type teams is more appropriate.
  • If Sableye opts for Will-O-Wisp, it's still liable to be 2HKO'd, which is what we went over with Ashbala. The more appropriate play here is to Recover and win via recoil. I can remove Sableye, but not for the listed reason and I will add Heal Bell support in the lower paragraph so that this isn't brought up anymore.
  • I've added the Double-Edge part, but reworded it slightly.

  • Toxapex using Rocky Helmet is another pointless expounding as Maushold could also use Protective Pads. I can mention this bit, if you're inclined; or if QC is adamant about Rocky Helmet, I'll add it in anyway.
  • Forretress typically carries Rocky Helmet or Leftovers, not HDB, so my point stays.
  • Regarding Blissey, I've already explained in the first sentence that Staraptor checks Fighting-type threats for the whole team, so I don't see why it should be repeated here, unless you've got something specific you'd like me to mention.

While it still checks Focus Sash Breloom, you're letting Breloom setup and potentially OHKO Staraptor if it's weakened anyways.

Sash Breloom isnt a threat as scarf can u turn and bring the illusioned h zoro to confuse the breloom. So it isnt necessary to point that here

  • While I wholeheartedly disagree, after careful deliberation, I've come to the conclusion that it may not be such an obvious check - thus I will implement the suggested change.
  • The "-type" suffix stems from 'archetype' which denotes a set of objects, not an individual one. This applies to moves, Gym Leaders and, of course, Pokémon themselves.
  • The burn is irrelevant, as explained, and I've added Heal Bell to the sentence mentioning Blissey. I will remove it simply due to Recover enabling recoil damage stall.
  • Suggest to me a different name, that is not Staraptor, if you wish.
  • Wide Lens is placebo, it makes no difference, whereas Protective Pads prevent both contact damage and Flame Body from activating; both of which severely impede Maushold. I'll put in Rocky Helmet this time, per request of Neko, but keep this in mind if you opt to write for Maushold in the future.

  • It's either. The full nomenclature is written as "Dragon-type Pokémon team(s)", however, this being a Pokémon game, a priori all teams are Pokémon teams, and that bit is omitted as it is tautological - leaving us with "Dragon-type teams".
    As per section 1.3:
    In Monotype analyses, it is acceptable to use the name of a type to refer to teams centered around said type, similarly to archetypes from standard tiers; e.g., "Psychic" is accepted to refer to Psychic-type teams in a general sense, and "Water teams" is accepted as meaning "Water-type teams"

    i.e "Dragon teams" is an adequate substitute for the otherwise original "Dragon-type teams", but does not overrule the original.
  • Regarding "this Reckless bird", whether you view the particular ability or any ability as a noun or adjective is irrelevant, as I am using the whole phrase as a pronoun. Now, if you find the wordplay to be inadequate, please suggest another that retains variety, as I've mentioned Staraptor's name enough times already.

Equipping a Choice Scarf will let it outspeed Greninja, Flutter Mane, and Walking Wake, which otherwise threaten force it out, and threaten them back instead.

A great partner for Staraptor is Hisuian Zoroark, combining its ability Illusion and immunity to Fighting-type attacks with Staraptor's immunity to Ground-type attacks to completely dismantle Great Tusk, while baiting Zoroark. When it uses Illusion to disguise as Staraptor, since it's immune to Fighting and Staraptor is immune to Ground, an apparent "Staraptor" could be immune to either type. This uncertainty completely dismantles Great Tusk. Further, when it's disguised as Staraptor, it can bait (the part about Great Tusk was a bit vague. if i misunderstood something in my change, feel free to change whatever's needed) in an unsuspecting Corviknight, Gholdengo, (AC) or Dondozo to dent or OHKO it. (I imagine? changeable if doing so is appropriate) Maushold is another great partner, thanks to its signature move Tidy Up, Tidy Up keeping Stealth Rock and screens Reflect off the field for Staraptor not to worry about; with its other signature move Population Bomb being able to about them. Also, its Population Bomb can break through Ting-Lu and non-Rocky Helmet Toxapex for Staraptor. A less prominent partner which that also provides hazard removal, (AC) as well as Knock Off support, (AC) is Cyclizar. Brave Bird makes short work of the aforementioned Fighting-types, as well as bulky Grass-types like Wo-Chien and Amoonguss, and threatens specially defensive Toxapex and Skeledirge with a 2HKO if they switch into it. Close Combat is what gives Staraptor its amazing wallbreaking potential, OHKOing Kingambit, Chien-Pao, Greninja, and Cyclizar (remove comma) while KOing Baxcalibur after Stealth Rock damage and threatening Iron Treads with a 2HKO. Final Gambit, boosted by 28 HP EVs, OHKOes targets Staraptor wouldn't otherwise beat, such as Rotom-W, physically defensive Toxapex, Hatterene, Klefki, and Forretress after Stealth Rock damage—denying dual screens and/or entry hazards from the last two. Alternatively, Double-Edge threatens checks like Rotom-W and Kilowattrel.
