What sort of perceived benefit does this give town
im pretty sure it's supposed entirely in self-preservation
cos of lead wagon for days and all that

the benefit is the vote goes off town and onto a slot that could potentially flip mafia, and the double voter would be someone who potentially has a correct worldview rather than someone who tunneled town all day and gave wolves a free ml, or is just wolf mling me

That's fine for Aura Guardian but I would throw me in there as well since then I can double someone up as well.

You're opening up worlds in which mafia just put 2 on a counterwagon and then boom you give them mayor. You are way more likely to get the mayor on a random town now than later. There's a very strong incentive for town to vote you as long as you don't use your ability.
I do not believe you are “misusing” your role, so do whatever you want. I am waiting ‘til you use your role to get more information about your opinions on others, since it’s a glorified read list

doesnt only 1 vig shot reduce the game so we just lose a day tho and then we have to play the mylo game
i dont really see why i would do it now, i know theres no benefit to town and i dont really feel motivated to make you feel comfortable when i think youve not done much reads all game and im struggling to place a read on you, its safer for me to wait so i will do the no drawback safe play
i also am very aware of how people are playing the game and its not like im gonna randomise who i give it to
theres no reason for town to vote me for my ability, if a town player thinks there is, thats on them, but i am very aware that such a thought makes no sense and even though some are using it as an excuse, probably because psy popularised it, doesnt mean im gonna try negotiate the terrorists who are hiding behind an nai factor instead of making a real read on play

but theres a lot of disruptives so chance of block, and it allows us to build off alignments and potential spew a day earlier (though youre right admittedly this isnt so great)
but there is like a lot of ways to stop mafia kills in the game so very possible we gain an extra kill
