Laurel had an IMO compelling theory that in his opinion all 3 mafia in my opinion 2-3 mafia charged me with the intent of killing me and deleting those charges from the town

Charging each other is a bad option because yeah it gets found by massclaim

lets say you think as maf town X will get 1 vote minimum. you have a mafia Y, who wants cop, and for whatever reason you think X is gonna pick cop. then you would charge up X so that Y gets the role instead of X (you probably have one player charge up Y and the rest charge up X)

no, but this is just an example of a situation that could come up. more generally, if you dont want someone to get a power role i think its reasonable to try to power them up
 
remember if they invest everything into their own player its quite possilbe that player doesnt even get a power role bc some random town undercut them

Literally everyone in the game thought whoever got the most votes got the role though tbf and we need to bear that in mind
 
risk: you give a townie 3+ shots on the role they pick and you don't get any control over what roles your fellow mafia gets
reward: you have like 1 in 10 chance of them not getting a role at all

how would a mafia ever decide to do this

Open setups make claiming 3x less believable, especially with the kill flavor that was assigned to me

And hell, i lived pmuch the whole game and got cleared off it so :P

i feel like youre underestimating the chance of them not getting a role at all, but not sure yeah

celever's point is very good tho and i think is a really really good reason why this is unlikely
